The property

Taigh Eilidh offers 5 star accommodation in a 5 star location overlooking Ness beach and harbour. The view can be one of tranquil peace or of a wild and exciting storm but, whatever the elements deliver, Taigh Eilidh, winner of a Self Build Design Award, will be a luxurious and comfy retreat to enjoy anything the weather can throw at you! Situated spectacularly at the north-west tip of the Isle of Lewis, yet under and hour drive from Stornoway, it is easy to get to if arriving by ferry from Ullapool. The airport is even closer than the ferry terminal and so it is possible to fly in and car hire at the airport. We recommend Car Hire Hebrides. Once here you will find 2 superb beaches, Ness and Eoropie. There are art galleries, artists studios (one in Ness itself) and potteries to visit as well as fabulous walking. It is possible to spend your time touring the Isle of Lewis from here and even heading down to Harris, but with such a lovely house and view - why would you want to! A week can be fully filled just exploring the area and walkers can take a coastal route around the headland to the Butt of Lewis lighthouse. Here, in the breeding season, are thousands of seabirds nesting on the cliffs. In fact, it is possible to watch gannets diving for fish in the bay from the window of the house. The beach, of course, will be the big draw whether you enjoy swimming or beach-combing and building sandcastles! Being so close to and overlooking the beach you are perfectly placed to grab that special moment when the tide is just perfect. The photographs here were taken in August and you will see that the beach does not get packed with people even at this peak time of year. Tesco Stornoway operate the normal delivery service to Ness and the local store in Cross is a well stocked little gem for any day to day requirements. In Taigh Eilidh you will find that every care has been taken to provide you with a luxurious stay from the well equipped and immaculate kitchen to the 2 spacious shower/bathrooms and the quality linens and towels. Little extras such as soaps and handwashes and a welcome basket come as standard for all visitors.

About the location

PORT OF NESS

Ness 1.5 miles; Bragar 19.7 miles; Stornoway 26.8 miles

With an intriguing little harbour backed by a jagged headland, merging into an east-facing beach, the Port of Ness rests at the northern tip of the Isle of Lewis. Offering an insight into the legends, lore and long-observed traditions that have shaped the island’s identity, this community, in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, is a stronghold of the Gaelic language. Harbour View Gallery is where you will find some of locally-based artist Anthony J Barber's works on view. Cross boasts an inn that looks slightly out of place, along with one of the brightest and most cheerful looking post offices you'll find anywhere. From the nearby Butt of Lewis you can look out across the unforgiving waters of the Atlantic and stand in the shadow of a Stevenson lighthouse built of red brick. Take in the breath-taking scenery from the Isle of Lewis' northernmost point, surrounded by the swells of an ever-rising sea. The Butt of Lewis features some of the oldest rocks in Europe, having been formed in the Precambrian period. Discover Dùn Èistean, an archaeological site on the north east coast, showcasing the ruins of two large buildings amongst grassy tussocks. Stornoway is just 40 minutes away by car, with a busy working harbour, selection of shops selling local gifts including Harris Tweed and award-winning restaurants selling locally sourced food. Visit Lews Castle Grounds and the iconic Lews Castle as well as museums and art galleries. This beautiful location is for those looking to get out and explore the rural landscapes and fascinating Scottish heritage the Isle of Lewis has to offer.
