  • "Lovely stay, beautiful cottage in a great location."

The cottage could have been a bit cleaner, but was acceptable. It was very cosy and everything was provided for.

  • "Cromarty: a surprising find for us."

At the tip of land between the Moray and Cromarty firths, it is a warren of lanes and vennels, many leading to the shore, with freshly painted cottages and a variety of shops, a couple of cafes, two pubs and a cinema. The shore displays the industrial nature of this region which adds rather than detracts from the place. There is also a sandy bucket & spade kind of beach. Seashell cottage: well placed near bus stop (for Inverness), food store and shore. Attractively if traditionally decorated and furnished, it is clean, warm and well equipped. Sitting room: definitely the nicest room - cosy, comfortable, matching fittings (incl matching light bulbs) give it a loved & welcoming feeling. TV set is not WiFi enabled but we found Netflix via the dvd player (no instructions for use of this or anything else). Downstairs loo: cramped but functional. Kitchen: well equipped. Large table & old dresser. But overall showing its age plus oversize microwave took up much of the worktop space. Many items in need of a refresh (rusty grater, ironing board cover disintegrating etc). Double oven cooker but main oven not functioning. Vacuum cleaner & broom rather mucky, no mop & bucket. No fire blanket (believe this a requirement for holiday lets). Twin bedroom: light, airy, spacious but we didn't use. Bathroom: Good supply of hot water, but dominated by large roll top bath so shower cubicle the smallest possible - bit like a glass sentry box. 3 pin socket under basin was a surprise. An electric towel warmer/extra towels would be welcome. Bath did not drain properly. Main bedroom: roomy, bed comfortable enough though duvet very lightweight (provide an extra blanket?). Plenty of drawer space. A second large pillow so two people can sit up in bed comfortably, more generous provision of decent hangers (had to retrieve from lobby/other bedroom & we travel light!), a light at the bedroom mirror, would all have been welcome. There was a hairdryer & t-towels (not listed) and some basics for cooking (also not listed). Bit mean with the loo rolls and no kitchen towel. Seashell cottage is a pleasant, comfortable base for a stay in Cromarty but we thought, from the branding, that LHH properties would be a cut above the rest with a better quality & more generous offer; it was disappointing to find this was not so.

  • "Unfortunately we found the cottage basic and dated and not matching the over flattering description on Sykes website."

For example the website says "With stunning views, Seashell Cottage is a traditional stone-built Scottish cottage and a wonderful base..." However the cottage is on the High Street, opposite, the townhall and a bus stop, not stunning in the least. Also as the High St is the main route into the village, there's quite a bit of traffic noise. The living room and kitchen were functional, again not in keeping with the website's elaborate descriptions. The beds were very hard and uncomfortable. We ended up sleeping in separate rooms and in end came home 2 days early. The house next door was been renovated (Nov 22) and as such there was building noise most mornings. On the plus side, Cromarty itself is a lovely little village with a lot to offer, local pubs, restaurants and shops are great. Any locals we met were really friendly and engaging, it seems like a lovely place to live. Day trips to Dornoch, Culloden and Inverness were easy and local villages of Rosemarkie, Avoch and Fortrose are worth exploring too.

  • "Seashell cottage is a homely and welcoming place with everything you could need for a lovely stay."

The bedrooms are particularly beautiful and the whole place was very clean! Cromarty offered so much more than we were expecting, beautiful surroundings, good food, friendly people and the cottage was a superb base to take it all in. My husband and I were there with our 9 month old and 8 year old and it was a very comfortable stay for all of us; the cot and high chair were ideal. We can’t wait to come back.

  • "We stayed in Seashell Cottage 28 May to 4 June 2022 (2 adults)."

We had an absolutely lovely holiday. The cottage is very well maintained and had everything we needed during our stay. The cottage is well equipped with everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. It was impeccably clean and in a great location. The bakery is just round the corner as well as the well-stocked convenience store, as well as other great shopsI we would highly recommend this cottage if anyone is thinking of staying in this stunning area of Scotland.

