Badarroch House is a delightful former steading that has been significantly extended by the addition of two stunning eco-friendly wings. The accommodation is on a single level and has been carefully laid out to give maximum flexibility for the larger family or party. Within the grounds is the delightful Down House, which sleeps four. The owner has no objection to parties booking both properties and gathering in the evening in the main house; however, it is only equipped for eight dining. (Details of Down House can be found on www.LittleHolidayHouses.com)
The highest quality materials have been used, with Scandinavian double glazing and doors, solid wood flooring and high levels of insulation making this an excellent winter retreat, as well as a summer holiday location: what luxury to return to after a day on the mountains or loch!
As well as its magnificent position, Badarroch sits within nearly five acres of ancient oak woodland, through which paths wind their way to the cliff-tops from where it is possible to scramble down to the shore below. Running through the garden are two delightful streams; there is a sheltered kitchen garden with a Gabriel Ash cedar greenhouse; and a large parking area.
The location of the house is truly unbelievable and being south/south-west facing it enjoys some spectacular sea views, as well as magnificent views across Loch Torridon to Applecross and Skye. There is a large exercise deck that also makes an ideal platform for viewing wildlife, which may include otters, pine martens, dolphins, and a wide variety of birds.
The village of Lower Diabaig comprises a small crofting community at the end of one of the most beautiful West Highland passes, from where there are breathtaking views across Upper Loch Torridon towards Applecross Forest and Beinn Eighe.
The villages of Shieldaig and Kinlochewe are within about a 40-minute drive, where there are further shops and a post office, and from where access to the rest of Wester Ross and its spectacular scenery is readily gained. Plockton and the Kyle of Lochalsh lie to the south; Loch Maree, Ullapool and Gairloch to the north; and Inverness and its airport is comfortably within a 2-hour drive.
