Property information

This traditional self-catering Scottish farmhouse is a brilliant family home for parties with children of all ages. Set in tranquil Strathdearn, this secluded property overlooks river and woodland, yet is only 14 miles south of Inverness and 16 miles north of Aviemore. Ideally situated for touring the Highlands, and a good choice for a winter holiday, this country farmhouse is only a short drive to one of Scotland’s most popular ski resorts in the Cairngorm Mountains near Aviemore.

There is a wealth of activities from which to choose to satisfy all age groups. Close to home you might like to visit the Tomatin Distillery Visitor Centre, where you can take a tour and sample some of their exclusive malt whisky.

Visit the many castles, see the wolves at the Highland Wildlife Park, or take the children to the famous Landmark Forest Adventure Park with its exciting flume rides. Loch Ness is only a 30-minute drive, and the Loch Ness Monster Visitor Centre at Drumnadrochit is open throughout the year. Urquhart Castle is open during the season, and it is possible to sail down the loch, either during the day or on an evening cruise.

Winter sports at Aviemore and the Cairngorms can be enjoyed at their best in January and February and, after a day on the ski slopes, what could be better than to return to your holiday cottage and a roaring log fire.

For those who are seeking a more peaceful break, the immediate area is one of tranquil beauty, with hills, forests and natural silver birch woodland ideal for walking and cycling.

Stalking and shooting can be arranged in the area but prior notice is required for this. Good fishing on the River Findhorn can be arranged with the owner.

A large farmhouse kitchen (with table for 10) enjoys peaceful views across the Findhorn Valley through French doors and is the perfect place to gather together. The large garden, fenced and gated, is a safe place for children to play.

My family and I (2 adults and 3 young children) rented the press house for 1 week in July 2017 and we loved it. The house was lovely, very clean with everything we needed from cutlery to wood for the fire burner. The views outside were stunning and we Will definitely return. Can't recommend highly enough.

Booked for New Year week (8 adults, 7 children and 2 dogs) and there was ample room for all of us. Stunning views all around from the elevated position above the river, down to Tomatin and North over the hills towards Inverness. Made good use of the roads and tracks nearby for walking; played football on the covered, all-weather pitch; hiked a few of the surrounding hills; swimming at Inverness leisure pool (excellent facility); Culloden; Fort George; Aviemore/Cairngorm; etc. Plenty to see and do within easy striking distance. The house itself was more than adequate, with the room configuration suiting us perfectly. It had everything we needed (and more) in terms of cooking facilities and so on. The sitting rooms and bedrooms were very comfortable and the house was always warm, regardless of how cold it got outside. The housekeepers, Mike & Christine, were most helpful and the one time we had an issue they responded quickly to solve it. Would happily stay here again, a beautiful spot.

Just returned from a fabulous holiday at The Press. We holiday as a family of 15 every year and the best house for this purpose as yet. Suitable for both adults and children. Photographs do not give a true picture, as it is wonderful. Constant warmth, larger than we thought and Housekeeper extremely helpful when contacted. Loads to do within a reasonable distance. Reluctant to go home. Thanks.

just spent a wonderful week with the family at The Press (30/06/2012) what a great place - lovely house with good grounds. House is prefect for a family and brochure does not do it justice! Facilities are excellent - only complaint would be that it could do with another shower on the first floor. Would have no hesitation in going back or recommending to anyone. This is a great property - well maintained.

What a wonderful holiday I had at Press with my sisters and their families in June 2011. All made very special as it had been the home of our ancestors, Noble's, traced back to the early 1800's, so far! The weather was glorious, although windy; the accommodation ideal for 14 and the views superb. The children loved the garden and walks down to the Findhorn and the woods. A magical time for us all. Chris and I were married 8/8/2008. Our original venue went bust so we arranged to hold the ceremony at "The Press" What a wonderful day ! The rain held off and we held the ceremony in the garden. Just us and 11 guests, it was perfect. The wedding photos were taken down in the valley by the river, it was truly memorable and our guests loved the house, would recommend it to anyone as a wedding venue.

Terrific Place in a great setting. Great large kitchen with great access out to the garden. Will be back. 10/10

We were there at new year and it was a brilliant house. A little bit cold in the top bedrooms but otherwise a great place to stay for kids and adults alike.
