More information about Star na Mara

Property information

Arisaig is one of the most desirable villages on the west coast of Scotland and was made famous in the film 'Local Hero' (an old classic!). It is situated at the western end of the scenic 'Road to the Isles' which parallels the Hogwarts Express train line, known as one of the most beautiful steam train routes in Britain. There is a train station in Arisaig so it is possible to incorporate a steam train journey into your holiday.

The coastal line here is one of golden sandy beaches, vast seascapes and stunning sunsets over the 'small isles' of Eigg, Rum, Muck and Skye. The skies are vast and in winter, a glittering backdrop of stars. It is no exaggeration to say that the area is breathtaking at any time of the year.

Star na Mara is a modern house commanding wonderful views from an elevated site and close enough to the village for the convenience of the shop, cafe and restaurant.

Internally the house has been planned to get absolutely maximum benefit from the views with the main living room and kitchen dining room enjoying the immense panorama. Underfloor heating means the house is warmed at all time of the year and the sitting room has the added comfort of a multi fuel burning stove.

The kitchen is well equipped and the bed linen and towels are of a high quality. The house is situated in classic west coast crofting land and offers a peaceful and relaxing base to explore this beautiful part of Scotland's west coast.

Back in our happy place again! As always it didn't disappoint. The weather was dry with sunny intervals.Perfect for walking and exploring. Second time at this house and we love it! Who could ever tire of the outstanding views! Already booked up for next summer. Yeehaa!!!

What a fantastic place! Cottage well equipped with beautiful views. Lots to do - we enjoyed sea kayaking, pony trekking, cycling up Glen Finnan and swimming in river pools, lovely walk past Rhu Cottage to a secluded sandy bay. Would love to come back.

Fantastic House, stunning views and great location. We came up here to get married and had a perfect wedding ceremony on Camusdalach beach. A most memorable and relaxed week! Will miss the views every morning, planning to come back though! Thank you.

Well! What can we say? A beautiful house, amazing views and countryside and a great time had by all. We could look at that view all day, everyday, in any weather. A mixed week of weather but sunny spells too and amazing sunsets. Perfect! We took the Scotrail train from Arisaig to Fort William for a day when we knew it was going to be rainy - Good service and would recommend the wee museum in Fort William - Free!! and very very interesting and informative.

We've had a lovely week in such a gorgeous house! The views especially in the evening have been glorious. It's been a week of mixed weather but we've still had plenty to do - trips to Rum, Knoydart, Glenfinnan and Skye. There have been lots of oppurtunities for running, cycling and even swimming, and when the weather wasn't so good - the Harry Potter box set (thank you!). We've certainly eaten very well - would recommend The Old Library in Arisaig, Andy Rae's for fresh fish, the Garden Cafe in Mallaig and the Forge on Knoydart. We've also indulged in lots of blackberries from the brambles down by the road! The area has been perfect and the house is fantastic - Thank you!
