More information about Poyntzfield House

Property information

This Grade A listed Georgian mansion is the perfect self-catering holiday home for families who want to relax. With seven bath/shower rooms, the house is ideal for a shared, economical holiday. With an outdoor heated swimming pool, and a full size antique snooker table in the games room, all that's needed is you!

Situated just a 30-minute drive from Inverness, on the rich farmland of the Black Isle, Poyntzfield is a particularly good self-catering house, large enough for groups and families with lots of children, who are made most welcome. A great atmosphere reigns here: pets are welcome by arrangement, and roaring log fires welcome you home after a day on the beach or the hills.

The outdoor sports resort of Aviemore is just over an hour's drive away, as is Ullapool and the west coast.

The Black Isle greatly rewards exploration and offers pony trekking, sea angling, bike hire, golf, and dolphin watching cruises. In fact, the dolphins can be seen from the shore in Fortrose most days as they follow the shoals of fish up the firth on the incoming tide. At Rosemarkie you will find a sandy beach, children's playpark, beach cafe and a bistro cafe.

Cycling has become particularly popular on the Black Isle, as the roads are quiet for those who like to travel far and wide on road bikes, and the whole peninsula is criss-crossed by tracks and trails for mountain bikes. There is a new cross-country/downhill track was developed on the south side at Red Rock Learnie and this presents some challenging routes.

Eathie beach along the coast is also quite famous for its fossils, examples of which can be seen in the Hugh Miller Museum in Cromarty.

Summer visitors will appreciate the very low midge population!

The accommodation comprises the main part of the house and the west wing which are connected on the ground floor, but the higher floors are accessed by separate staircases.

The caretaker and family lives in the east wing (no interior connection).

Stayed at poyntzfield house with our family (4 generations ages 5-84 ) for my husband's 65th birthday. We had a fabulous time and weather was warm and sunny so pool was well used plenty of barbecues. Garden, swings and trampoline was good for the kids. We all had a great time would recommend this house as it had everything you could ask for. Nearby great beaches, cycle routes, dolphin watching.

Poyntzfield House is amazing. We got married in the Library Room which was lovely, had a little disco in the tv room but the main party was around the wooden kitchen table. Kitchen is very well equipped, although we couldnt find a grater. :) The house was very clean and the beds comfy. Pool was tad cool but then it was March and we still had fun. We had 16 people in total and 2 dogs, there was plenty of room for everyone to relax, enjoy the snooker table or quiet time in the library room. No ghostly sightings but we did eventually find the secret! Would highly recommend Poyntzfield House for any family gathering as there is something for everyone of all ages.

Poyntzfield House is just the best family house you could go to. It is so child friendly and relaxed that parents actually get a holiday as well. So much space, so many bathrooms and a great kitchen. Not over precious but impressive and with a garden enclosed to keep children and dogs in. However, the pool is just amazing - the perfect play pool for children from 2 to 81 in our case!!! Cannot recommend it highly enough and have booked again for next year.

Stayed at Poyntzfield House in July 2013 and had one of the best family holidays! The house was amazing, and catered for all our needs, our party had a range of ages from 1 to 53, the gardens were a lovely setting for our family 'sports day' cricket games and a few Hurst badminton battles! The games room was n instant hit with the men in the party and the library was great for our pub quiz nights, couldn't fault anything. Local beaches were lovely especially the ferry across to Nigg, Would definitely recommend.

We have just returned from a holiday at Poyntzfield House, and all 17 of us would definitely go there again. We have holidayed in scotland for the past 20 years and Poyntzfield has to be the most comfortable and well equiped house we have stayed in. Definitely a winner with adults and children alike.

Just come home from Poyntzfield ,had the best time. Lots of laughs and the kids thought it wes great too. The kids loved the garden which meant the grown ups got some time to themselves.
