This quaint holiday property, Grey Craig Cottage, is tucked away on the edge of a nature friendly working farm, Williamwood Farm, surrounded by young woodlands, and wild meadow ground where deer, wading birds, foxes and badgers are commonplace sightings. Near the market town of Annan in Dumfries and Galloway, not far from Gretna Green, Hadrian's Wall and the Solway Coast, Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
This charming cottage, an idyllic rural escape, welcomes small families, friends sharing, natural lovers or those who want to enjoy the peace and tranquillity that is offered in the lovely mature woodlands or around the loch.
From your sitting room there is a gorgeous view over the fields full of wildflowers in summer and onto the loch in the distance, not forgetting the highland cows grazing away. Although very convenient to visit many local attractions and cities the farm offers so many walks and vistas you may find you don't want to leave.
Upon entering the home through the patio doors, be sure to take advantage of the shaker-style kitchen's full amenities. Here, scrumptious meals may be rustled up and enjoyed in the tastefully decorated sitting room, which includes soft sofas and a woodburning stove as its focal point.
Be sure to head back out later to enjoy a moment of relaxation in the outdoor hot tub, where the famous dark skies provide for an incredibly relaxing place to spend your evenings. Two tastefully-decorated bedrooms are waiting to assist you with resting and refreshing before a day full of activities.
If you feel like leaving your homely base, make sure to visit The Devils Porridge War Museum on your way to Gretna Green, where you can explore historic sites like Quintinshill or spend the day at the Courtship Maze and retail park, a real family-friendly location. The renowned Scottish poet Robert Burns was born in Dumfries, which is also where his memorial sits. Robert The Bruce was also a resident of the area, Bruce's Cave only three miles away and there are splendid castles such as Drumlanrig Sweetheart Abby and Carlisle all within easy reach. If you’re looking for something more energetic, try some bowling at the Hollywood Bowl or swimming at Annan or Dumfries. Enjoy all of this and much more during your stay at Grey Craig Cottage and watch out for the badger who pops into the garden for his peanut tea. This quaint little village sits in southwest Scotland right on the border to England, and is a world-famous destination for runaway marriages, appearing in many popular films and TV series over the years. The village itself, while neighouring the well-stocked town of Gretna, offers a small selection of amenities including a restaurant and a choice of hotels and pubs to have a drink in. The area is superb for lovers of the countryside, on the opposite side of the River Esk sits the stunning Solway Firth and the Solway Coast AONB to keep you busy. As well as the charming towns of Dumfries, Lockerbie and Langholm within Scotland, you can cross the border into England and explore the beautiful county of Cumbria, with wonderful spots such as Carlisle and Brampton on offer.
