    “A truly wonderful place.”

Great views from the property and so comfortable. Well equipped and such a great idea having the pod in the garden.

The property

Corncrake and Otter are two luxurious cottages overlooking Scarista beach on the west coast of Harris, a place noted for its beauty, mountains and beaches. Finlay J Macdonald, the author, wrote about his childhood detailing growing up in Harris. He was born in Scarista on the croft next to the two cottages. Although time changes, much it has had little impact on the natural landscape and the wonderful beaches. The sea is still turquoise and the beach sparkling white! The famous 'machair' continues to bloom in spring as it always has and the traditional crofting communities still thrive in this stunning part of the world. However, step inside Corncrake and you are transported to the ultimate luxury of 21st century self catering! The cottages overlook the Harris Golf Course and Scarista beach is just metres away. All three bedrooms are en suite, and one has a bath in addition. The kitchen is well-equipped and superbly appointed and the huge sitting room with its cathedral ceiling and glass wall is ideal for relaxing and socialising. Outside and privately situated on the decked area is a beautiful 'Ornate Gardens' glass pod with seating for 8, heating and lighting. The cottages, whilst being close enough for 2 families to holiday together, are cleverly angled away from each other to offer more privacy individually. The Isle of Harris and especially the west coast is perhaps best known for its fabulous beaches which are some of the finest in the world. Being sparsely populated, the beaches are rarely crowded and often almost deserted. The names are evocative of the Norse history; Horgabost, Seilebost, Luskentyre and Scarista. Each one has its own special attributes but all are stunning. The famous Harris Tweed is still spun on the islands and many craft workers produce not only the raw cloth but clothing, purses, handbags and many other accessories and luxury gifts. You can get to the islands by plane or ferry. Flights are operated by Flybe and Eastern Airways from Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness, Benbecula and Barra. Caledonian MacBrayne operate all ferry routes from Ullapool, Leverburgh and Uig to Harris and Lewis. Check sailings and fares on www.calmac.co.uk.
