The property

The south of Harris is a truly fabulous place for a holiday and Shalom Cottage is a truly fabulous holiday house! This newly built, 5 star luxury cottage has an elevated position above the sea and so commands the most dramatic and mesmerising views of sea and islands unsurpassed anywhere on the Hebrides. The owners are especially welcoming to families but, due to a most stunning location, the cottage is an attractive option for couples and individuals seeking a memorable, peaceful and awe inspiring place to enjoy a stress-free holiday. Shalom Cottage boasts superb panoramic views south east to the Isle of Skye across the Sound of Harris, Uists, Berneray and to where the sun sets in the West over numerous other Hebridean Islands including Pabbay, Killegray, Lingay, Dunarin and Gillesay. Leverburgh, the main village in South Harris, is just over 2 miles away where there is a well stocked store, restaurant and cafe. Northton, about 6 miles away, has an intriguing Temple Cafe which is well worth a visit and another mile along the road will bring you to the wonderful Scarista beach. Scarista Hotel offer excellent cuisine. The Isle of Harris is a great place for wildlife on land and in the sea. Walking in the hills, you may surprise a herd of red deer or a golden eagle, while the seashore is home to seals, curlews, shags, cormorants and divers amongst many others. The occasional otter can be spotted making its way through the seaweed and rocks. On the skyline above Shalom Cottage you will often see a buzzard gliding lazily along and croaking ravens performing their aerial acrobatics. You might even catch a glimpse of a peregrine falcon, but as they fly like bullets you need to be quick! Other moorland birds include golden plover with their mournful, piping cry and snipe, which make an eerie sound at dusk by 'drumming' with their wings. Out to sea, look for gannets winging their way to and from their breeding colony on St Kilda. These tireless fliers can cover hundreds of miles in a day's fishing trip and if there are fish in the Sound you can watch them plummeting vertically into the water, one after another. You may even catch sight of a sea eagle. The tidal creeks at Carminish are home to a variety of waders including curlews, oyster-catchers, red shanks and sandpipers. Could even the keenest bird watcher wish for more? Shalom Cottage caters very well for families and there are plenty of games and books for children as well as outdoor equipment and beach toys. Nursery equipment is supplied on request including cot with linen, highchair, baby monitor, changing mat, and steriliser. The islands can be reached by flights from Edinburgh, Glasgow or Inverness; or by ferry from Uig on Skye to Tarbert, or Ullapool to Stornoway. EPC Rating: Band C
