  • Mr Mccarthy

“Glenfarg House exceeded our expectations in every respect, really a wonderful stay.”

Not quite as enthusiastic re the East Cottage, but this was the fault of LHH admin, as the housekeeper had no knowledge of our booking the cottage and had no time to prepare. Apparently not the first time this has happened. But overall an excellent Christmas, thanks LHH

The property

Glenfarg House is situated in the lush, green and rolling farmland of south east Perthshire, close to border with the Kingdom of Fife. This makes it the perfect choice for a large party of friends and families who need to meet the diverse interests of such a group. The house sleeps 19 and is open to responsible hens and stags! Easy to reach from either Glasgow or Edinburgh and yet rural location. V&A Dundee only 30 minute drive. Why not combine a visit to The Discovery Centre next to the V&A where you can climb aboard The Discovery and follow in the footsteps of Scott and his crew, see how they lived, what they ate and witness their hardships and their triumphs. It’s a fascinating tale of one of the most heroic voyages of exploration ever undertaken and a great day out for all the family. For the fishing fan there are numerous opportunities for river and loch fishing, the golfer can find plenty of local courses in and around the area but for the serious golfer who wishes to attend the major courses both Gleneagles (30-minutes) and St Andrews (40 minutes) are an easy drive. Families with children will find many visitor attractions to entertain children including the Discovery ship in Dundee - well worth a visit. Historic houses, castles and gardens are plentiful and open to the public. There are huge sandy beaches on the Fife coast to enjoy those long summer days. St Andrews is an historic and attractive town with many exclusive shops, cafes and restaurants. Perth is only a few miles away and offers major city shopping and a wealth of good restaurants. Heading west takes you deep into the Perthshire countryside. Edinburgh is under an hour drive as is Stirling Castle. Being under an hour drive from Edinburgh airport makes this a good destination for those with friends and family getting together from all parts of the globe. Once at the house you will find comfort and old world charm with spacious rooms throughout. The main house sleep 19 and there are two cottages in the grounds which accommodate 6 and 4 respectively which are available from August 2024. The gardens are large and well maintained and unusually for such a large estate house are secured fenced and gated all round. EPC Rating: Band F

About the location

GLENFARG

Kinross 7 miles.

Glenfarg village sits at the southern end of a picturesque and narrow glen. Its sheltered position ensures that Glenfarg benefits from a mild climate all year round. A short drive will take you to Kinross and Loch Leven. Bounded by hills, Kinross enjoys a stunning setting at Perthshire's southern border as it nestles on the shores of Loch Leven, which lies beneath the shadow of the Lomond Hills, and is the largest loch in lowland Scotland and one of the most important sites for waterfowl in Britain. A National Nature Reserve since 1964, its position, size, shallowness, richness and variety of habitats provide a unique environment that attracts not only the largest concentration of breeding ducks found anywhere in the UK, but many thousands of migratory ducks, geese and swans every autumn and winter. Loch Leven is also famous for its fishing of brown trout. Not to be missed is a visit to the ruined fourteenth-century Loch Leven Castle, open between April and September, where Mary, Queen of Scots was imprisoned in 1567. Her dramatic escape by boat is one of Scotland's most romantic tales.

Note: Bring own linen for travel cot. Note: Though electricity is included in the rent, electric for charging cars is not included in the rental.
