    “This was our second stay at Eagle Lodge and it was just wonderful.”

    .. again. Norrie and Muriel are so welcoming and helpful. The house must have one of the best views over the bay of Uig and you can wander down to the sands in the evening. The house itself is spacious, comfortable, warm and fully equipped with everything you need for cooking. The jacuzzi is great - what a way to end your day, watching a sunset or seeing the first stars appear while you are in the tub. The place is also full of an amazing family history which encapsulates the history of the ...

The place is also full of an amazing family history which encapsulates the history of the island. We will be back again next year for sure. The only negative note is that LHH don't provide a receipt / invoice anymore. This is worth noting as the house is perfect for groups, but not having the appropriate paperwork for accounts can be problematic for any professionals wishing to use the lodge. hopefully this will change in the future.

The property

Everything about Eagle Lodge is on a large scale! From the vastness of the landscape which it commands, the panorama of mountains, beaches and seascape, to the spacious interior, which offers maximum comfort with minimal effort, you will find Eagle Lodge the perfect large holiday home for family or friends. Arriving to the spectacular location high above Uig Sands is a pleasure worth travelling for. From the panoramic views, encompassing many Uig Hills, to the Atlantic Ocean and the Flannan Isles, famous for the mysterious disappearance of the Lighthouse Keepers on 1900 Eagle Lodge has it all. The lodge is very spacious, well equipped and offers luxurious spa facilities in the large hot tub and the spa bathroom with its sauna, jacuzzi and steam shower. The music system is powerful and comprehensive and there are Sky packages and cinema sound TV. Children are made most welcome and the off-road location is safe for them to play outside. Two toddler beds can be provided for those just graduating from a cot! Uig is an area of breathtaking scenery and huge white sandy beaches which, depending on time of year, you may find yourselves the only people enjoying them. Uig also has a great community with a thriving community store, fuel station, restaurant, cafe, seafood shack and museum and is an hour drive from Stornoway ferry terminal and just over the hour from the airport. There are flights from Southend, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness, Aberdeen and other major airports. Daily ferries sail from Ullapool or Skye and car hire is readily available on the island. For the more active in the party there is hill climbing, rock climbing on sea cliffs, kayaking and great surfing beaches. Fishing and stalking may be available through local estates and boat trips to the Flannan Isle are possible too. Wildlife chasers will not be disappointed and the choice of house name denotes that fact that these magnificent birds are frequent visitors, both Golden Eagles and White Tailed Sea Eagles. Otters are fairly easy to see if you find the right places and deer roam wild. The Uig Sands, which is viewed in its entirety from the comfort of the lounge, is the location of the finding of the now famous Lewis Chessmen, a hoard of medieval chess pieces, carved from Walrus tusk by Vikings in the 12th century. There is also a scenic Black House ruin on the croft which the Lodge overlooks. This was built and inhabited by the owner's ancestors and bears a fascinating history documented in a book in the house. Deer roam the land around; otters can be looked for in the many bays and eagles and ravens are not infrequently seen. Uig is the premier location of Lewis, a match for any sandy beaches in the Outer Hebrides and a destination to definitely have on that list! The islands can be reached by flights from Edinburgh, Glasgow or Inverness; or by ferry from Uig on Skye to Tarbert, or Ullapool to Stornoway. EPC Rating: Band D

Stornoway is the only town in the Outer Hebrides and is a bustling and growing area with a busy working harbour, a great selection of shops selling local gifts including Harris Tweed, leisure facilities and wonderful award-winning restaurants selling locally sourced food of the highest quality. Lewis is a place where the lilting Gaelic language is spoken everywhere! Visitors to the town will find plenty to keep them occupied, the magnificent Lews Castle Grounds and the iconic Lews Castle, many good museums and art galleries and also a smart golf course and clubhouse. The large, quiet sandy beaches are close by and provide visitors with wonderful views and the town itself forms a great base for a holiday exploring the unique islands that form the Outer Hebrides. On the north west side of Lewis you can visit the village of Arnol with its Blackhouse Museum, an unmissable visit for anyone wanting to understand the way of life that was once widespread in Lewis. Carloway Broch is nearby and is another fascinating landmark and incredibly well preserved. The Callanish Stones from the Neolithic are also well worth visiting. The whalebone arch and numerous Iron Age dwellings on stunning Bosta beach make for great days out. The friendliness of the local people will astound visitors to the islands and you cannot fail to be impressed with the genteel and contented pace of life you will encounter here.
