More information about The Shore

Property information

The Shore, beautifully located on the edge of the Moray Firth in the historic town of Fortrose, is a 200 year old extended cottage which has been totally renovated in 2017 to offer a luxury self catering holiday home for 6. The views are peaceful and panoramic, with the chance to spot the Moray Firth dolphins heading up the Firth in search of a tasty meal of salmon. Our visitors need not put so much effort into enjoying a salmon dish as there are 2 excellent restaurants in walking distance and another a short drive, or a longer beach walk, to The Crofters in Rosemarkie. The house is beautifully decorated in calming neutral shades and the use of contemporary artifacts and a minimalist style will appeal to those seeking tranquility and an uncluttered life. The dining kitchen is spacious and well equipped and there is the convenience of a ground floor double bedroom and bathroom for those less able to climb the stairs. The focus of the house though is absolutely towards the sea - which dominates the light effect in the house both on the ground floor and in all the bedrooms. Fortrose is the main town on the Black Isle and has a good local butcher, a Co-op, 2 bakeries, 2 cafe's, a post office and several attractive shops such as a jewellery shop and an antique shop. A huge, 6 mile long sandy beach is a short drive away (5 minutes) and a great links golf course is as close with its bar and restaurant open to visitors. Of course the highlight of Fortrose is Chanonry Point, one of the only places in Europe, where dolphins can be observed at close quarters from the shore. Sometimes they come so close you feel you could almost touch them. Head down there about 1-2 hours after the lowest tide and you stand a good chance of a sighting.

Just spent a magical week in this lovely cottage in the lovely harbour setting in October with three adults and two children. Spacious well designed cottage with all mod cons , including off road parking .Excellent location as short walk to centre of Fortrose .Also went into Inverness one day by bus , regular service top of the street. Ate out at stunningly located golf club , friendly Fortrose cafe and new Iv 10 restaurant . Also fish and chip takeaway ,yummy ! Weather was mixed but so much to look at through the sea facing large windows, kids even went paddling one day the the next day we watched the storm blow over the sea wall. Enjoyed by all. Thank you Dave and Kath .

We spent a thoroughly pleasant and very comfortable week at The Shore in early June. The house is very well equipped, on our arrival we were greeted with scones and a fridge stocked with the essentials - a lovely touch. We all found it relaxing stay and spacious for a week's holiday. The house is in a great spot looking out on to the Moray Firth and we enjoyed watching the comings and goings in the bay of the boats, birds, seals and even two young deer! It's a short walk up to a good range of facilities up on high street in Fortrose (including a butchers, two bakeries and a well stocked Co-op) and we enjoyed a couple of late lunches at the Fortrose Cafe. We spent most of our time locally and we found it an easy journey from The Shore to Chanonry Point to see the dolphins, Rosemarkie beach and Cromarty.

My family and I spent a week in May in this beautifully refurbished house with stunning views from all bedrooms and the sitting-room. The house itself is very comfortable. Top quality soft furnishings with a fabulous kitchen dinner. Little touches of fresh flowers, welcome basket and homemade scones where much appreciated. Top visits where eco ventures at Cromarty, viewing dolphins and seabirds. Good local walks. The cheese pantry is amazing for all cheese lovers. A little further a field The Mountain Cafe in Aviemore. Cake heaven.