  • "We had a wonderful week in Seashell Cottage."

The cottage itself was clean, comfortable and well equipped. The location was perfect and we were lucky enough to be able to enjoy the outdoor space as the weather was perfect. I would recommended Cromarty and in particular Seashell Cottage to anyone thinking of visiting the area.

  • "Seashell was a clean and very well equipped cottage."

Impressive array of DVDs, maps, local information and fiction books. The kitchen possibly the best equipped we have stayed in, useful basics in cupboard handy too. The only negatives I would say are a couple of small coffee tables in lounge would be useful, also the seat cushions on sofa very worn out and uncomfortable, some new foam inserts would help. Bed comfortable. Location good.

  • "What a fabulous find!"

Clean and comfy cottage. Fabulous and helpful neighbours, housekeepers go beyond and above this one is on the "return" list. Thank you Morven and Dee.

  • "We had a fabulous week and I would love you to pass on my comments to the owners."

Booking with LHH was great and I especially appreciated the clear and full correspondence from both LHH and Morven the housekeeper. The cottage was just perfect. So clean and comfortable and homely. Morven clearly takes great pride in looking after the cottage and gave us a lovely welcome. The beds are extra comfy and the lovely linen appreciated as well as the beautiful furnishings and decor. The shower is brilliant- a treat in the morning. We loved cosying into the lounge - just wish I had more time to enjoy the DVDs and books. We shared lovely times round the kitchen table and appreciated the lovely crockery and the fact the cupboards had some cooking essentials. Last special mention to the fish key rings! Honestly the loveliest holiday house we have had the pleasure of staying in. We felt so at home and were all really sad to leave . All in all a very special week. We hope to return next year.

  • "We have been to Seashell Cottage twice and thoroughly enjoyed our stay each time."

It is a snug little cottage, very clean and with all mod cons such as WiFi. The wood-burning stove makes for cosy winter evenings. Our 3-months old daughter slept very well in the travel cot provided. The cot comes with a bassinet (2nd level) for babies, which is nice and back-friendly for parents. There is a bakery just round the corner for fresh bread and croissants in the mornings and Sutor Creek, a popular restaurant, is not far either. We would definitely recommend this cottage and will certainly visit again in the future. Ute & Markus, Bristol

  • "My husband and I really liked this cottage, it is one of the nicest we have stayed in."

We don't often consider returning to a place we have been to (too many other places to see!) but we are thinking of going back to Seashell Cottage and Cromarty. The cottage is decorated to a high standard, although the kitchen isn't quite as bright as the photos make it look. Seating in living room is comfortable - which is often not the case in rental properties I've found. Beds are comfy too. Bathroom small but workable. Cromarty is a lovely wee place with lots to see and do, although new visitors should be aware that the firth is used by the oil industry to repair rigs so this does spoil the view somewhat but this is all part of the Cromarty scenery- so don't let it put you off going. Great place for cyclists as local traffic very considerate.

  • "We found Seashell cottage very comfortable and well appointed."

The supply of DVD's, paperbacks, useful OS maps etc was much appreciated. The beds were really comfy and the kitchen had everything one needed and more! Key collection was easy and LHH gave us great service. I have been recommending you.

About the location

CROMARTY

Inverness 23.8 miles; Elgin 59.1 miles; Lossiemouth 63.8 miles.

Cromarty, poised on the tip of the Black Isle at the mouth of the Cromarty Firth, is the Highlands' best preserved historic town. It is a jewel, rich in history, folklore, striking architecture, and offers grand views of seven counties from the headland above it. But Cromarty is more than just an 18th century town. For modern travellers and holidaymakers it provides a wealth of attractions: sandy beaches, unusual architecture, Bottlenose Dolphins, eating places, a multi-award winning museum, beautiful countryside, wildlife, and bird reserves of international importance, to name but a few. Being only a 30 minute drive from Inverness, the 'Capital of the Highlands', Cromarty combines the advantages of its convenience as a base from which to travel throughout the Highlands, with an apparent detachment from the mainstream tourist routes, giving the best of both worlds.
