    “We stayed in this property set in the most beautiful location.”

    Sadly, on arrival this property was not clean. There was dirt and grime in every room, used cotton buds in the bathroom, the fridge had mould, the oven was filthy, I had to clean every surface, vacuum all the floors before we could even unpack. I have images of this. An unsatisfactory offer of £75 from the owner as compensation. LHH the booking agent also very unhelpful. In 15 years of booking cottages in the UK this is my first negative experience. Such a shame.

The property

If you are searching for a rustic log cabin, close to the sea and mountains, offering a hot tub, then look no further! An Nead is tucked away, off a single track road and with the most magnificent views to Quinag Mountain. Built in the 1970's, the cabin has retained the old Highland holiday home charm whilst incorporating 21st century luxuries such as a wood fired wooden hot tub. The focus here is definitely on outdoor living with a large wrap-around deck, fire basket, outdoor dining table and barbecue. The deck overlooks the sea and the surrounding woodland, so rich in wildlife and bird life - in fact, the badgers have a regular route up through the garden and can frequently be seen. Deer roam the surrounding hills and in Autumn the sound of the 'rut' is tremendous. Sunsets are spectacular, as are sunrises, and if you are there in the winter you may be treated to a spectacular display of Northern Lights. Once inside you can curl up on one of the deep sofas, watch a movie or browse through the extensive book collection. The house is fully equipped for 6 but most suited to 4 adults and 2 children in the bunk beds. For hot tub enthusiasts, the wood-fired, wooden hot tub provides a special outdoor experience and also serves, when unheated, as a cold plunge, which, we are assured, gets the day off to a good start!

About the location

DRUMBEG

Nedd 1 mile; Lochinver 14 miles; Ullapool 39 miles.

The pretty village of Drumbeg is located about half way along the Lochinver to Kylesku B869 coast road, an area of dramatic natural beauty and wonderful sea views. The village itself boasts some local services including a village shop and a hotel with lively pub and restaurant. Drumbeg village can be approached from two directions either via the coastal road leading up from Lochinver or by the very pretty and winding road branching off from the A89. In addition to the spectacular coastline the area has magnificent mountains, fantastic wildlife and numerous fishing lochs which provide wild brown trout fly fishing. Permits can be obtained locally from the hotel for as little as £5 per day. The much larger village of Lochinver is 14 miles away and has a grocery shop, restaurants and hotels. A superb touring base.
