“Gorgeous spot overlooking the loch… we had a fabulous holiday.”

Paddle boarding and swimming directly in front of the cottage and watching the sea eagle above the island from the front room were particular highlights! Cottage comfortable and clean. We hope to return.

The property

What a wonderful location Tigh en Leigh occupies! It is just idyllic in so many ways - faces west and enjoys stunning sunsets; overlooks the sea; ringside seat to watch the sea-eagles; short walk to the shop, cafe, pub and restaurant and a beautifully appointed cottage to boot! Shieldaig is one of the prettiest of the west coast villages but 'pretty' certainly doesn't define the area - dramatic, spectacular, awesome, elemental and always stunningly beautiful. The huge, impressive sandstone mountains rise majestically from sea level and draw the outdoor enthusiast from all over the world. The famous Celtman Extreme Challenge was first held here in 2012 and continues now annually in June. The sea kayaker will love the bays and creeks to explore as well as the wider ocean and intricate coastline. There are companies based in Shieldaig who will take you out on kayak adventures and also mountaineering guides to keep you safe in the hills. However, perhaps you just want to chill out in a beautifully comfortable cottage, wandering to the coffee shop or bar and eating the finest seafood to be had. Drives over to Applecross are a must taking in a meal at the Applecross Inn - then down the Beallach na Ba - an alpine style road zig-zagging down the mountain side. Whatever you decide to do, Tigh en Leigh will be a warm, welcoming and comfy base to return to. EPC Rating: Band F

About the location

SHIELDAIG

Ullapool 60 miles; Inverness 75 miles.

The village of Shieldaig is a scattering of largely whitewashed cottages and other buildings, set along the shore of Loch Torridon. Established around 1800, Shieldaig, the Gaelic name for Herring Bay, boasts lovely views and some of the nicest sunsets imaginable. Some of the original cottages still exist and have been joined by several more as the village expands. This area is a paradise for fishermen, hunters, walkers and photographers alike. Shieldaig comes complete with a small collection of tourist services, including a shop and a seafront hotel. Nearby Lochcarron is home to one of Scotland’s oldest 9 hole golf courses set beside the sea, as well the well known Lochcarron Weavers, where tartan is still woven. Other attractions within reach, include the Isle of Skye and the world famous National Trust gardens at Inverewe.

Note: Though electricity is included in the rent, electric for charging cars is not included in the rental.
