Very central to enjoy the beautiful white sands that are on the doorstep. The wild life keeps you entertained from the raised decking, various birds at least 7 different types on the feeders and the deer make the occasional show. Good views of Isle of Eigg and Rum. All in all a perfect holiday.

The views from the property were stunning, we had great weather and amazing sunsets. So much wildlife, young stags came down right in front of the window every night. Saw otters, sea eagles, cuckoos and much more. If you love the west coast of Scotland as we do then this property is ideal for a perfect stay exploring the beautiful area. The Property was lovely & clean, had all facilities we needed and very comfortable but it’s the location & the views which outshines all other places we have previously stayed in. • "We were thrilled with the location and the property itself."

I would describe it as a happy house, with personal touches, a nice level of design and texture, amazing views and all the items we needed to have a relaxed working holiday. The two level accomodation allowed us to have space to be apart or spend time together. There were plenty of games/jigsaws for wetter weather, and all the kitchen appliances to be able to cook and bake like you would at home. The drying room was very much appreciated, appliances top spec, underfloor heating very comfortable.

;-) House is very well equipped with high quality appliances and plenty of crockery and cutlery etc. The underfloor heating is a joy in the kitchen and the log burner upstairs makes the whole house very cosy indeed. Especially as the rain and sleet is bouncing off the windows. Great location with spectacular views! Definitely looking forward to returning in the future.

  • "We enjoyed our stay."

House was clean/comfortable but underwhelming. Everything was just a little tired, compared with some LHH properties we have stayed in. The views were stunning and the location was good for nearby beaches/dog walks (by car). The kitchen was very well stocked with gadgets. No welcome pack, which is unusual for an LHH property - would have been nice after problem getting into the property. I don’t think we’ll be back but we enjoyed our week.

All in all, it was an experience that was not worth travelling five miles for let alone five hundred. Most of all, we resent the implication that we were not telling the truth.

Dear Guest We are very sorry that your recent stay did not live up to your expectations or indeed the experience enjoyed by the majority of our visitors as expressed in the reviews below. Whilst I completely appreciate that you had difficulty in operating the window closing mechanism, what I cannot understand is why you didn't give me a quick telephone call when everything could have been explained and resolved in a matter of minutes. I am at a loss to explain that anyone implicated that you were not telling the truth........I'm afraid I couldn't locate your fuller list of complaints on Trustpilot. It has everything we needed and was just like a home from home. The only thing I would recommend would be an electric kettle as an option to the gas one as it takes so long to boil and is quite heavy to lift. A small thing really as everything else was perfect. At some stage would love to return here. Thank you to the owners for providing such a fabulous home!

Only suggestion is to the hand rail up to the door needs attention. Wooden handrail is missing revealing a rusty rail beneath. Hi James. I can now confirm that the hamd rail has been fixed and is once again safe.

  • "I just wanted to thank you for a fab weeks holiday."

The house is amazing. Having such wonderful views and the beach at the bottom of the drive was great. We managed to see the islands on day one and day seven - they were hiding most of the time. We also saw lots of wildlife and maybe an eagle (not sure). The house had everything we needed for a relaxing week away. It’s great to see so much crockery, glasses etc. The bed linen was also amazing. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t very kind to us but it didn’t stop us getting out and about - we just got a bit wet in the process. Thank you for a lovely week.

  • "Perfect location for exploring the area and no problems finding it."

