“Immaculate and well equipped cottage in a beautiful location next to Dalbeg beach.”

The cottage was stunning and extremely comfortable and there were lovely welcoming touches from the owners such as home baked bread. Dalbeg is in a good location for visits to Calanais standing stones and within reasonable driving distance to Uig sands and Stornoway, the scenery on Isle of Lewis is amazing. The owners Lesley and Alistair were extremely helpful and friendly but not at all intrusive. We had a wonderfully relaxing holiday and we would highly recommend this property and location.

“We have stayed in many different cottages during our holidays, but the Beach Cottage really is the best!”

Every day we were blown away by the wonderful view through the flowers to the sea, the hills and the loch covered with lily pads. Of course we were also happy to be entertained by the hustle and bustle of the sheep. The cottage is very well equipped and the rooms are very spacious and beautifully decorated (also with the owners' pictures) in keeping with the surroundings and their mood. It is a very good base for exploring Lewis and Harris. But after every trip, we looked forward to "our" home away from home! The owners are very helpful and hospitable. We were really spoiled there during our two week stay! We will come back for sure! Many many thanks! Susanne & Markus

On arrival, we thought that the property was outstanding and nothing happened in our week to change our minds. Or hosts Lesley and Alisdair could not have been more welcoming and helpful. For example a phone call came from them to tell us to get down to the Bay as dolphins were at play there. The location is simply fantastic, with superb views in every direction. The layout, furnishings, and accessories in the property were all first class. We would have no hesitation in giving our highest recommendations to Beach Cottage. Thank you both

It’s a fantastic design with large picture windows and very spacious and airy. The kitchen is extremely well kitted out and has pretty much everything one could need. Lesley’s home made bread added a very nice touch and it was great to be able to pop next door to the gallery to see the owners’ amazing work. The Property is situated just by one of the most beautiful beaches we’ve ever seen. Would undoubtedly recommend this property for a fantastic holiday on the wonderful Isle of Lewis. We are very keen to plan our return visit.

“Absolutely stunning cottage in a beautiful location!”

The house was so clean, spacious and comfortable, and well equipped with everything we needed. Comfy bed, nice big bath, hot powerful shower, luxury furnishings and high end appliances. We spent a lot of time just sitting in the two comfy chairs enjoying the views from the huge glass windows! Nice to be able to walk straight from the door down to the beach and up on to the cliff tops. A good base to explore Lewis and Harris, but most importantly to come back and relax in. Lesley and Alisdair were welcoming and helpful, and thank you for the delicious homemade shortbread and loaf of bread still warm when we arrived! We had a lovely week on the islands and this cottage was the loveliest place to relax and enjoy our honeymoon!

“We have returned from our stay at Beach Cottage and Lesley could not have been more helpful.”

The property itself was perfect for us as a couple. The situation of the cottage, alongside the loch and facing out to Dalbeg beach and the sea was amazing. We particularly liked the layout of the cottage which was spacious, airy and very light throughout. Having Lesley and Alisdair next door together with their stunning art gallery was a real bonus. We had a wonderful stay on Lewis and Harris travelling the island from north to south we were always thrilled to be coming back to the gorgeous Beach Cottage!

“Absolutely magical.”

What a brilliant apartment and fabulous location, best in Lewis and Harris in our opinion. Felt so rested and spoilt here. The beaches are amazing and Lesley and Alasdair are wonderful hosts who clearly love their home. Their art gallery is lovely and we bought lots of pieces. Located well on the west coast of Lewis, you can cycle to Carloway and see 2 main attractions and more nice beaches (dalbeig is easily the beat though!). Just thank you so much. This stay was just what we needed and we’d love to return.

The cottage has all the mod cons and is very comfortable. The location is very picturesque and very quiet. The beach is clean and isolated and there is a very good walk up the hill to the ridge. This is the place to be to unwind and recharge your internal battery.

From the welcome from the owners to the idyllic location. Very few holiday cottages offer instant access to a fabulous beach, or walks straight on to headlands with stunning views. Everything you could possibly need is provided, with delicious home baking as a wonderful extra! Highly recommend this excellent cottage.

Words cannot express how perfect it is! The design, the location and facilities provided are second to none. Lesley and Alisdair have thought of everything to ensure you have 5-star accommodation - and then some!!! They are brilliant hosts who are there when you need them and invisible at other times. Alisdair's microtour of the croft was so enjoyable. His knowledge and enthusiasm are infectious. Lesley's shortbread is the best we've ever tasted - thank you for the recipe and the demo. A visit to their gallery is a must.

