The property

7 Carnish has a location which is just stunning. Regardless of weather, time or tides, the view from the house and deck is just breathtakingly beautiful. Overlooking the vast white sands of Uig Bay and the turquoise sea, all over arched by big skies, is positively mesmerising. Open the garden gate and walk down to the beach from where, at high tide, you can launch a kayak or enjoy some wild swimming in the pristine waters. It truly is fabulous and will be equally impressive whatever the weather. In the long, light summer days it can all be enjoyed from the deck and in the winter time, cosy in the house, enjoy the vastness of ocean and sky from the windows overlooking the massive view. If the tide is right you can walk across the sands to Uig Sands Restaurant! Newly re-built, refurbished and completed in June 2018, the house has been thoughtfully created with comfort and ease of use in mind. The particularly well equipped kitchen will be a pleasure to prepare food in and the cosy woodburning stove will add a certain 'Hygge' to the whole experience. The light and airy open plan kitchen and dining area, with picture window, faces the Uig Hills and the deck has panoramic views of Uig Sands where the famous Lewis Chessmen were found. Direct access onto the beach, across the shallow Red River, is just a stone's throw away. Please note that when the tide is in you have perfect access to kayak and paddle board from the waters-edge. The bay is ideal for kayaking and swimming as it is shallow and sheltered. The white shell sand underlying the shallow sea, at times. gives rise to the most amazing turquoise water, so evocative of the Outer Hebrides. The whole Uig and Valtos area is fascinating culturally, historically, archaeologically and geographically. There is plenty to explore and do for all ages but we think that you might just find yourself unable to stray far from this ideally located beachside cottage. The islands can be reached by flights from Edinburgh, Glasgow or Inverness; or by ferry from Uig on Skye to Tarbert, or Ullapool to Stornoway.

EPC Rating: Band D

About the location

UIG ISLE OF LEWIS

Great Bernera 23.2. miles; Stornoway 35.9 miles; Callanish 20.5 miles.

Uig is a village resting on the edge of Uig Bay on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis and takes its name from the Norse word for ‘bay’. It is known for its rugged landscapes and attractive sand dunes with stunning views over the Atlantic. Attractions include the beautiful beaches of Valtos Peninsula and Mealista Beach plus refreshing walks along Berie and Ardroil sands, which are both rich in history (ancient hut circles have been discovered here by archaeologists and the famous Lewis Chessmen were found here) and more modern activities such as kiteboarding and windsurfing. Dining options include the impressive Uig Sands restaurant (in season) or head to the Uig Community Cafe which serves a great selection of food. There is also a distillery here at Abhainn Dearg. You can stock up on essentials at the Uig Community Shop. Just outside of the village is nearby Miavaig Pier where visitors can take boat trips to outlying islands.

Note: Though electricity is included, charging for electric cars is not included in the rental. Note: Uig Sands Restaurant is seasonal so check it’s open before going. Note: Please bear in mind that this property is located on an island and therefore only accessible by plane or ferry
