ACHARA HOUSE - DUROR - ARGYLL
Large self-catering holiday home on the west coast of Scotland
A beautiful Scots Baronial fairy tale house with all the charm of its era, yet with the facilities of the present, Achara House can be rented on a weekly, or longer, basis for exclusive use as a holiday house that is perfect for families.
The gardens are well maintained and stocked with species rhododendrons and azaleas; beech and yew hedges and mature trees surround the house; and there are attractive lawns.
Within the grounds are a tennis court and a stocked trout loch. Walks through the gardens, woodlands and in the hill garden behind the house afford superb views across Loch Linnhe to Morvern and the Ardnamurchan peninsula.
With its birch woodlands and indented, rocky coastline, the area is one of outstanding natural beauty, and the beach at Cuil Bay (5-minute drive, 15-minute walk) is ideal for family picnics and walks.
Oban and Fort William, approximately 20 miles south and north respectively, offer a fine choice of shops and amenities, including a sealife centre and skiing facilities. Glencoe, Scotland's premier mountain range, offers climbing and hill walking for all levels, as well as skiing and mountain biking.
Golf can be played just 10 minutes from the house on an excellent 9-hole course at Ballachulish; fishing, horse riding and sailing can be arranged locally; and boat charter and hire can be obtained in the area from Loch Linnhe Marina in Appin, and Oban.
There are two excellent seafood restaurants within a short drive of the house; and Inverlochy Castle in Fort William is a perfect venue for that extra special event.
Additional housekeeping can be arranged, as can the services of a ghillie.