We have loved every minute on the islands especially returning to Beach Cottage and sanctuary! "Lesley and Alisdair, you have created the most perfect place to stay and recharge your batteries. “Firstly, what is clearly evident is how much both Lesley and Alisdair think of EVERYTHING to make their guests' stay perfect!”

From the bread and shortbread on arrival to the scones left at our door to their amazing welcome and friendly nature. We have had the holiday of a lifetime. L&A state in the info sheet that Dalbeg is the best place on the planet and we have to agree! Watching the sheep, the view, the amazing house (that is beautifully created) but the sunset on an evening on the beach is a memory we will treasure forever. This place is our piece of heaven and we will def return. Thank you. Thank you for reminding us of the important things in life.

“Beautiful house in a stunning setting.”

Panoramic views of loch, croft and beach, especially loved the waves crashing from the Atlantic on to the sea stack which dominates Dalbeg bay. This house has everything you could ever need for a relaxing holiday and Alisdair and Lesley could not be more helpful. What a talented couple. We loved the gallery showcasing all their work and couldn't resist a couple of mementos to go with the goody bag. Super holiday.

Beach Cottage is a delight for the senses; visually magnificent, spectacularly located, luxuriously appointed, but just breathe deep the fresh sea breezes for a truly detoxifying and enriching rest. Everything about this house is about light, colour and space but nowhere more so than in the main social room, which is breathtaking. Nothing prepares you for the moment you step inside this fabulous creation. If your passion is for contemporary clean lines, ultra luxurious furnishings and exquisite attention to detail, in even the smallest feature, then this is the one for you. The view to the sea is mesmerising and hard to capture in words or photographs. Comfort has also been at the forefront of the owner's mind in the creation of this special cottage. The house throughout has, despite being for just 2, been fully provided for all you need for a really enjoyable and comfortable stay. If you have friends staying on the island elsewhere then it's no problem to ask them to dinner and you will find entertaining for four quite easy. The owners of the cottage have an art gallery in their house next door Beach Cottage occupies a location so close to Dalbeg beach that you can just pack up the picnic hamper provided for you and head on down with rugs and dine on the shore - usually with no one else around. Nestled between the owner's house, small art gallery and Loch Cottage, (another 5 star cottage owned by the same owners and let by LHH), Beach Cottage could also be the quiet retreat for Grandparents, with their family occupying Loch Cottage. If you can tear yourself away from this unique cottage, in its magnificent setting, the area has plenty to offer and there is easy access to all areas of Lewis. Harris is under an hour drive and Stornoway under half an hour. Beaches, archaeological sites and wildlife are all easily seen or visited with the 2 most famous, Callanish Stones and Carloway Broch being very close. Luxury awaits you and we know that you will not be disappointed. Next door to the cottage is the owner's 'small but perfectly formed' art gallery to which you are welcome to visit. Please note: Beach Cottage has been created very much with the couple in mind and has not been designed to accommodate a baby or toddler. The islands can be reached by flights from Edinburgh, Glasgow or Inverness; or by ferry from Uig on Skye to Tarbert, or Ullapool to Stornoway. EPC Rating: Band C

About the location

BORVE, ISLE OF LEWIS

Stornoway 26.7 miles

Borve is a village resting on the western side of the Isle of Lewis, close to the island’s main town of Stornoway. Reached by two adjacent bridges, it nestles on the River Borve and its name is derived from the old Norse word ‘borg’ meaning fort. It is known for the Clan Macquarrie rescue in 1953 when a Clan Line vessel ran aground in terrible gales and local men from the village rescued all 66 crew members. In recognition of the villagers’ bravery Clan Line donated funds for the construction of a village hall. There is a convenience store here and the Borve House Hotel great for stopping off for refreshment and a bite to eat. Just outside Borve there are loads of visitor attractions including the Butt of Lewis lighthouse and the Port of Ness Slipway and Breakwater which both offer breath-taking views over the ocean and beyond. Ness Historical Society offers a fascinating insight into the culture and history of the island and Stornoway is a short drive from the village which has a good selection of shops, cafes, galleries and restaurants and is the gateway to the exploring the rest of the Outer Hebrides.
