  • Mr Gilmour

“Katie’s cottage is in a stunning location on one of the best beaches on Harris We managed to explore the whole of Harris & Lewis from this base, getting to all points north, sout, east & west easily every day during the week of our stay.”

The cottage is very well equipped, very comfortable, secure for the dog and we’d happily stay here again.

The property

Katie's Cottage is one of three cottages reached by a 30 minute drive along one of the most spectacular roads in Harris. Travelling through the hills and lochs, even having to pass through a castle grounds, you finally arrive to the most breath-taking scene of white sands and turquoise sea lapping up just below three cottages. This really is a dream location and one which will leave you with memories for a lifetime. The sea and island views are tremendous and there are 2 other beaches in walking distance. For those seeking a remote and peaceful holiday Huisinis may be the answer. The cottage has been newly renovated and completed in Spring 2019 and has 3 bedrooms sleeping five. It is a traditional house but with a contemporary interior and all modern conveniences. The cottage has Wi-Fi and there is mobile phone reception but, as with all remote areas this can suffer outages. We don't imagine you would be coming all this way to spend time on the internet as the area has so much to offer if you are willing to explore! The Harris Hills are challenging but rewarding and the coastal walks go for miles. The bay is suitable for windsurfing and diving and being almost on the beach the cottage is ideal for launching kayaks without having to transport them. The house is warmed by oil central heating and logs are supplied for the fire which is just supplementary as the oil central heating warms the house thoroughly. Come and escape to the cottage on the beach, you'll love it. The islands can be reached by flights from Edinburgh, Glasgow or Inverness; or by ferry from Uig on Skye to Tarbert, or Ullapool to Stornoway. EPC Rating: Band E

About the location

TARBERT

Lochgilphead 14 miles.

Built around an inlet on Loch Fyne, Tarbert has long been both a harbour and a key strategic point in the history of Scotland's rugged West Coast. Tarbert once required three castles to protect it, and the ruins of one of these can still be visited today. Built around the natural harbour, fishing and sailing continue to play an important part in the life of the village. There are many annual events to interest all tastes including the sailing regatta on Loch Fyne, seafood and music festivals. The 87 mile Kintyre Way stretches from Tarbert to the south of the Kintyre Peninsula, and offers walking for all levels and with ferry connections to Islay and Arran, there is simply no better location to relax and explore this rugged and picturesque part of Scotland.

Note: Bring own linen for travel cot.
Note: Though electricity is included in the rent, electric for charging cars is not included in the rental.
Note: Please bear in mind that this property is located on an island and therefore only accessible by plane or ferry.
