  • "What a find!"

Tranquil setting, yet with so much to see & do on your doorstep. The cottage is immaculate; the welcome from Fiona & Gill warm. Superb hosts who have thought of absolutely everything. From the minute you open the door, you can see how much love & thought has gone into this cottage. Cannot recommend Gaidrew enough, we will be returning.

Very comfortable, light and airy accommodation with lovely decorative touches. Very well equipped and homely, Fiona made us feel very welcome and we appreciated her delicious home bakes on arrival. A good base from which to explore The Campsie Hills, Loch Lomond and plenty of interesting local walks from the cottage too.

  • ""Gaidrew has it all" Fiona and Gill gave us a warm welcome."

We take our time when choosing a cottage and do our research. The accommodation usually has these features 5* - location-quality--comfort with style."Gaidrew has it all". There is plenty of places to visit. Take a trip on Loch Lomand or Katrine on one of their boats. Feed the highland cows at Calender (The woolen Mill at Kilmahog) they sell a bag of food in the shop to feed the cattle. Have a special meal at Nick Nairns (cel.chef) at lake Menteith. Gaidrew is in a beautiful location. Well thought out with every creature comfort and tasteful decor. The beds were super comfortable and hard to leave but too much to do in the area .. so we were tempted to leave it. Fiona made us some beautiful cakes.Would highly recommended Gaidrew for a lovely holiday.

  • "We booked Gaidrew Cottage because we wanted somewhere we could relax."

What a great choice, we were made to feel so welcome when we were met at the cottage and given a quick tour, everything was immaculate and the owners have clearly taken a lot of time to consider the decoration of the cottage, the furniture is comfortable and the overall ambience of the property is wonderful. The beds and bedding are something else, comfortable, warm and tasteful. Cleanliness is obviously important to the owners and the cottage is spotless without being clinical, a home from home for us. Everything you need is at the cottage and the owners provide things you never even considered. As a base to explore Loch, Lomond, Loch Katrine and The Trossachs the cottage is ideally placed and Glasgow, Edinburgh and Stirling are within easy reach. The village of Drymen is really close by and the Spar there is well stocked, there is also a bakery/deli, two pubs, The Clachan is well worth a visit. But back to the cottage, if you are considering booking then go for it, we cannot recommend it highly enough and we doubt you will be disappointed. We certainly were not and at some point we will be returning. Beautiful.

  • "Last year when we were searching properties for our next sojourn north of the border we stumbled across 'Gaidrew'."

It was a little bit more than our budget allows but it was in an area of Scotland that we hadn't explored before. When reading through the previous reviews, I must admit we thought, "Really? The cottage can't be THAT good!" Nevertheless, we decided to give it a go. To say that it it is as good as the previous reviews would be be doing Fiona, Gill and Crawford, aka 'The A Team', an injustice. If Venice Simplon-Orient Express, Cunard, or for that matter Carlsberg did holiday cottages, 'Gaidrew' would be up there with them. The quality of the furnishings, the equipment, the fittings and the attention to detail is simply outstanding. Not to mention the most comfortable bed we have had the pleasure to sleep in away from home, ever! To stay in a place like this with 90 acres of farmland where you can wander freely with 400 sheep for company is heaven. There is even a little nature area set up by a burn that feeds into Endrick Water, the river that runs through the farm, where you can sit quietly soaking in the peace and tranquillity with the company of the deer. There are plenty of walks either from the cottage or a short drive away to take in the breath taking scenery. An unforgettable holiday, thank you.

It was perfect in every way. A beautiful cottage in lovely surroundings, with a secluded garden and patio furniture. The owner has thought of everything, a well equipped cottage. We were welcomed on arrival by the owner herself which we appreciated. A very comfortable and relaxing stay and we highly recommend booking this property. Only downside of which the owner was not aware of at the time of our booking the cottage was that it was listed as having EVC point. As we have an electric car this was a plus point towards booking the cottage. Then to find out by the owner herself after making the booking there was no charging point at the property. This was removed from the listing due to the owner contacting Sykes Cottages immediately. We managed to sort out where to charge in the area before we left for our holiday.

