  • "We stayed at the property over the Xmas period."

The house was amazing, well decorated and a great place to spend Xmas with the family. Thanks to the house and grounds keeper for ensuring the stay went smoothly.

Thank you for your positive feedback. I am glad that you enjoyed your holiday at Glenfarg and I hope that you will return one day. Best Wishes From the Glenfarg Team Property Owner

  • "We stayed this past weekend and the house was freezing cold, no hot water in the main kitchen, a resident bat made itself known on the first night, all the rooms were full of dead insects and some of the party found dead flies in their beds."

I used a brush and dustpan to remove them and I have to say they could do with being replaced, the brush appeared to have been melted. There were loose tiles on the floor in the main kitchen and the sofa in my room was particularly shabby, looked like a cat had shredded the arms. In the main sitting room the chairs at the poker table were falling to bits and some door handles were secured with only one screw. The kitchen in the west wing has an external door that is very difficult to open and close and the door between the main kitchen and dining room did not close. The steps leading from the pool room to the west wing kitchen had loose edging. The dining chairs in the main kitchen were very wobbly and in need of maintenance. We had young children in our party aged 1, 2,3, 6 and 11 who couldn’t sleep as the temperature in the bedrooms was 16 degrees. Having stayed for a week 8 years ago I was looking forward to returning however was very disappointed that the property was in such a shabby condition. Overall a very disappointing experience.

  • "First thing I would say is that the housekeepers at Glenfarg house were superb and helped us deal with any issues that arose."

We were advised to book the cottage by LHH however the housekeepers were unaware it was booked and they had to move someone out of the cottage and set it up on short notice. There was also damp in the cottage and parts of the fixtures were falling to peices. Albeit it was summer, the cottage was quite cold and damp feeling. Considering we paid an additional £900 for this I was not satisfied that LHH had provided the best booking service and this was only really addressed by the housekeepers at the last minute as they had no prior warning from LHH. The main house was pleasant and good for our purposes though and the grounds were extremely well maintained.

Thank you for your feedback. Our caretakers informed us that you expected to use one of the cottages. This was not clear to us on the booking form or on the arrival schedule which specified "one cot". This could of course mean that your party wanted one baby's cot. In addition, earlier this year we informed LHH that we had decided not to let the cottages, because we know that they are not in good condition. I am glad that our caretakers managed to move my son's belongings out at short notice so that you could use the cottage. I believe that LHH advised you to book the cottage because your party exceeded 19 people and the house sleeps 19. Property Owner

  • "Glenfarg House exceeded our expectations in every respect, really a wonderful stay."

Not quite as enthusiastic re the East Cottage, but this was the fault of LHH admin, as the housekeeper had no knowledge of our booking the cottage and had no time to prepare. Apparently not the first time this has happened. But overall an excellent Christmas, thanks LHH

Lots of space for everyone, and beautiful grounds, including deer and red squirrels!

  • "Everyone in our multigenerational family loved the house and grounds and our holiday was all we could have wished for in spite of some inclement weather."

We were a party of 20 with 11 children of varying ages who all enjoyed the facilities on offer. Whether a BBQ in the garden, a firepit in the trees or stargazing all loved them. Playing tennis, badminton and football on the green when the weather allowed and games inside when it didn't. Lots of interesting places to visit too. We would highly recommend it for an extended family holiday

  • "The location of the house and the gardens were perfect."

The grounds were well kept and beautiful. The on site house keeper was very helpful. We especially enjoyed the badminton net and actually replaced it. The kids really loved the flying fox. We appreciated the equipment left to play with. The house size and the games room were excellent. We were disappointed with the cleanliness of the property - the kitchens work surfaces were not cleaned properly. There were a lot of cobwebs in property, and the fly wrappers were disgusting. Some of the furnishings were worn and could have easily been patched up: rooms in this house looked tired. None of these things spoiled our holiday; however this is not what you would expect from a luxury property. The cottage we also booked smelt damp which was not acceptable. The other disappointing experience was the information changing about whether we could have 2 dogs. Originally we were told we would could take 2 dogs in the one cottage and at the last minute we were told we would have to pay for the second cottage for the second dog. This led to a lot of confusion. At the very last minute we were then told we could have both dogs in the one cottage. It was a shame this was not communicated properly.

It's relaxed, big but cosy and feels like a second home.

  • "The description of the house totally underplayed how fantastic it is for a big family gathering."

With 3 large living areas / lounges there was heaps of opportunities to spread out. We had a noisy playroom and a quiet lounge! We had a ceilidh with highland dancing, a pool competition, volleyball champs, flying fox on repeat, sardines, board games champs and long long meals. Generously equipped we only had occasional moments of ‘oh no, there isn’t a ..,’ usually solved by looking in a different cupboard. We took one of the cottages and have family living nearby who popped in for dinners and could comfortably feed over 30.

  • "This house is superb."

There are two kitchens, both of which are well supplied with all you need. Variety of lovely sitting rooms to use. The grounds are extensive and you can walk to (and through) a disused railway tunnel nearby. I loved the huge lawn, so lovely for all the kids to play on, plus we did some 'Highland Games' and a Strip the Willow on there! Weather good all week so we sat outside a lot and used the bbq too.

  • "This is the most wonderful house for large family gatherings!"

10 adults and 8 children spent a week here and we had a fantastic time. Lots of reception rooms and the children loved the games room, but especially the gardens, where we played rounders, football etc.... It was also ideally placed for visiting Edinburgh castle, Scone palace and many other interesting sights and walks. Could not fault it at all. All very sad to leave. Lucky with the great weather too!

About the location

GLENFARG

Kinross 7 miles.

Glenfarg village sits at the southern end of a picturesque and narrow glen. Its sheltered position ensures that Glenfarg benefits from a mild climate all year round. A short drive will take you to Kinross and Loch Leven. Bounded by hills, Kinross enjoys a stunning setting at Perthshire's southern border as it nestles on the shores of Loch Leven, which lies beneath the shadow of the Lomond Hills, and is the largest loch in lowland Scotland and one of the most important sites for waterfowl in Britain. A National Nature Reserve since 1964, its position, size, shallowness, richness and variety of habitats provide a unique environment that attracts not only the largest concentration of breeding ducks found anywhere in the UK, but many thousands of migratory ducks, geese and swans every autumn and winter. Loch Leven is also famous for its fishing of brown trout. Not to be missed is a visit to the ruined fourteenth-century Loch Leven Castle, open between April and September, where Mary, Queen of Scots was imprisoned in 1567. Her dramatic escape by boat is one of Scotland's most romantic tales.
