More information about Aodann

Property information

Aodann is all about amazing views, comfort and design. The architect-designed house was built to sit into the hillside while making the most of the stunning views of Loch Ewe, all the way from the open sea to the pretty Highland village of Poolewe and to the mountains beyond.

The owner wanted it to sit into the hillside to minimise the visual impact on this beautiful area and also be as low energy as possible with lots of insulation, high quality double glazing on windows that are positioned for maximum solar gain. They furnished the house with some of their favourite design pieces and original art and hope that you will love it as much as they do. A big part of the build is Caithness stone inside and out. They have also chosen lovely fabrics by Scottish company, Anta, for many of the rooms.

Aodann is just a short distance from Poolewe which has a shop, pub and café. Just beyond the village you will find the National Trust for Scotland property Inverewe House and Gardens which is a wonderful day out and has a choice of cafes. Gairloch with its range of shops, cafes and pubs is a short drive (or cycle!) away.

The area is great for wildlife spotting, so what can you hope to see? Well there are deer aplenty as you drive over from Inverness, oyster catchers on Loch Ewe and some impressive diving birds such as gannets. Golden eagles, Sea eagle and otters are also spotted not too infrequently and the otters can sometimes be seen on the shore below the house.

Distances

Poolewe: three miles, Gairloch: five miles, Aultbea: four miles.

We are a scenic two hour drive from Inverness airport where there are flights to many UK and some overseas destinations. We have avoided a garden as such because we want the house to disappear into the landscape as much as possible, so we have left much of the land around the house to do its own thing. The land slopes steeply away from the house, so just be aware of that if you are coming with small children. The garden area is completely fenced and there are plenty of places for sitting out and enjoying the stunning views across Loch Ewe and to the mountains beyond.

For those with restricted mobility. The nice thing about Aodann is that if you love Scotland and the mountains but aren't mobile enough to get out into the wilderness, the views from the house are so amazing you can sit and take it all in from the comfort of the house.

Wide, level path from parking area to entrance Stone floors through most of the downstairs mean there are very few thresholds Downstairs double bedroom has an ensuite wet room with a floor of lovely Caithness stone and no steps into the shower Open plan living area with plenty of space to move about easily Wide doorways
