  • "Lovely place to stay."

Only a few teabags and coffee sachets left on arrival so make sure to take some (or will need to buy). We all struggled with the pillows but that could be our personal preference. We felt a comfy sofa in the dining area would have been a great asset as you find yourself drawn to that area due to the views and warmth. We were able to turn the heating up when it was chilly. There was one large king size room and a second double but that was a smaller room, although it was next to the bathroom. The rest of the rooms have single beds. There were plenty of bathrooms to use and decent showers in them. Great fenced garden for our dog and walks from the door. Car port was great addition when unpacking and packing car. Plentiful supply of logs for the wood burner in the living room. Good communication with caretaker, Susan. We had a wonderful holiday and enjoyed our stay at Beltie House (Garden Cottage) and would return when staying in the area.

  • "We had a wonderful holiday - The setting was beautiful with easy access to beautiful beaches and wonderful countryside ."

The views from the kitchen were stunning - The garden was large and totally enclosed so great for the dogs to run freely . The house was very comfortable and warm - clean with a small welcome package - the kitchen dining area was perfect for us as a family as we love it when we can all be together during cooking and meal times . The property was quite off the beaten track so perfect for us .The signal was not good for internet access and Tv channels were limited so we watched DVDs and played games and read . The lane leading to the property was full of potholes so caution on approach. . Only a 15 minute drive to Kirkcudbright - a lovely town . All in all a fabulous holiday and we will definitely be booking this property again.

  • "Location good for us i."

    E. quiet, rural with a view of the sea. Cottage was very clean and well equipped. Separate utility room and garage were very useful for the cyclists in our family who really enjoyed the various cycle routes around the area. Lots of books and games were appreciated as was the space for members of the family to chill out. We thoroughly recommend the Garden Cottage for a good holiday.

  • "Blessed with fine weather, we had a fabulous stay at Beltie Lodge."

The house was perfect for 10 of us aged from 10-82. The downstairs bathroom was disability-friendly, which made the stay very comfortable for my mum. The kitchen/diner is the show stealer and we spent most time in there. Views to the water from the kitchen window were appreciated by all, as were the starry skies. The enclosed garden is very large, which meant the dog could roam freely and we also managed some garden yoga! We walked to the nearby bays for safe swimming and paddle boarding. The blackberries were out in force and so we picked plenty of those on the way! We also enjoyed the View Point (with local artist Annie's lovely display boards) several times and did some of the smaller 'field walks' from Borgue (maps online). We did not eat out, but had a final evening takeaway from Chen's Kitchen in Kircudbright (20 minute drive away) which was enjoyed by all and was very reasonably priced. The cottage has an interesting history (which we learned from locals in the know) and it has been thoughtfully and very professionally turned into a clean, comfortable and peaceful holiday home. If you are lucky to have good weather as we did, you'll be reluctant to leave.

  • "This is a perfect house for a large group."

Our favourite things were the amazing kitchen/dining area which was so bright, with stunning views of the sea. Also the fully enclosed garden was a real winner for us because there was absolutely no chance of our dog escaping. The house is well equipped and is in a perfect location to cycle from the door to the local beaches. There is also a huge storage room/garage which was perfect for keeping bikes. We definitely hope to return.

  • "Beltie Lodge has been one of our favourite ever holiday homes."

It's a wonderful house in a fabulous setting. The layout worked so well for our 3 generations, with multiple bathrooms and bedrooms, the communal kitchen/dining area and simple spacious garden. Our 3 grandchildren loved the space - inside and out. The area is beautiful. We have not had to stray to far to find everything we need. Beaches within walking distance, footpaths, pleasant and pretty small towns and appealing countryside. We hope to visit again.

  • "We have had a fabulous week in Beltie Lodge."

The house more than lived up to our expectations, in particular the great location and the stunning kitchen/diner. Everything had been thought of to make our stay as comfortable as possible, and we would be delighted to return at some point to continue exploring this very special corner of Scotland.

  • "The property is beautiful, and a lovely peaceful place."

We were 9 people and we practically lived in the kitchen/diner, beautiful and light with views out over the sea, really amazing. The garden, fully enclosed was such a blessing with our two dogs, so we could relax knowing they're not going to do a runner! The only small disappointment, which we soon got over, was that we thought we could walk from the property straight to the water's edge, as the photos on Sykes suggest this to be the case. However there was no access directly. The layout of the bathrooms with the bedrooms is fine for one big family, but for 4 couples sharing it would have been useful to have known in advance that there are no en-suites. I've booked through Sykes before, and must say that for group planning purposes, it would be useful if a layout of the house, especially for bedrooms/bathrooms were included. We all really, really enjoyed our time in your beautiful house, and other than an additional large French press, we had want for nothing! We are very grateful for the fantastic location, the facilities and Susan was a delight. We loved our stay, so thank you so much!

  • "Comfortable house for our party of 10."

Adequate parking for 4 cars. Wonderful walled garden for our grandchildren - and the dog! The drying cupboard in the large storeroom didn't seem to work too well, but, as we were lucky enough to have only one wet day, this wasn't a problem for us. Everything else was just grand! The appearance of a newt from the drain of the accessible shower was a highlight - we returned the little fellow to the nearby burn.

  • "We met as a family group from different households aged from 4 months to 72 years old just before Christmas and this was an ideal place."

