Property information
Smiddy Cottage is a 5 star, luxury thatched cottage on the Isle of South Uist in the Outer Hebrides. The cottage was built in 2008 using local stone and thatching reed and offers a beautifully cosy retreat for 2. Nestling within the scattered crofting community of Smerclate and with views out to Eriskay and the Atlantic Ocean, this cottage is perfect for island lovers, beachcombers and all who just wish to escape to a slower pace of life in timeless surroundings. Without a doubt the months from April to the end of September are the prettiest on the islands and the machair flowers are an amazing sight in Spring and Summer, but a worthy contrast are the dramatic late autumn and winter months when the islands are elemental and awe inspiring. Cosy in your deep walled, thatched cottage you can enjoy the experience from the comfort of the sofa - glass in hand and feet up!
It is hard to convey in pictures the peaceful and timeless atmosphere that the owner has created in this beautiful wee cottage. You need to come and experience it for yourself!

Bill and Jan EvansHaving spent the last 40 years on holiday on Arran we decided it was time for a change. We loved the Smiddy Cottage in South Uist, and loved exploring, North Uist, Barra, Eriskay, Bernaray and Benbecula. The cottage and surrounding scenery is fabulous and Alfie our dog loved the 5 minute walk to the beach, where he would chase sticks all day. We walked to the Kildonan tea room and sat out side with Alfie as we also did at the Pollochar Inn as unfortunately they do not allow dogs even in their public bar . Loved our South Uist experience, wonderful scenery and wonderful comfortable cottage, looking forward to returning. Thank you for a wonderful experience x

J & D RutterAfter all sorts of wild Hebridean weather it was great to return to your lovely, warm and comfortable cottage. Thanks for the welcome pack. We had a great day out with Steve Duffield, )01876 580619)seeing otter families playing and viewing a huge variety of birds and flora amid beautiful countryside. Nice walk to Polochar Inn for supper and enjoyed the museum cafe. Also, bought local fish at the factory on Barra - delicious scallops and watched the gannets diving at the ferry terminal on Eriskay. Very good food at the Politician pub inn Eriskay. We enjoued the free 'fishing trail' in Grimsay and walks to loch Eylort and Toby Beag.

Anne and RonFirst time we saw The Smiddy we couldn't believe how beautiful it was. Tiny outside but spacious, comfortable and well equipped to a high standard. The area is outstanding - we have seen lots of wildlife including whales! But the otters have been very elusive. Thanks for making us so welcome. The place is a little piece of heaven and the people so friendly. The weather has been amazing, fabulous all round.

Sandra and MichaelWe've had the most amazing honeymoon and have fallen in love with both the islands and Smiddy Cottage! Weather was fantastic and we made good use of the bikes (cycle to Eriskay is lovely). We wil definitely be back.

Ken and AntheaThis is a beautiful holiday cottage, thoughtfully equipped and a pleasure to stay in. We were grateful too for the welcome gifts. We love South Uist, Eriskay and Benbecula and found the maps and walking information so useful in exploring out of the way places we otherwise may have overlooked. So much wildlife to see including short eared owls up the road, hen harrier ad one evening, a whale passing through the bay. A truly peaceful, relaxing and enjoyable week.
