  • "Beautiful house with an amazing view."

We had the most wonderful Christmas. The area where the house is located is beautiful. Highly recommended.

  • "Taigh Na Carr is a stunning modern house in a beautiful location."

It was a perfect base for us to explore the peninsula south of Loch Alsh and only a 40 minute drive from the Skye bridge. The road through Letterfearn terminates in a lovely walk around a wee bay full of seals which gives you a view of Eilean Donan Castle that most tourists don't get. Carry on and you will discover a ruined broch and a tough hill climb which rewards you with beautiful views up Loch Alsh all the way to the bridge. In this part of the world, you can always be unlucky with the weather (we were for most of the week we were there) but if you remember "there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing" you should be fine. And when it was really chucking it down, Taigh Na Carr was a well-appointed, relaxing base with all the creature comforts including a cracking fireplace with plenty of wood in the shed. The WiFi in the house is really not good and the TV is small so if you like to watch a movie at night, take your own film and playing device. The best thing we did was to organise a boat trip via Seaprobe Atlantis that picked us up on the salmon farm jetty 300 yards down the road and took us all the way to the Applecross Inn for dinner and back. Highly recommended (but not cheap!).

  • "This is a superb property in an idyllic location."

We had the most wonderful week and in the main this was due to the tranquil and comfortable accommodation. We would highly recommend this property to anyone wishing to visit the area.

  • "Although the house is beautiful, the customer service and lack of responsiveness was horrible."

The wifi was not working and we reached out numerous times to the numbers provided and to sykes and no one responded. We needed to do some work from the cottage and that was made impossible. It was very frustrating.

  • "An outstanding property in a breath taking location."

If you need some down time there is no better place to take it. A legacy LHH property but I have to say that the service we received from Skye’s was excellent. Eileen, Glasgoe

  • "We had a wonderful week at Taigh na Carr."

The house is amazing in an incredible setting. It is hard to find high quality pet-free places to stay in the UK at times and also very hard to find places that suit our modern/minimalist taste - we loved the design, fixtures and fittings in this house and it meant we didn’t go very far all week! This side of Loch Duich is a place we haven’t explored before and we would love to come back - in fact we would have re-booked straight away for next year if we could, but sadly it looks unavailable for the foreseeable future. Our young son loved the resident pine martens and badgers and all the other local wildlife. Walks along the loch were lovely and quiet. We were blessed with unbroken warm sunny weather at the start of our stay and it did make the house unbearably hot (due to all the glazing running along the roof, even with all the skylights open). This would be our only negative point.

  • "Lovely house in great location - although internal drainage was odd."

There was two of us staying although room for four and obviously we had paid the full amount. There as no chance of any unexpected guests though as only towels for each person with none extra for kitchen or downstairs shower room - this seemed rather mean and unnecessary.

  • "Our holiday at Taigh na Carr was exceptional from booking to leaving."

Communication with the LHH team was tremendous during pandemic circumstances when everything was up in the air. They dealt with the swift transition of an Easter break, which became and impossibility due to national lockdown, to an autumnal break which brought with it rainbows and waterfalls in abundance! The cottage was pristine clean and cosy. Modern in every respect from the comfortable sofa and toasty log burner to the clean cut kitchen, cupboards and work surfaces. If you like architecture and attention to detail, Taigh na Carr has it all. The week was largely rainy but this didn't detract from the fact that from every angle, the view was breathtaking. From opening the curtains in the morning and viewing the golden eagle up the hill, to closing the shutters in the evening and not wanting to miss a moment of the pine marten and badger, we loved our time here. We needed to check up with the owners and the housekeeper on a couple of occasions and they were more than helpful. Really lovely people. We will definitely be returning to this wonderful holiday home with the best view ever. We're really grateful to LHH for keeping things ticking over so well for those holidaying in the Highlands. It has been a challenging year for travellers and businesses alike, and we'd like to point out that we have had nothing but great experiences with LHH over the ten years or more that we've been holidaying with them. Thank you for your support in negotiating dates with the owners to ensure we still had our holiday. You did your very best for us. We know it's been a tricky time for small businesses and especially those in the travel industry, but we'll stick by you always as no other company comes close. We hope others enjoy Taigh na Carr as much as our family did.

  • "A lovely new modern light and airy property."

An important part of us choosing a holiday home is the view and this was obscured by the trees in front of the house. The many creatures visiting the decking was a definite highlight. Love this area although the weather was not kind to us.

About the location

GLENELG

Shiel Bridge 9 miles; Skye 46.2 miles; Uig 68.9 miles; Broadford 29.2 miles.

Just ten miles from the main route to the Isle of Skye, the small coastal village of Glenelg lies on the shores of the Sound of Sleat, surrounded by scenery deemed magnificent even by West Highland standards. The glen has preserved its unspoilt beauty and sense of isolation, yet remains within easy reach of the more well-known centres of attraction in the area. Overlooking the Isle of Skye, it is situated on the route once used by drovers from Skye to get their cattle to the mainland, crossing over the narrow Kyle Rhea straits. A couple of miles from the village on the Arnisdale road you will find Sandaig bay, named "Camusfearna" by Gavin Maxwell in his novel Ring of Bright Water, and where there is a cairn for his beloved otter Edal. Glenelg also has the best preserved Pictish Brochs on mainland Scotland. The ruins of Bernera Barracks, an 18th Century garrison for English government troops, still stand next to the village.
