    “Lovely cottage with outstanding views.”

Wildlife in abundance, beautiful sunsets and dark skies make this cottage a fantastic base for exploring the area. The house was comfortable with lots of space and was well equipped. We will definitely stay again.

The property

This traditional self-catering Scottish farmhouse in tranquil Strathdearn, is a secluded property overlooking river and woodland, yet only 14 miles south of Inverness and 16 miles north of Aviemore. Ideally situated for touring the Highlands, and a good choice for a winter holiday, this country farmhouse is only a short drive to one of Scotland's most popular ski resorts in the Cairngorm Mountains near Aviemore. There is a wealth of activities from which to choose to satisfy all age groups. Close to home you might like to visit the Tomatin Distillery Visitor Centre, where you can take a tour and sample some of their exclusive malt whisky. Visit the many castles, see the wolves at the Highland Wildlife Park, or take the children to the famous Landmark Forest Adventure Park with its exciting flume rides. Loch Ness is only a 30-minute drive, and the Loch Ness Monster Visitor Centre at Drumnadrochit is open throughout the year. Urquhart Castle is open during the season, and it is possible to sail down the loch, either during the day or on an evening cruise. Winter sports at Aviemore and the Cairngorms can be enjoyed at their best in January and February and after a day on the ski slopes, what could be better than to return to your holiday cottage and a roaring log fire. For those who are seeking a more peaceful break, the immediate area is one of tranquil beauty, with hills, forests and natural silver birch woodland ideal for walking and cycling. A large farmhouse kitchen (with table for 8) enjoys peaceful views across the Findhorn Valley through French doors and is the perfect place to gather together. The large garden, fenced and gated, is a safe place for children to play. Covered Sports Facility: The Community Sports Facility is an outdoor synthetic pitch, sheltered under a material roof, with floodlighting. It's big enough for five-a-side football, tennis and junior matches of football, shinty etc. There is a tennis net available, which should be booked in advance with the Hall manager. The hall has insurance cover for the sports pitch as long as children's groups are supervised by an adult. Charges apply.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £150.

About the location

Within easy reach of a host of exciting tourist attractions and surrounded by spectacular mountain and moorland scenery, the small village of Carrbridge has a great deal to offer during both the summer and winter months. Situated within the Cairngorms National Park, the village is home to a pony trekking centre, a challenging 9-hole golf course and a good selection of shops and eateries. The Landmark Forest Theme Park and Visitor Centre features displays on the natural history of the Highlands and once a year, during October, the Village Hall is transformed into the setting to find the World's Best Porridge Maker, a competition not to be missed! Nearby Aviemore, with its championship golf course and wide selection of shops and pubs is well worth a visit, whilst the surrounding countryside offers great walking, cycling and wildlife watching opportunities together with superb skiing on the Cairngorm Mountain Range.