The owner has put a lot of thought into what she provides for her visitors and we cannot recommend the cottage too highly. It is beautifully sited. They all go that extra mile for the guests. Nothing is too much trouble. I can even go as far as to say,it felt like our home from home,on returning to the cottage. The cottage & area all felt familiar.Loads to do & see in the area.We were there for two weeks & still would need longer to stay at the cottage. The weather this time was absolutely amazing ,like all areas. The patio, brolley & furniture were never out of use.We spent more time at the cottage, outside than inside. The views are logged in our memories,as is the cottage. We miss the home bakes, now we’re home, with the fruit etc.It was a lovely welcoming treat for us on arrival. We would love to return to the cottage at some point. We would like to thank The A team (Fiona,Gill & Crawford),who all made our stay a most welcome & restfull break.

  • "We have now stayed at Gaidrew Cottage on two occasions and each time we were absolutely delighted with everything."

The Cottage has been beautifully renovated to a very high standard and furniture and fittings are of similar very high quality, with very comfortable beds. The kitchen is well set out and excellently equipped, whilst the bathroom and shower room are absolutely splendid. The integrated kitchen, dining area and sitting room is light and airy with superb views over pasture, valley and woodland. If the weather is poor, or you just wish to crash out and do very little, then the sitting room is an ideal place, and in better weather the lawn and terrace are delightful. Mind you there are plenty of places to visit in the area - Stirling is not far away and the excellent Antique Centre at Doune can occupy you for at least half a day. Walking and cycling are well catered for, with the Queen Elizabeth Forest well worth your time. Local walks (gentle or more vigorous) from the Cottage are very enjoyable. Really, there is nothing not to like about Gaidrew. We will be going a third time!

  • "This cottage has a tremendous amount to recommend it."

First of all it is set in lovely, rolling countryside with distant hills. It is within easy driving distance of numerous lovely places for walking and relaxing and also of some good historic venues to explore. Or there is the option of sitting in the restful, well-tended garden and admiring the view. The accommodation itself is spacious, light and airy and well-designed. All the furnishings and fittings are tasteful and of high quality and it is very easy to rest and relax there. The additional facilities such as TV and DVD are extremely good. The bathrooms could not be better while the kitchen is excellently appointed. It is just a lovely place to stay and we cannot think of anywhere we have rented before which matches the high standards here. Highly recommended.

Even the weather was perfect. The cottage is very spacious for four people. It is newly renovated to a very high standard. It is furnish and equipped to a high standard. The cottage was spotless when we arrived. Fiona is very organised and information and instructions on use of all appliances was left easily to hand. The cottage has nice views across farmland towards the valley. The cottage is a short drive or walk from Drymen and the surrounding attractions of Loch Lomond but is set in a very peaceful location.

  • "We were lucky enough to be the first LHH booking in this lovely cottage - the place has been beautifully finished and is immaculate."

Kitchen is very well equipped, bathrooms great, good shower, very comfy bed, lovely wood burning stove....... everything has been finished to a very high standard and felt very luxurious. We had great weather for October and were able to sit out on the terrace which is a fantastic sun trap. Although there are close neighbours it is private and we didn't feel at all overlooked. The area is great - so much to do - we did lots of walking around Loch Ard, Loch Lomond and Loch Katrine - all absolutely beautiful scenery. Right on the doorstep of the cottage you have the John Muir Way, West Highland Way and Rob Roy Way for running, cycling etc. 2 weeks wasn't nearly enough for everything! Fiona, Gill and Crawford made us feel very welcome and Fiona treated us to home baking which was delicious. LHH have never let us down and this cottage was one of our favourites - we will be back!

About the location

Drymen

Loch Lomond 4 miles, Aberfoyle 10 miles, Stirling 21 miles

The village of Drymen, nestling within the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, was popular with Highland Cattle drovers in the 18th and 19th centuries due to its location and legend has it that Rob Roy MacGregor used Drymen as a base for his exploits against the Duke of Montrose. Today the village is popular with tourists who enjoy not only its attractive village green and selection of pubs, shops and restaurants, but also its location allowing access to Loch Lomond. The West Highland Way and the Rob Roy Way both pass through the village and nearby Conic Hill and mighty Ben Lomond and perennial favourites with walkers. Drymen is the ideal base for exploring most of central Scotland with both Stirling and Glasgow in easy reach.