It was a 5 minute walk to the beach which had great rock clambering for our 5yo and also lovely clear water for paddling. The view from the living room is epic, some evenings we all just sat and watched the sun set and the changing light over Rum. Wonderful. We visited Glenfinnan, took a trip on the MV Sheerwater to Eigg, went to Mallaig for lunch and the Co-op (insanely busy there due to the steam train), walked around the Rhu peninsula (to the beach and back) and spent lots of time on the beaches, Traig beaches were our fave. Best lunch we found was at Arisaig Marina, best evening meal we had was at the Old Library (essential to book). As for the house, it had nearly everything we needed/expected. There were 2 stand out things we were a little disappointed with, one was the toilet paper supplied, for a 6 person house, only 2 rolls of paper in each bathroom, so watch out! Luckily it's only a 5 minute drive to the Spar at Arisaig. The other thing was the size of the towels, with such a lovely bathroom I would have loved a full size bath towel to wrap up in after a bath . Not so bad in the Summer, but would even more surely miss this for the colder seasons. Other than that the kitchen has everything we needed for cooking for a family, games, and table tennis was a fabulous addition. The TV was a godsend in the morning to allow the grown-ups to have a lay-in, very slow internet though, we couldn't get any of the streaming services working so glad we brought a bunch of DVDs with us. I noticed in the description it mentions the steam train stopping at Arisaig, we were told it does not stop at Arisaig, the last stop before Mallaig is Glenfinnan. It's also very unlikely you will be able to get on here as it's generally fully booked! You can hear the express from all over the place though, we heard it a couple of times from the beach. LHH Response: We have asked the owner to supply bath sheets rather than bath towels. With regards to the toilet paper, we ask our owners to ensure there is a full roll in each bathroom as a starter. Guests are required to bring their own for the rest of the week.

  • "Well! What can we say?"

A beautiful house, amazing views and countryside and a great time had by all. We could look at that view all day, everyday, in any weather. A mixed week of weather but sunny spells too and amazing sunsets. Perfect! We took the Scotrail train from Arisaig to Fort William for a day when we knew it was going to be rainy - Good service and would recommend the wee museum in Fort William - Free!! and very very interesting and informative.

  • "We've had a lovely week in such a gorgeous house!"

The views especially in the evening have been glorious. It's been a week of mixed weather but we've still had plenty to do - trips to Rum, Knoydart, Glenfinnan and Skye. There have been lots of oppurtunities for running, cycling and even swimming, and when the weather wasn't so good - the Harry Potter box set (thank you!). We've certainly eaten very well - would recommend The Old Library in Arisaig, Andy Rae's for fresh fish, the Garden Cafe in Mallaig and the Forge on Knoydart. We've also indulged in lots of blackberries from the brambles down by the road! The area has been perfect and the house is fantastic - Thank you!

Tucked away within the hillsides of Arisaig, Lochaber in the Highlands, Star na Mara has easy access to a local sandy beach.

Perfect for families and suitable for those with limited mobility, this holiday home is an excellent base for any Highland getaway.

The feel is almost alpine as you approach this wonderful, white-painted holiday home, overlooking a local bay and the mountains beyond and with off-road parking.

Enter into a home that offers the maximum views, beginning with a contemporary fully furnished kitchen, where there are no worries about family meals being anything but perfection, and the same can be said for the beautiful wooden balcony and sitting area, allowing in the fresh breeze through sliding glass doors, and creating a perfect atmosphere to recline with a hot chocolate in an evening and watching the sun set over the distant Isle of Eigg.

Within this property you will find three bedrooms, each with a view to admire as you prepare for your day; first you will come to the ground-floor king-size, with seating area and storage, followed by a ground-floor twin room, perfect for children and with an accessible ground-floor family bathroom, and painted in pale and relaxing hues, before heading upstairs to find the third and final room, a king-size room with a sitting space as well as an opulent en-suite shower room perfect for freshening up in, along with sloping ceilings following the angular architecture of the house.

Upstairs you will also find the wonderful first-floor sitting room with a woodburning stove to warm your feet, and large windows to utilise the breath-taking scenery, a theme which is followed throughout the house and can also be seen in the open-plan kitchen/diner. When it comes to beaches, you really need look no further than the end of the garden; a large sandy beach is but a short walk from the property, with the mountains and islands dotted about the periphery.

You can picnic, walk your dog, beachcomb with the kids or even try out kayaking and wild swimming right on your doorstep!

For lovers of trains, Arisaig station can offer a steam-train ride in one of the most renowned tracks in the country, one where the Hogwarts express was filmed!

Within a short distance, there is a local convenience store, café and restaurant, however, if you travel a little further to Mallaig, you will be presented with a greater variety of options, as well as local galleries, craft shops and expansive white sand beaches.

From here you can get a boat trip for the day over to the isles of Eigg, Rùm, Muck and Skye.

In terms of historical and archaeological sites of interest, there are several to choose from, for example Castle Tioram.

Beautiful, remote and full of surprises just waiting to be discovered, you will fall in love with Scotland with a stay at Star na Mara.
