  • Mrs Bradley

    “A perfect, well equipped cottage.”

We especially enjoyed the beautiful beaches South of Ardroil. The garden is safe for dogs as the entrance gate is kept closed. We saw sea eagles and a deer nearby! There is now recycling information and a file with manuals for all appliances, including the central heating.

The property

7B and 7A are two gorgeous Hebridean cottages which can be let either individually or together. 7B sleeps 2 and has private parking. The Uig Sands are some of the most dramatic in the Outer Hebrides - certainly on a par with Luskentyre on Harris. Regardless of the time of year, the drama of this coastline can be enjoyed. The cottages are so close to the famous Ardroil beach (where the Lewis Chessmen were found) as to be a lovely stroll down. Just 2 miles from the cottages is the Uig Community Shop which is well stocked and where petrol and diesel can be purchased. The community centre, open in the holiday seasons, has a fascinating museum and the associated cafe sells the most amazing cakes and ice-cream as well as delicious lunches. Just 15 minutes drive to Miavaig Harbour ensures that you can purchase freshly landed seafood and hand dived scallops in the season. Beach lovers have a choice of 24 beaches on the Uig peninsula, each one a gem in its own right. Hill walkers can enjoy those amazing Uig Hills, not very far from Ardroil, and whisky lovers will be delighted to find the small Abhainn Dearg distillery now producing the first Isle of Lewis malt whisky. Whatever your holiday plans, 7B will always give you a warm welcome home. The islands can be reached by flights from Edinburgh, Glasgow or Inverness; or by ferry from Uig on Skye to Tarbert, or Ullapool to Stornoway. EPC Rating: Band F

About the location

UIG ISLE OF LEWIS

Great Bernera 23.2. miles; Stornoway 35.9 miles; Callanish 20.5 miles.

Uig is a village resting on the edge of Uig Bay on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis and takes its name from the Norse word for ‘bay’. It is known for its rugged landscapes and attractive sand dunes with stunning views over the Atlantic. Attractions include the beautiful beaches of Valtos Peninsula and Mealista Beach plus refreshing walks along Berie and Ardroil sands, which are both rich in history (ancient hut circles have been discovered here by archaeologists and the famous Lewis Chessmen were found here) and more modern activities such as kiteboarding and windsurfing. Dining options include the impressive Uig Sands restaurant (in season) or head to the Uig Community Cafe which serves a great selection of food. There is also a distillery here at Abhainn Dearg. You can stock up on essentials at the Uig Community Shop. Just outside of the village is nearby Miavaig Pier where visitors can take boat trips to outlying islands.

Note: Though electricity is included in the rent, charging for electric cars is not included in the rental. Note: The gardens are not enclosed. Note: The property can be let together with next door (7a) for parties of 6. Note: Please bear in mind that this property is located on an island and therefore only accessible by plane or ferry.
