Suilven is a wonderful family holiday home in the Highlands. The cottage is situated on its own estate, with a private loch (brown trout fishing included), and hundreds of acres in which to walk and explore. The area is rich in bird and wildlife, and deer are often seen close to the house. The famous 'Falls of Shin' are in the immediate vicinity, where there is a visitor centre and restaurant, and the spectacular waterfalls. Here, at certain times of the year, you can watch the amazing skill of the wild salmon as they negotiate the torrents and rapids in the river, ultimately faced with leaping up the waterfall. The sight is truly breathtaking.
Ravens Rock Gorge, at nearby Rosehall, is deep in the woods and there are waymarked paths leading to this very magical place. For the mountain bike addict, Balblair and Carbisdale both offer designated tracks and trails.
Golfers can chose from a variety of local courses, including Bonar Bridge, Brora, Golspie, Tain and, of course, Royal Dornoch.
Mountaineers, hillwalkers and ramblers should note that the Assynt mountains are easily accessible for a day's hill climbing; Suilven, Ben More Assynt, Canisp, Cul Mor, Cul Beag, Coigach and Quinag. Cavers can explore the Inchnadamph Caves and Bone Caves, the latter being of particular interest to the archaeologist as well, as is Ardvreck Castle on Loch Assynt.
The immediate area around the house is moorland, woodland and forest, with plentiful opportunity to walk and explore.
