“A beautiful property in a great location.”

The owner has thought about everything and provides anything you can think of to make your stay a comfortable one. I had an initial problem on arrival, but this was dealt with promptly and satisfactorily by the owner - thank you so much for a wonderful stay and all the effort you put into making your property delightful

The property

An ultra-luxurious, exquisitely modelled and furnished, town house situated in the very centre of the Highland’s most historic town, Beauly ('beautiful place’) close to the River Beauly and blessed with a view from the sitting room to the Medieval Valliscaullian Priory. The Priory was established in 1230 when the Valliscaullians of Val des Chaux, France, were invited by the then landowner, Sir John Bisset, to come and build a monastic community here. After 300 peaceful and contemplative years, their lives were brought to an abrupt end during the Reformation. The ruin stands proud and is flanked by the remains of a 900 year old elm tree which is also just in front of Number 1. Beauly is steeped in history and well rewards exploration and research. Enter Number 1 and you will be met with another level of tranquillity, beauty and opulence, as this house has been a labour of love for the interior designer/owner who has poured her skills and love into this creation and now welcomes you to enjoy what can only be described as perfection. She hopes that you will take from staying at Number 1 all that she enjoys herself. To this end original artwork, personal book collections and artefacts, are left for your enjoyment. It is a not a house 'fixed up’ for self-catering' but a house to be thoroughly enjoyed as a very special home from home retreat. Whilst the kitchen is superbly appointed and equipped to cook in, you are close to several places to eat in or take out, including Scottish, Italian, and Indian. The closest restaurant, The Priory Hotel, is just a few strides away. There is a wonderful licensed delicatessen/café for breakfasts and lunches, a butcher, greengrocer and a supermarket sitting along with art and craft shops, antiques and a gallery. A short walk from the house is The School House cafe/restaurant and gift shop, which is ideal for gift buying of Scottish goods. From Spring to Autumn Beauly is ablaze with floral displays and coming to Christmas time, it sparkles with lights and a huge Christmas tree in the square. Travel is a breeze too. There is a train station along the road from where you can go east to Inverness or north to Caithness and west to Kyle of Lochalsh, this being one of the most beautiful train journeys in Scotland. There is a regular bus service to Inverness and the airport, if you are looking for a car free break. However, for those who want the best of both worlds, the convenience of all a country town can offer, but with the wild country easily accessible, you are perfectly placed for heading up to Glen Affric - one of Scotland's wilderness areas, with stunning mountains and deep woodlands where wildlife abounds. Drink deep on this beautiful wee gem in the Highlands and return refreshed and inspired.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £300.

About the location

BEAULY

Inverness 12 miles.

Lying on the north bank of the River Beauly, just 12 miles west of Inverness, the village of Beauly is situated at the very heart of the Highlands. An excellent location for touring, the village is within easy reach of Loch Ness, the ancient Caledonian pine forests of Glen Affric and Strathfarrar and the coast (sandy beaches 8 miles). The name Beauly comes from the French “beau lieu” or “beautiful place” and the village prides itself on being both scenic and well-kept, having won both Scotland and Britain in Bloom titles. One of Beauly's highlights is the ruined 13th Century priory, around which the village was built. Today the village is famous for its craft-based industries and offers an excellent selection of shops, pubs and restaurants. With some of the best scenery the Highlands has to offer just on the doorstep, Beauly makes an excellent holiday base!