With short days and some stormy weather we enjoyed the wide open space in the kitchen/dining area with lovely views of crashing waves and a couple of sunsets and a table large enough to play games, build Lego etc while preparing a Christmas dinner and other meals for which there were plenty of cooking utensils and dishes. We then cosied up around the log fire in the sitting room in the evening. The place was spotless with plenty of permutations for bedrooms and alternative small spaces to get away from it all if required. Despite the weather we enjoyed our walks. Only downside if you want to stream programmes is that the WiFi is not very fast; ok for checking e-mails and basic web browsing etc. Would love to come back in the summer but its fully booked! Surprise, surprise.

  • "Beltie Lodge is a brilliant house for a family get together."

We had three generations there who enjoyed a lovely large garden for games and what a view from the large kitchen diner! Beds, bedding, towels and plenty of lovely bathrooms with showers. In the kitchen everything you needed to prepare food for a big family only wee moan would be a dripping tap(we had left one at home doing the same) but hardly a problem. Lovely welcome pack and lots of other wee extras that made this a weeks holiday we will not forget and in a beautiful area. Thank you

Thanks for the review and delighted that you had a good week. (The plumber has been called to sort the tap out. ) Property Owner

  • "Beautiful property, sympathetically renovated and upgraded - the kitchen/dining/garden room is stunning and definately the 'centre' of the house."

Some things on the walls would help soften the acoustics as it was a bit difficult for those with hearing aids; four generations in our group. The walled garden is a great safe space for little ones to play.

Baby frogs were getting in through a gap in the corner of the right hand door near dresser. They were cute but nearly got stood on. Would be handy if there was 1 more bin liner for free standing bin. Holiday was still great though. Thanks

We are sorry about the frogs - just a consequence of being in a remote rural area with wildlife on the doorstep. The drains we will get checked out though and sorted. Property Owner

It was great for all our family; everyone from 76 to 6 had a great holiday. The kitchen/diner was the best we have ever seen in a holiday house and we have been coming up to Dumfries and Galloway for nearly 40 years. The store room was a great surprise and there is a bbq and lots of outdoor games in it. We have already booked for 2023 and looking forward to it.

It is extremely comfortable and the caretakers have gone to lengths to implement robust COVID mitigation measures. Our party comprised three families with two dogs and the house easily accommodated us all. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and, consequently, I would gladly recommend this property.

  • "Fabulous house which suited our needs perfectly."

Children adults and dog had a ball. Great kitchen with high quality equipment and extremely well appointed. Only one small criticism! The shower on the upper floor would benefit from a shelf to hold toiletries. Difficult for my husband to bend to retrieve soap, shampoo etc. Susan was a gem. Very helpful and informative. The provision of a BBQ enhanced our stay during a beautiful week weatherwise Thank you for letting us enjoy the house in such a lovely location.

  • "Beltie Lodge was perfect for our three-generation family holiday (with dog."

) The setting was secluded , with beautiful views which changed every day with the weather. The large kitchen-dining area provided a great space for our family meals, with a dresser full of crockery, a huge drawer of cutlery and almost everything we needed to cook large meals. We were a little sad the breakfast bar seats weren’t there, as pictured on the web site! The kids (9-14yrs) took over the TV in the mezzanine area and it was great for them to have their own spread-out area. I think we all struggled somewhat with the lack of decent wi-fi, but managed to identify the key spots in the house when we needed, and it did mean the kids spent more time in the garden! Having a piano was a real bonus and was well-used over the week. We spent every evening in the cosy sitting room, watching the TV or playing board games (and occasionally falling out!) We tried the drying cupboard in the boot room but it didn’t really provide any effective heat. A washing basket and drying rack would have been useful. We all agreed we would love to stay in Beltie Lodge again.

  • "Fabulous property."

This house is in a great location. This was not our first visit to the area so we were aware of the many activities on offer. It’s clear the house has undergone a complete renovation and to a very high standard. It’s a great space for a large family group. The kitchen dining area is especially good and proved to be the central point of the house for us. It was a pleasure to cook in a kitchen which felt like a home from home, with plenty of good quality utensils, cutlery and crockery. Something which is usually lacking in holiday rentals. The piano, and mezzanine with sofa and tv were great for the kids to have their own space. All the showers were brilliant. The drying cupboard and area for wet gear was ideal, considering the Scottish weathers unpredictability. This house really made our holiday. Highly recommended.

About the location

BORGUE

Kirkcudbright 5 miles; Dumfries 32 miles.

The quaint hamlet of Borgue has a pub and is situated five miles south west of Kirkcudbright. The historic and picturesque town of Kirkcudbright sits on the banks of the tidal waters of the River Dee, on the north Solway shore. Established as a Royal Burgh in 1455, giving it status to trade with ports outside Scotland, Kirkcudbright has always been supported by a busy fishing trade. Behind this working harbour, its wide streets and pastel coloured houses, a mix of Georgian villas and Victorian townhouses, make for a very attractive town centre, complete with the ruined McLellan's Castle. Also worth a visit is the interesting Stewartry Museum, housing a collection of assorted items representing the life and times on the Solway coast. Kirkcudbright is also known as the artists' town, established by Edward Hornel in the late nineteenth century and still the case today, with a fine collection of art galleries, crafts, cafés and antique shops. The area offers a quiet and relaxing atmosphere with attractive coastal landscapes and plenty to offer the whole family.
