The property

Otter Cottage is situated in one of the most superb west coast of Harris locations overlooking Scarista beach. Although time changes most things, it has had little impact on the natural landscape and the wonderful beaches of this fabulous island. The sea is still turquoise and beach sparkling white! The famous 'machair' continues to bloom in spring as it always has and the traditional crofting communities still exist. Recommended reading whilst here is the Finlay J Macdonald trilogy detailing his life and upbringing in Harris - indeed he was raised in the croft next door to where the cottages now sit. However, step inside and you are transported to the ultimate luxury of 21st century self catering! The cottage and it's twin, Corncrake Cottage, sit at the foot of the Harris golf course and Scarista beach is just metres away. Each cottage has three en suite bedrooms with showers and one has a shower. The kitchen is well equipped and superbly appointed and the huge sitting room with its cathedral ceiling and glass wall is ideal for relaxing and socialising. Outside and on the decked area, privately situated, is a beautiful 'Ornate Gardens' glass pod which has seating for 8, heating and lighting, and is perfect for watching the stunning night skies in the darker months or the fabulous sunsets at all times. The cottages, whilst being close enough for 2 families to holiday together, are cleverly angled away from each other to offer more privacy individually. The Isle of Harris and especially the west coast is perhaps best known for its fabulous beaches which are some of the finest in the world. Being sparsely populated, the beaches are rarely crowded and often almost deserted. The names are evocative of the Norse history; Horgabost, Seilebost, Luskentyre and Scarista. Each one has its own special attributes but all stunning. The famous Harris Tweed is still spun on the islands and many craft workers produce not only the raw cloth but clothing, purses, handbags and many other accessories and luxury gifts. You can get to the islands by plane or ferry. Flights are operated by Flybe and Eastern Airways from Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness, Benbecula and Barra. Caledonian MacBraynes operate all ferry routes from Ullapool, Leverburgh and Uig to Harris and Lewis.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £250.
