  • "Taigh Glas is a very well appointed and comfortable property with fantastic views over Gairloch and the mountains beyond."

Big Sand beach is just a short walk away. Elizabeth was a very friendly host, attentive but unobtrusive. Can’t recommend this property highly enough and we hope to return

Thank you very much for this excellent review, George. The story of how you managed to rescue the sparrow will live on in my memory! Elizabeth Property Owner

  • "What an absolutely idyllic holiday we had at Taigh Glas."

The cottage was immaculate and the panoramic views were fantastic. Watching the landscape of an evening across the sea, hills and mountains was mesmerising. The nearby village of Strath is very pretty with a selection of shops and Gairloch has everything you could need. We found the Farm Shop very friendly and had pretty much anything you needed. The beaches are lovely with a wide selection along whichever route you take. There's a nice little walk from Gairloch Beach to the harbour. Flowerdale Glen (Waterfall) was a lovely walk, seeing a stag (at the pond area near the entrance) was pretty special. Poolewe was beautiful, the local market on a Tuesday is recommended and the little cafe near the post office has delicious home made pies! Catching a sea trout in the estuary of Loch Ewe was a dream. Recommend walking the circular Loch Kernsary route, pure wilderness. Rubha Reidh lighthouse along the B8021 from the cottage is well worth a visit, passing through Melvaig and the vastness of the landscape makes it feel like the edge of the world! A walk over to Big Sand Beach to watch the sunset is only 5 minutes away. The directions to the cottage were perfect. Thankyou Elizabeth for a wonderful holiday.

You’re very welcome, Janet - I am delighted that everything worked out so well for you! Your considerate care of the cottage was much appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to write so many helpful comments for other visitors. Elizabeth Property Owner

Everything of high quality but did not feel too sterile. The books, maps etc of the local area really helpful. A wonderful place to stay to sample the pleasures of Gairloch.

Whilst it is a good base to explore the North West Coast, it is the perfect place to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of Big Sands itself. Elizabeth has created such a welcoming space with appliances and furnishings of a high standard and is the perfect host. We look forward to returning again soon.

  • "Beautiful, well appointed cottage in a stunning location."

Elizabeth is a considerate host who is on hand to deal with any problems, should any arise but gives guests complete privacy to enjoy their stay. We found the sofa quite uncomfortable but acceptable for the week. The pot holes on the drive to the cottage have to be carefully observed and could be quite dangerous if you were driving in the dark. We have stayed twice and thoroughly enjoyed both our holidays at Taigh Glas and would recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway. Sadly the cost of renting the cottage has now gone up considerably, therefore we will not be returning, as it is now beyond our means.

Thank you very much for your comments and your feedback. I’m glad that you enjoyed your stay. We have looked into these issues and the council have rectified the problem. We do appreciate the rising costs. Prices are rising across the board, however, and we have had to reflect that. Thank you again. Elizabeth Property Owner

The views were outstanding, so lovely watching the light fade over the distant Skye mountains, in the evening while enjoying a wee dram!. The property is presented beautifully and we had everything we needed for our stay. A lovely house and location for two on the west coast of Scotland with the owner Elizabeth discreetly on hand if required. Just lovely

It was a faultless and perfect holiday and in 50 weeks of travelling in the Highlands & Islands these past 5 years, Taigh Glas has, without rival, the very best kitchen I have ever had the pleasure of cooking in! The ever changing landscape views from the glass box lounge were very therapeutic and relaxing. The mighty Torridon Range of Mountains never fails to impress!

Thank you for your comments, Gary, and for taking such good care of the kitchen - much appreciated! Elizabeth Property Owner

  • "Elizabeth was a great host, very helpful."

The house was very clean with a superb kitchen (high quality appliances that all worked) and fabulous views of sea, Skye and mountains from the big windows in the lounge area. The log burner is an added bonus but we only used it once as we were lucky with the weather. The garden was full of birdsong when we were there (early May) and we sat on the little bench outside to watch them - brilliant! Elizabeth explained the footpaths to the beach and other walks we could do. Gairloch is a lovely place - eating lunch outside the community cafe in the sun was great! The house is perfect for two and we hope to be back one day.

  • "Absolutely perfect cottage in every way!"

Taigh Glas was so cosy to come home to after a days walking and we loved watching the weather come and go from the picture windows. It's the ideal place to recharge your batteries, whether you want to just sit and admire the view from the lovely stone seat in the garden, wander down to the beach or head off further afield to explore all that the area has to offer. The cottage is very well-equipped to a high standard with everything you could possibly need and spotlessly clean. Elizabeth is a very friendly and helpful host. We would not hesitate in recommending Taigh Glas and definitely hope to return.

  • "We have watched 5 deer munching contentedly at the grass just out the bedroom windows; we've seen so many birds here, across the field and on the beach - sparrows, redpoll, thrush, merlin, geese, skylarks, oyster catcher, lapwing, sandlings and more."

There was an otter catching his breakfast over by the far rocks.

Not completely isolated but certainly feels like it. Superb views of the mountains and sea. You can see the waves rolling in; take a pair of binoculars with you. Warm and very comfortable. • "Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Taigh Glas, a wonderfully renovated cottage which is perfect for couples."

We didn't want for anything, the views were fantastic and just lovely to sit and watch the sea and the mountains without moving as the glazed sitting area permitted views of both. Lovely and warm and didn't need to light the woodburner once. Well situated for exploring all around Wester Ross.

  • "Perfect place for couples or just one."

Loved the underfloor heating; toasty warm to come home to after a wet and windy coastal (or mountain) walk. I still dream about the 180' view from the living area through those marvellous walls of glass. Light, contemporary, but comfy decor. Everything you need, all modern appliances, and a helpful but invisible nearby hostess if you do manage to think of something extra!

Elizabeth has done an excellent job in renovating the property, which is clean, comfortable and has everything you need for a wonderful stay. 5 Star.
