“Culkein Lodge was wonderful - a real home away from home.”

We felt so relaxed and very comfortable. The house was incredibly well-equipped - it had everything we needed and more ... + books galore! We never tired of looking out of the windows at the ever-changing scene and it was a real bonus when the inquisitive seals popped their heads out of the water. A wonderful break - would love to return!

The property

It is hard to imagine a more beautiful location than this remote and staggeringly picturesque setting on the north west coast of Scotland. Deer roam the land around and otters and seals swim in the water in front of the house. The location is idyllic and the quality of accommodation superb. Culkein Lodge has been recently refurbished and transformed into a gorgeous and luxurious waters-edge lodge, suitable for holidays throughout the year. New shower, kitchen, central heating and bathrooms will be much appreciated by those who loved Culkein Lodge before but were less enamoured of the temperamental water system! All gone now! The kitchen has slate floors and marble worktops and is fully equipped with all facilities. The dining table can seat eight very comfortably. This coastline is noted for its magnificent scenery and pristine, sandy beaches backed by what are regarded as some of the most stunning mountains in Scotland. Canoeing is possible in this quiet inlet and boats can be launched from outside the house. Bird watchers have the opportunity to visit Handa Island between May and September where it is possible to see the most magnificent cliffs, heavily populated with fulmars, guillemots, razor bills, puffins and gannets diving offshore and skuas dive bombing on land! Drumbeg has a hotel with bar open to the public, and there is one of the finest seafood restaurants in Scotland 20 minutes' drive away in Kylesku, from where boat trips leave to see the famous Eas a Chual Aluinn waterfall at the head of Loch Glencoul. Drumbeg also has a great wee tea and bacon roll takeaway cafe called 'Flossies' and the 'Tiny Tea Shop' and gift shop too.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £250.
