  • "We had a week of fairly wild weather and Taigh Gorm felt like such a haven from the elements."

It was so well appointed (even better than the pictures) and well equipped. Baleshare is a beautiful island and Taigh Gorm is perfectly located to explore the outer Hebrides. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the house to others. Thanks for a wonderful stay

Quality products & decor. Walking distance to amazing beach. Loved watching the spring lambs in the croft next door. Would happily return & recommend.

  • "I travel in the Highlands & Islands of Scotland extensively and when I book late year holidays (November) I choose properties that I fondly refer to as "Plan B" By this I mean if the weather is lousy then I can always pack a few books to read in luxury accommodation."

Unfortunately, the weather WAS lousy and Taigh Gorm WAS a haven and oasis of luxury! However, I managed to get one day of walking in, and what a day. Glorious sunshine, no wind and just wearing a fleece, I hiked up Rueval for the most spectacular walk I have ever had in the Highlands & Islands in 5 years. I will e-mail you photos after submitting this feedback!

  • "We spent three unforgettable weeks in this cozy and well furnished cottage on the beautiful island of Uist."

The cottage is ideal for discovering the whole island from Berneray to Eriskay. Every day we were happy to come back to our little blue house. In addition to the wonderful view from every window, we were able to observe numerous birds and rabbits. We were also happy about the calves and the lovely little lamb in the neighboring field. The beautiful and interesting hikes through moorland and the countless dream beaches make Uist one of our favorite places. We will definitely come back!

A delightful place to stay and would return like a shot. In fact, very impressed with LHH generally. This was our first stay and would highly recommend both the company and the property.

The property

Balivanich 12.5 miles.

Mountains and beaches surround this new-build cottage, built in 2019 to reflect both the stunning scenery and a traditional Scottish lodge situated in Baleshare, near Balivanich on the Isle of North Uist in the Outer Hebrides.

Perfect for families or groups of adults, this cottage offers a spectacular base for your Hebridean adventures with a homely and quirky take on a traditional cottage.

After being welcomed by the stylish blue painted wooden exterior, find your way into the spacious open-plan living space, furnished with ANTA and Laura Ashley to add a feel of opulence, whilst wooden Hebridean Heritage tongue and groove panelling on the internal walls and wooden flooring complement a set of French windows opening onto the wilderness beyond.

With such beauty and heritage, it is easy to see why this single-storey cottage won the 2020 Build It awards. Why not get a hot drink after your journey and recline in one of the tasteful sofas, or flick on the oven and create a culinary delight in the amply fitted kitchen space, serving your tasty dish on the dining table equipped with views of the bay only a short walk from the cottage?

When leaving the living area, you will find a wall seat painted in a homely dark blue, fitted with coat hangers.

As the evening progresses, relax in one of the two bedrooms on offer; a twin with contemporary furnishings and artwork reflecting the local area and a king-size fitted with a chair, wardrobe, wall mounted smart TV, en-suite shower room and so there are no queues for a refreshing evening shower, there is a second shower room.

With such a beautiful property, it is clear how you could get lost in the breath-taking scenery of the Isle of North Uist, however there are many places to explore.

The hills of the Isle of North Uist welcome hikers and mountain bikers to their rugged terrain, whilst the local beach, sporting white sand and beautiful stretches of clear water, is only a short walk from the cottage, as well as less immediate but equally as stunning beaches such as Clachan Sands, where you can take to the waves in a kayak, or recline reading in the sunshine whilst taking in the fresh sea air.

If fishing is one of your favourite pastimes, then you are able to fish locally for brown trout, or you can enjoy a wonderful countryside walk.

If you plan to explore further afield, you are close to both Lochmaddy and Berneray ferry terminal, with easy access to the Isle of Lewis where sandy beaches and local history are waiting to be explored.

Locally you can enjoy the abundance of wildlife including otters at the bay, ringed plover, and wintering turnstone.

Within 13 miles you will find several pubs and restaurants, including Berneray Bistro and The Stepping Stone Restaurant as well as MacLennans Supermarket where you can stock up on essentials.

Fly from Glasgow to Benbecula or sail from Skye to Lochmaddy to reach this property. Make a holiday to remember with a stay at Taigh Gorm.
