“We loved our stay at this lovely property.”

It was super clean and comfortable and Sarah, the owner, was very welcoming. Its in a great area of Lewis which is a wonderful island. Very much recommend booking in for dinner at the B and B . We had scallops and steak and have never tasted better of either.

The property

Atlantic Longhouse is situated in the small crofting village of Aird Uig, on the Gallan Head peninsula - your own cliff top eyrie to watch the weather moving across the land and sea - and a fabulous place to watch for eagles and otters as well as marine mammals in the bay. From the house you can sit and gaze at the seabirds on the cliffs and the bay where basking sharks, seals, dolphins and minke whales can sometimes be seen. The Snowy Owl is a regular seasonal visitor, as are greylag geese and the elusive corncrake. Atlantic Longhouse really does offer a gateway to nature and the chance to really immerse yourself in the exhilarating vastness of this land and seascape. Only 4 miles away is the superb Uig Community shop which is well stocked and can provide for your holiday shopping. Aird Uig is a village of two halves: the old crofting village and the former RAF (Royal Air Force) base. The base was constructed in 1954 to cover the North Atlantic gap during the Cold War. The 12 acre domestic camp was situated to the north of Aird Uig village and to the south of Gallan head and included married quarters. The domestic camp accommodation blocks have been converted into housing and incorporated into the village. Atlantic Longhouse has been built with its tremendous views in mind - facing the wild sea and dramatic cliffs and overlooking a beach. Your view from inside the house is always stunning - whatever the time of year. The house has been built with weather proofing foremost so that you can enjoy the spectacular storms and crashing waves from the inside of this cosy house. However, arrive in the Spring and you may very well find yourself enjoying balmy days which cannot be bettered anywhere else; the islands are magical at this time. Uig peninsula is one of the most popular destinations on the island due to the wealth of world class beaches, huge expanses of white sand and turquoise seas. Surfers will know of the popularity of Cliff Beach in particular. Come and discover a world apart - an oasis in the wilderness! The islands can be reached by flights from Edinburgh, Glasgow or Inverness; or by ferry from Uig on Skye to Tarbert, or Ullapool to Stornoway.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £150.

About the location

UIG ISLE OF LEWIS

Great Bernera 23.2. miles; Stornoway 35.9 miles; Callanish 20.5 miles.

Uig is a village resting on the edge of Uig Bay on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis and takes its name from the Norse word for ‘bay’. It is known for its rugged landscapes and attractive sand dunes with stunning views over the Atlantic. Attractions include the beautiful beaches of Valtos Peninsula and Mealista Beach plus refreshing walks along Berie and Ardroil sands, which are both rich in history (ancient hut circles have been discovered here by archaeologists and the famous Lewis Chessmen were found here) and more modern activities such as kiteboarding and windsurfing. Dining options include the impressive Uig Sands restaurant (in season) or head to the Uig Community Cafe which serves a great selection of food. There is also a distillery here at Abhainn Dearg. You can stock up on essentials at the Uig Community Shop. Just outside of the village is nearby Miavaig Pier where visitors can take boat trips to outlying islands.

Note: Though electricity is including in the rent, electric for charging car is not included in the rental. Note: Please bear in mind that this property is located on an island and therefore only accessible by plane or ferry
