  • Mr Whittington

“The location of this cottage is ideal.”

It's a short walk to the beach, and this part of Lewis offers several very enjoyable walks (mountains, coast, ...). No need to drive very far. And the shop (<5 mins drive) is very well stocked, so self-catering works well.

The property

7A and 7B are two Hebridean cottages which can be let either individually or together. 7A, which accommodates 4, is certainly large enough and adequately equipped to be able to accommodate 6 adults for dining and relaxing in the evening. The cottages are so close to the famous Ardroil beach, where the Lewis Chessmen were found, as to be a lovely stroll down. The Uig Sands are some of the most dramatic in the Outer Hebrides - certainly on a par with Luskentyre in Harris. Regardless of the time of year, the drama of this coastline can be enjoyed. Just 2 miles from the cottages is the Uig Community shop which is well stocked and where petrol and diesel can be bought. The Community Centre has a small but fascinating museum and a cafe selling the most amazing cakes and ice-cream as well as lunches. Beach fanatics have a choice of 24 beaches on the Uig peninsula alone, each one a gem in its own right. Riof Beach won a 2018 accolade of being one of the best beaches in the world! Hill walkers will of course head for those amazing Uig Hills, not very far from Ardroil, and whisky lovers will be delighted to find the small Abhainn Dearg distillery now producing the first Isle of Lewis malt whisky. Whatever your holiday plans, 7A Ardroil will always give you a warm welcome home. Fly from Edinburgh, Inverness and Glasgow or travel by ferry from Sky to Tarbert or Ullapool to Stornoway to reach this property. EPC Rating: Band F

About the location

UIG ISLE OF LEWIS

Great Bernera 23.2. miles; Stornoway 35.9 miles; Callanish 20.5 miles.

Uig is a village resting on the edge of Uig Bay on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis and takes its name from the Norse word for ‘bay’. It is known for its rugged landscapes and attractive sand dunes. Attractions include the beautiful beaches of Valtos Peninsula and Mealista Beach plus refreshing walks along Berie and Ardroil sands, which are both rich in history (ancient hut circles have been discovered here by archaeologists and the famous Lewis Chessmen were found here) and more modern activities such as kiteboarding and windsurfing. Dining options include the impressive Uig Sands restaurant (in season) or head to the Uig Community Cafe which serves a great selection of food. There is also a distillery here at Abhainn Dearg. You can stock up on essentials at the Uig Community Shop. Just outside of the village is nearby Miavaig Pier where visitors can take boat trips to outlying islands.

Note: Though electricity is included, charging for electric cars is not included in the rental. Note: Can be rented with the cottage next door (7b) for parties of 6. Note: Please bear in mind that this property is located on an island and therefore only accessible by plane or ferry.
