More information about Ceol na Mara

Property information

Ceol na Mara (Song of the Sea) was built in August 2014 and is ideal for a family seeking an easy-to-reach holiday home within a short walk of a great sandy beach. Those who want that little bit extra luxury not normally found in self catering will not be disappointed. The owner's attention to detail is evident in every room from the carefully chosen colour schemes to the Harris Tweed dining chairs. The atmosphere created is in keeping with the environment and warm and welcoming. The view from the sitting room towards the loch is ever-changing depending on the weather and, being south west facing, sunsets can be dramatic. Whatever Lewis weather accompanies you, Ceol na Mara will be a haven. In summer, when it hardly goes dark, the house will flood with light; in winter, the Atlantic storms watched from the comfort and warmth of this toasty warm house will be stunning.

Of course, with Shawbost beach not far away, there is no need to travel further for a bucket and spade day but you will almost certainly want to sample all the wonderful beaches which form a necklace of sand down the west coast. Just a few to mention are Ness, Eoropie (where there is a superb children's play park in the dunes), Carloway, Dalbeg (seen in the recent Katie Morag children's BBC programme) and several others.

There is no end to the historical and archaeological sites to visit as well as the most famous, Callanish Stones. Carloway Broch is truly magnificent and one of the finest preserved brochs in Scotland. The Norse Mills from the days of the Vikings are not far away as are the Arnol Blackhouses.

Harris Tweed can be seen being made in the traditional way in Carloway and Shawbost . All in all, a perfect holiday house for those who want that little bit more.

Ceol na Mara is a lovely warm, comfortable, well equipped property in a great location and fully met the standard we have come to expect of LHH and their selection of properties. We had a great holiday despite the gale force winds and rain we experienced during our stay. The house was particularly warm and welcoming after a day out facing the elements. Anna, the owner, and her family were also very welcoming, not only did they take in our Tesco grocery delivery they also packed it into the fridge and freezer for us. Thanks everyone.

We really enjoyed our stay at Ceol Na Mara! The property is extremely well presented and clean, with lovely views towards the sea, and a beach within a few minutes' walk. The owner called me prior to our visit and was very friendly and helpful, as was her daughter, who lives near the house and takes great care of it. We were delighted to find a Welcome Hamper awaiting us upon arrival, and a comprehensive manual of information regarding the heating and appliances, local amenities and attractions, etc., which was very useful. We would book again in the future, and recommend it as an excellent holiday destination.
  • Visitor comment May 2018
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Ceol na Mara, we found the property spotlessly clean, very comfortable and very well appointed. The owner, Anna, was very considerate in allowing us to get into the property early on arrival, and her family were very friendly and welcoming. We would have no hesitation in recommending this property and would definitely stay there again ourselves.

We had a lovely holiday and were very lucky with the weather and Coel na Mara. The house was a delight and was the perfect place to take our family to, the house was finished to a very high standard and had everything you could possibly need, even when we needed some emergency glue for sticking the all important flowers onto our granddaughter's hair slide for her wedding outfit....there it was in the utility room. we absolutely loved it and would not hesitate to book it again, Brodie and her Uncle were so lovely and ensured we had everything we needed and offered their assistance should we need anything else. 10/10 excellent.

I have meant to write to you to tell you of our experience at Ceol na Mara. Even before we had arrived I was impressed with Annie who took the time and effort to phone to let us know how to get there and suggestions about where to visit. It was a nice touch and gave me confidence in my choice of accommodation. When we arrived I was so impressed with the cottage and the welcome basket was very generous and thoughtful and the mounted photo was lovely. I am off to get a frame for it this week, such a nice memento for our holiday. The cottage was exactly how it looked on the website with nothing overlooked even emergency toiletries. Such has been my experience I have been able to recommend both the website and cottage to a work colleague. He had been disappointed at what he had found searching on the web but was most impressed with the site and the cottage. Once again I would like to thank you all for making the holiday such a lovely time from the booking on the website to the exceptional hospitality at the cottage.

We arrived yesterday after a smooth crossing and just wanted to say what a wonderful house Ceol na Mara is - truly lovely, so comfortable and we're enjoying ourselves very much in its relaxed and beautiful surroundings.Planning to head to Europie Park today, we're hoping it's not too far away but I'm sure the kids will love it - even in the rain! Finally, thank you very much to you and Craig for the fabulous goodie bag - a lovely touch and we'll all very much enjoy it!
