  • Mr Oakes

“We appreciated the owner waiting to greet us when we arrived at Rockpool and the generous basket of local produce that was left for us.”

The setting is stunning, with uninterrupted views to Eriksay and the house itself is to a very high specification. Beds and sofas very comfortable and house really well equipped. We enjoyed the ponies coming to visit most mornings and walking on the beach at low tide was lovely. Thoroughly recommend.

The property

Rockpool occupies a truly magnificent position and commands panoramic views across the sea to the islands of Eriskay, Barra and beyond to the mountains of Rum. The view is just breathtaking and will surely mean that you hardly want to stray from this perfect holiday cottage! However, the beautiful, white shell beaches will lure you away to explore, but Rockpool will always be a warm and welcoming base to return to. The island of Barra is just a short ferry trip so easy to visit in a day and here you can see the planes landing on a cockle shell beach - subject to tides of course! South Uist and North Uist are connected by a causeway so it is easy to tour both islands during your stay and those wishing to sail from Skye to North Uist can then drive down to Rockpool in under an hour and a half. The cottage offers comfortable and welcoming accommodation with the luxury of 3 bedrooms and 3 shower rooms.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £150.

About the location

DALIBURGH, ISLE OF SOUTH UIST

Lochboisdale 3 miles; Ludag, 6.2 miles; Benbecula 24.8 miles.

Daliburgh is a town on South Uist in the Outer Hebrides and is known for being a crofting town. There is a memorial here to commemorate the life and works of Donald Allan MacDonald, a Gaelic poet who lived in Daliburgh in the mid 20th century. It is a great base from which to explore a fantastic selection of activities from fishing and walking to diving and birdwatching. The nearby Askernish Golf Course is always popular and was originally designed by ‘Old’ Tom Morris and is popular with golfers keen to test themselves on this challenging course. Dining options include fish and chips from the Burnside Chip Shop or for something a little more fancy dine in at the Borrodale Hotel. While you are in Daliburgh you can stock up on supplies at the supermarket and there is also a number of other shops including gifts shops. A short distance from Daliburgh is the fascinating Kildonan Museum and the birthplace of Flora MacDonald as well as a host of fabulous beaches just waiting to be discovered.

Note: Though electricity is included in the rent, electric for charging cars is not included in the rental.
Note: Please bear in mind that this property is located on an island and therefore only accessible by plane or ferry.
Note: The cottage is situated on crofting land and dogs must never be allowed to run free around the sheep
