“We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Croft 23 and were fortunate to have mostly dry weather.”

The house is comfortable and provides plenty of space, and facilities and equipment are of good quality. The garden is large and perfect for the 3 dogs that were with us as it is fully enclosed. The house is comfortable and provides plenty of space, and facilities and equipment are of good quality. The garden is large and perfect for the 3 dogs that were with us as it is fully enclosed. We were fortunate to see some stunning sunsets from the living room window and garden with the Hebrides as a backdrop and is a sight to behold if you are lucky with the weather. The house is a perfect base to explore the area and a comfortable retreat to return to. Our friends and family who used the upstairs rooms found them comfortable and very spacious however did find the bathrooms on the small side and the showers over bath precarious to use at times due to slipping and no hand holds or bath mats. The only other issues we had were with regard to facilities for those with mobility problems and heat in the bedrooms. My wife requires a wheeled walker to mobilise and whilst accessibility is generally very good she found the walk-in shower in the downstairs en-suite very difficult to use. There was nothing for her to hold on to, no tray for bottles etc and no shower mat. We did use suction grab handles but these cannot be used to fully weight bear if required. This is a minor issue and I have contacted Laura, the owner, who has kindly agreed to look into this issue. I have to add that communication with Laura was first class and the welcome document provides very detailed information with which to plan your stay. One other minor issue is heat within the house when the weather is warm, especially the bedrooms. A fan in each room would be most welcome. Overall I would highly recommend this house and we would be happy to return in future.

The property

Croft 23 is a beautifully situated holiday home in an outstanding location close to the coastline and with magnificent views stretching from the mountains of Torridon in the east and across the sea to Skye and Harris in the west. The house is surrounded by traditional crofting land and activities and, at certain times of the year, it is fascinating to watch the sheep gathered in for shearing. Located on the peaceful, picturesque, west coast of Scotland this house sits perfectly in its surroundings. The contemporary design provides flexible, spacious accommodation over two levels and has a light and airy feel. The magnificent glass atrium, which is flooded with natural light, creates a pleasant indoor-outdoor feel. It is even possible, on those stunning, clear, dark sky nights to watch the stars from the warmth of this lovely room. The sitting room has three sets of patio doors which ensures this room is also light and airy but the wood burning stove and underfloor heating ensure that it is also deliciously warm. South Erradale is an idyllic coastal crofting community famous for its superb scenery, white sandy beaches, wide open spaces and diverse wildlife. Croft 23 has been thoughtfully equipped and furnished with the holiday maker in mind which ensures a comfortable and relaxing stay in this truly beautiful house and area.

GAIRLOCH

Dingwall 58.6 miles; Applecross 60.7 miles; Skye 97.3 miles.

The thriving Wester Ross community of Gairloch is made up of the villages and hamlets around Loch Gairloch - the village of Gairloch being the largest of the settlements overlooking the Loch. The area provides spectacular scenery, with unforgettable sunsets across the Minch to the Western Isles and the dramatic backdrop of the Torridon Mountains to the south. There is plenty too for the visitor to enjoy; clean sandy beaches, porpoises and seals in the Loch, fishing boats in the harbour, boat trips to the Isle of Skye, a superb golf course, opportunities for fishing and pony trekking, and some of the best and most varied walking in Scotland! Dining options include The Shieling, and you can stock up on essentials at the local McColl’s convenience store. If you wish to know more about the town’s history, head over to Gairloch Museum or explore Sand Archaeological Trail. To top it all, there are lots of different places to wine and dine around the Loch. A superb base for a holiday!
