It’s a peaceful place with stunning views over the Moray Firth. It’s the kind of place you can just sit and listen to the waves. The area is brilliant to explore with great links to the A9 for Inverness and beyond. It’s really made by the owners who are only next door and made us feel welcome. They obviously care about the place and so everything possible to make sure their guests are comfortable with some lovely touches such as a fresh fruit bowl. Thank you to them.

The cottage has everything you need and is extremely clean and comfortable. Penny and David our hosts were very friendly and helpful without being intrusive. The welcome basket and fruit bowl were most welcome. The cottage is well situated to travel to various attractions such as Dunrobin and Cawdor Castles , Culloden battlefield and museum and for wildlife enthusiasts there is Findhorn and Spey Bay.If you require your entertainment to be close to the cottage then it is not for you but if you want a relaxing time and are prepared to travel short distances you won’t beat it. We are already looking for a return date.

Amazing view and so peaceful (yet Inverness is less than 20 mins drive). Within easy reach by car of many fantastic sites (Culloden, Glen Affric, Chanonry Point). If you want facilities (shop, pub etc) within walking distance/close at hand (I didn’t) then this cottage might not be for you but if you want quiet and the sea on your doorstep then this is the perfect spot. The owners are charming and have the most amazing garden next door that is well worth a visit.

Clean, comfortable and everything we needed, the owners who live next door were very nice and helpfull and supplied us with information about the area and surprised us with the amount of goodies they left for us, very much appreciated after our long journey hindered by many road works. Lots of places to visit but if you just want a nice quiet holiday this is the place, so nice and peaceful with amazing views from the room and dining area its nice to sit and watch the world go by and see the dolphins and lots of birds. We would recommend this lovely cottage to everyone who loves the countryside and sea. The only small downside is the rear garden which is rather steep it's the lie of the land, there are steps up to a platform with chairs and a marvelous view from the top over the bay but I was only able to manage it once with my son's help, a shame but not a problem as the front garden has seating and views to die for. Thank you Penny & David for a lovely holiday and all the Best for the future,

We received a warm welcome from Penny and David who popped round to introduce themselves and ensure we had everything we needed, they had also written and printed their own ideas of both both short and longer car trips to give plenty of ideas for days out. It’s a tremendous place to escape the hustle and bustle yet not too far from amenities. From the cottage we saw, black backed, herring and common gulls, cormorants, little grebes, red squirrels and red kites. A visit to Chanonry Point provided us with views of seals and dolphins. The siting of the cottage on the banks of the Firth is quite special and the drive to Kilmuir from the main road, along narrow, tree lined roads is beautiful and creates an immediate sense of getting away from it all. The cottage itself was comfortable and had all the amenities and equipment we needed for a very pleasant week. The owners were very friendly and helpful and we wish to thank them for our lovely break. It was possible to sit in the gardens with a view over the Firth, the back garden slopes up steeply so there is a good raised view and the well tended front garden is close to the beach. Excellent places to vist within easy reach of Kilmuir are Cromarty, Culloden and Castle Urquhart.

All in such a peaceful, beautiful setting with Penny and David being such warm, friendly and helpful hosts. Which we really appreciated. The Cottage is set in a quiet rural coastal location with stunning views of the Moray Firth by day and twinkling lights in the distance by night. The location offers the calmness of the Black Isles countryside and coast on one side of the Kessock bridge and the city of Inverness only 10 minutes away on the other side. Truly the best of both worlds. Perfect for town and country pursuits. Everything you could possibly wish for only a short car ride away. We will hopefully be back again another time soon. After many uncertainties regarding current travel regulations, we were incredibly happy when we finally arrived at this beautiful place in the highlands. The hosts couldn't have been nicer and welcomed us warmly into their treasure of a holiday home. The location overlooking the moray firth is absolutely incredible - secluded yes, but the city of Inverness is easily reached within a 15min drive. The cottage itself is in great condition and equipped with everything you'd need. This was truly our home away from home on a much needed holiday. Thank you to the hosts of the property! And thank you to the team of LHH who have been great in responding to all our questions before and during the booking process! We'd love to come back to this beautiful part of the world at some point! Tip for train lovers: We took the Caledonian sleeper night train up from London: What a great experience! , and jug of milk in the fridge, and, and.... a posy of flowers in a vase in the kitchen and ending with a lovely visit to Penny and David's amazingly interesting vertiginous garden, we had a perfectly splendid week at Lilac cottage. The kitchen is superbly appointed; especially useful for us was the slow cooker so that a lovely meal awaited us on our days out. The rest of the accommodation was exactly what we expected - homely and comfortable. It's a great location for exploring the Black Isle and the Highlands. We loved the proximity to the Moray Firth - (is it possible to be any closer without swimming?) and the exclusive little row of cottages in which Lilac nestles was a lovely setting. Watching a full moon rising over the Firth from the large kitchen window...... Studying the afternoon shoreline club of Oystercatcher, curlew, redshank, gooseander and heron....driving through a beech avenue to the cottage every day....... improve upon it if you can! Thank you Penny and David.

Welcome basket of goodies, milk in the fridge, flowers in a vase in the window. Lilac Cottage was a delight from start to finish - a well-equipped kitchen served us well all week. A very comfortable bed to flop into at the end of a long day. And what a view - just a few feet from the foreshore of the Moray Firth. No dolphins this time but the afternoon club of Gooseander, Oystercatcher, Redshank, Curlew and Heron, all prospecting a few yards from us was a treat. A perfect location for forays into the Black Isle and the Highlands. We'll be back!

