“We’ve enjoyed another lovely holiday at Spindrift.”

It feels like home when we arrive, very comfortable and well appointed. Andy and Jen are a lovely couple who are on hand if needed and very friendly. We hope to be back next year.

The property

Spindrift is a traditional Lewis cottage which has been totally renovated and refurbished and completed in June 2019. The cottage is situated in the most dramatic of locations with immense views south and west across the Atlantic. On a fine day it is possible to see St Kilda. Remote and secluded, this is a cottage to head off to if you are looking for peace and quiet and the chance to experience what it is like to be out on the edge of an island. However, just a 15 minute drive away is Timsgarry, the hub of the area, where you will find a superb restaurant, Uig Sands Restaurant, a well stocked community store and fuel station and a community cafe, where there is also an excellent little museum. The beaches at Uig are a collection of immense sandy bays with the most startlingly turquoise sea. It was here that the famous Lewis Chessmen were found. Breanish is a good place to head off into the Uig Hills and here you can really get into the wilds. The hills link up with the North Harris hills and there are endless routes to explore and we suspect that you may not meet another soul! Bird watching is rewarding with the opportunity of not only seeing the much talked about Sea Eagles and Golden Eagles, but also many smaller, lesser known and sometimes rare birds blown off course with the Atlantic storms. The cottage offers a haven of tranquillity and a place to remember for all the right reasons. The islands can be reached by flights from Edinburgh, Glasgow or Inverness; or by ferry from Uig on Skye to Tarbert, or Ullapool to Stornoway.
