  • "The cottage was just what we wanted."

It had everything and was very comfortable. It is positioned roughly central so was pretty easy to get everywhere on the island. Everything was of a good standard. From the cosy coal fire to the wifi. We would definitely return when passing this way again.

Everything is high quality, the kitchen is fully equipped with everything you would need and the cottage is full of little touches to make it a home away from home. Owners are really friendly and helpful and we would definitely visit here again.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Dunraven."

The cottage was clean, very comfortable and had everything we needed for a week self-catering in Lewis. The kitchen is very well equipped including a range cooker. The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable and the double bedroom has a fabulous en-suite wet room. We found Dunraven to be the perfect base to explore the delights of Lewis and Harris and would definitely stay there again the next time we're visiting the islands.

  • "Very comfortable and well equipped cottage in a peaceful location with beautiful views."

It was easy to visit as far as the Butt of Lewis in the north and down to Harris in the south and lots in between on day trips. The welcome items were much appreciated.

  • "Overall a very nice and comfortable cottage."

The beds could be wider and the heating system could need an upgrade, we just turned the heater off every day, it was simply too hot, but a winter/summer automatic would be nice.

Accommodation was lovely, very clean and well presented! Plenty of amenities and all the essential utilities! The owner was very helpful and available for any questions we had!

  • "Lovely well appointed cottage in convenient location for exploring both Lewis and Harris."

Has beautiful views across the loch. Suggestions for improvement would be around the crockery (quality is good but only 6 plates) and similarly quantity of cutlery. The knives/peeler aren't very sharp. No cloths apart from one sponge. The limited pack of 6 dishwasher tablets looks miserly and is unnecessary (we're not going to waste them). So basically cottage is very good but a little bit let down by the kitchen equipment. Could also do with a footstool in the lounge.

  • "We had (for our 3rd time on Lewis) a great holiday – with sunny weather!"

The cottage is well placed for touring the Isle. Being relatively central it’s within easy reach for Stornaway and with good runs to UIG, Ness and Tarbet. The cottage is excellent and was well appointed and our only comment is could there be more detailed instructions about how to turn the heating/boiler down/off. It was very warm. This year for the first time we visited Lews Museum which we think is great, informative and highly relevant to the people and culture of Lewis.

The property

Stornoway 12 miles.

Enjoying a superb setting alongside the picturesque Loch Erisort, on the east coast of the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, is this attractive detached cottage.

Ideal for families or couples travelling together, the cottage offers extremely well-presented accommodation and whilst it is suitably remote it still offers easy access to a wealth of activities, making it the perfect location.

Inside, there is a warm and welcoming sitting room with beautiful furniture positioned around a wonderful open fire and a feature window showcasing some incredible views of the nearby loch.

This is an especially appealing spot and is somewhere where you can chill out with friends and loved ones, get warm and cosy by the fire and take in the ever-changing panoramic views from the windows.

If you’re feeling peckish then step into the stylish, fully fitted kitchen which has everything you could possibly need to rustle up some fantastic food for your holiday party.

Leading off from the kitchen is an elegant dining area with a rustic dining table, all set up ready for you to sit down, enjoy some communal dining time and make the most of spending quality holiday memories together.

The bedrooms are wonderfully appointed with stylish furnishings adding a chic finishing touch to the rooms.

The master bedroom has French doors opening onto a patio area and a sumptuous en-suite shower room, making it the perfect place to wake up in the morning.

The adjoining double bedroom is just as attractive a space to spend time in and once again has stunning views from the windows.

The cottage is as charming outside as it is on the outside with fenced gardens and a slate patio area, so take your pick of what views you want to take in, grab a drink (and maybe a jumper – this is Scotland after all!) and breathe in that intoxicating Hebridean air and relax; this is what holidays are made of.

Getting out and about is a must when you’re staying at Dunraven with a whole host of activities on the doorstep.

Take a walk along the Hebridean Way, a 200 mile stretch of some of the most beautiful scenery you’ll find anywhere and a great way to immerse yourself in the islands’ culture while getting some fresh air.

If you want to find out about the wealth of wildlife on the islands then pay a visit to North Harris Eagle Observatory, Bunavoneader Whaling Station and the Callanish Alpacas, all less than an hour’s drive from the cottage.

Tarbert is just a short distance away and Stornoway is also nearby and both are well worth a visit.

A lochside retreat awaits with a visit to Dunraven.

The islands can be reached by flights from Edinburgh, Glasgow or Inverness; or by ferry from Uig on Skye to Tarbert, or Ullapool to Stornoway.

About the location

STORNOWAY

Arnol 14.5 miles; Callanish Stones 16 miles.

Stornoway is the only town in the Outer Hebrides and is a bustling and growing area with a busy working harbour, a great selection of shops selling local gifts including Harris Tweed, leisure facilities and wonderful award-winning restaurants selling locally sourced food of the highest quality. Lewis is a place where the lilting Gaelic language is spoken everywhere! Visitors to the town will find plenty to keep them occupied, the magnificent Lews Castle Grounds and the iconic Lews Castle, many good museums and art galleries and also a smart golf course and clubhouse. The large, quiet sandy beaches are close by and provide visitors with wonderful views and the town itself forms a great base for a holiday exploring the unique islands that form the Outer Hebrides. On the north west side of Lewis you can visit the village of Arnol with its Blackhouse Museum, an unmissable visit for anyone wanting to understand the way of life that was once widespread in Lewis. Carloway Broch is nearby and is another fascinating landmark and incredibly well preserved. The Callanish Stones from the Neolithic are also well worth visiting. The whalebone arch and numerous Iron Age dwellings on stunning Bosta beach make for great days out. The friendliness of the local people will astound visitors to the islands and you cannot fail to be impressed with the genteel and contented pace of life you will encounter here.