It was a genuine home from home for us. We have stayed in a number of cottages before but this was the best by far. A 5 minute drive off the main road, yet the peace and tranquility would make you think you'd driven for hours! Beautiful views on to the Moray Firth from the kitchen, bedroom and living room where you can watch the wildlife (including the dolphins if you're lucky!). The cottage is secluded and quiet, but provides a useful base to go exploring loads of different places because it's within such each reach of the main road. Alternatively, if you just want to kick back and chill, then it provides everything you'd need to do that too! Just wonderful.

We arrived after the coldest March for many years, yet once the heating was on we were really snug, enjoying such healing views of the sea/firth at our doorstep. The cottage is furnished to a high and modern standard; kitchen very well kitted; each room has a lovely ambience and a sense of peace fills the place. Though part of a tightly housed little hamlet (Kilmuir), we didn't feel enclosed at all - quite the opposite. Owners Penny and David Veitch are a really lovely couple who live next door and will be as much or as little help as you want - but make time to see their garden! • "Have just left Lilac Cottage after a week's stay - wish I had booked two weeks!"

If you're looking for peace and quiet, a walk along the shore, and a pretty, comfortable cottage with amazing views (you're a stone's throw from the water), then this is it. I've used half-a-dozen other self-catering cottages in various places - all very nice, but this one was the best. Two things: if you have small children, be aware there is very little space for them to run around unsupervised, as the back garden is very slopping, and the front is unimpeded to the lane and the water. Also, there is no clothes dryer, just a washer (plenty of drying racks, but if the weather is damp, it takes a while.) We would certainly stay again - it's a good base for the far north, Isle of Skye, and of course, Loch Ness. Thanks!

We even saw a roe deer in the back garden one evening. Some evenings we had little partridges sleeping on the back wall. The cottage itself has every thing you could ask for - books, dvds and lots of information leaflets and every kitchen item you would ever need. Penny and David made us feel most welcome and were near by if we needed them. The welcome basket was a lovely touch so were the flowers and fruit. If you want a holiday that is peaceful and you enjoy looking out to sea so much so that you switch off Lilac Cottage is for you. If you get a chance go and see the baby polar bear at Kincraig Wildlife Park. We did and we will never forget seeing him swimming in his pool. We have been to Scotland a number of times and Lilac Cottage is the best place we have stayed for comfort and views we will return one day

  • "Just back from an amazing stay at Lilac cottage."

Cant thank Penny enough for being such a kind host who was always available with information. The cottage has a stunning view. We did less than planned as didnt want to leave in the morning. Lovely seating in front and back garden. The cottage is just as lovely inside. So much to do, walks from the door along the shore to short drives to channory point and other attractions. We seen an otter and red kite as we enjoyed breakfast. Cant recommended it enough. Thank you for a truly amazing holiday.

  • "Congrats to Penny and David on the superb, stunning and peaceful location and the very high standard of Lilac Cottage."

It has all the essential items for a great holiday and lots more thrown in to really make you feel at home. It is truly 5 *. We were fortunate to enjoy glorious weather during our short break at Kilmuir and amongst our local visits, were the old station in Strathpeffer, the village of Cromarty and our successful sightings of the dolphins at Chanonry Point and on the Avoch sailing trip. Unfortunately, the Dolphins did not visit Lilac cottage during our stay....we must come back!!

  • "We made a last minute booking of Lilac Cottage in April 2018 and were amazed by how secluded somewhere so close to Inverness can be."

The cottage itself is very comfortable and the right size for couples or small families. It is also very well equipped and if you need anything, the extremely friendly owners are right next door, who have gone to a great deal of effort to detail all the local places and walks you might want to try. Highly recommended.

  • "Looking for a comfortable cottage by the sea in which to relax and unwind, then Lilac Cottage is the place for you."

The owners, Penny and David, have gone to great lengths to ensure their cottage provides all you could need for a very happy holiday. It is well equipped and has heaps of information on what to do and where to go. If this not enough(!!!) Penny and David, who live next door, are always ready to offer suggestions. We felt 'at home' as soon as we walked in the door not least because there was a lovely 'welcome' basket, bowl of fruit and flowers waiting for us. The area has much to offer whatever your particular interests. Locally we really enjoyed Rosemarkie and Chanonry Point, but a day out exploring the coast all the way to John O'Groats is well worth doing and, for us, the tour inside the Castle of Mey was a delight. (from a whisky drinker the 15 Year old from Dalmore is also a must!!!!!). Wild life also abounds. A deer and red squirrel in the back garden, oystercatcher with two chicks next door, dolphins in the firth and a lucky sighting for us of a pine marten. You will not be disappointed with a stay at Lilac Cottage!

  • "Many thanks for the confirmation of the return of the house-keeping deposit."

We had an excellent week at Lilac Cottage where Penny's thoughtful provisions made for a very enjoyable and comfortable stay. The location is first class, the cottage well laid out and a brilliant view across the Firth, with dolphins spotted as well. We can thoroughly recommend Lilac Cottage, although not too strongly as we want to go back for another stay as well!!

  • "We've had a great two weeks in this beautiful cottage."

During more than 40 years that we've rented cottages in England, Wales and Scotland, we haven't been in such a lovely cottage on such a stunning location. The cottage is very well equipped, it lacks nothing, it is a real home from home. Penny and David, thank you very much for your good help and good care during the last weeks. We'll come back next year !!

  • "If you want to enjoy the beauty of Scotland this is the place to stay."

Super house, comfortable and the ideal place to return to after a long day touring the Far North as we did. Inverness is a short distance away and is worth a visit. We have stayed at many properties in Scotland and this takes some beating. The owners live close by and are more than helpful, we had a great weeks stay.
