More information about Westerlea

Property information

Westerlea is a newly (2015) renovated Black Isle farm cottage which has been restored and stylishly refurbished to an exceptionally high standard. From this traditional cottage you have uninterrupted views across the Cromarty Firth to the mountains and hills of both Ross-Shire and Sutherland. Sitting out on the westerly deck, favourite tipple in hand and watching the sunset will leave lasting memories for many years to come. Alternatively, an evening walk to Castle Craig (which you can see from the deck), a ruined 16th century tower house which sits on the shore, gives the chance to really appreciate this expansive and tranquil area.

The cottage has been luxuriously appointed and has 3 bedrooms and 2 bath/shower rooms; a very well-appointed kitchen and sumptuous sofas and chairs to sink into after a day exploring all the Black Isle has to offer. Hard to condense all the attractions of this lovely area in this small space but first of all, for those who love to eat out, the Black Isle has become well known for the diverse and exciting menus available in its many restaurants. Sutor Creek in Cromarty with a wood fired oven for delicious pizzas and an alternative range of dishes is the closest and a visit to this fascinating and historic village is a must. RIB trips out with EcoVentures to see the resident dolphins can be arranged from here too.

Udale Bay RSPB reserve is along the road and is spectacular from October to March with thousands of overwintering ducks and geese. In the summer, Osprey can be seen feeding here plus huge flights of Knot and of course you will almost certainly see the famous Black Isle Red Kites gliding over the cottage.

A lovely rural and peaceful location yet only 15 minutes drive from all the amenities of the Highland towns of Dingwall and Invergordon and just 20 minutes from the capital of the Highlands, Inverness. There is so much to enjoy in the immediate area but also under a 1 hour drive takes you west down Loch Ness; south to the Cairngorms; North to Dornoch and east to the castles and whisky distilleries of Speyside.

What a fabulous find! Westerlea was perfect in every way, for our family summer holiday. The cottage is beautifully presented, Kirsty was so welcoming (with a shortbread recipe to envy), and those views... Stunning. A great location for days trips around the Black Isle and beyond. We couldn't have asked for more. Thank you for the memories.

We had a wonderful time at Westerlea. John and Kirsty met us at the house and were informative about the area. There was a wee welcome pack which was most welcome and a lovely touch. The house was immaculate and I will be recommending it to anyone who will listen to me. It goes without saying that the setting is breathtaking too. You never get tired of the view. Very impressed with LHH too. First time I've used it and it will be my first stop when looking for further rental properties in Bonnie Scotland.

Stayed here May 9th for a week and found it to be a home from home the friendliest of welcomes received from Kirsty and John . The welcome pack was a lovely touch and well enjoyed, the lemon cake especially ,the cottage was immaculate with all the mod cons you could ever need and overall very comfortable .The location is quiet and the stunning views change every hour with the weather good or bad. Our testament to how enjoyable Westerlea was is that having stayed in many a cottage/house, several through LHH, we have booked to stay here again in February 2016 we loved it and cant wait to return .

We were honoured to be the first to stay at Westerlea in May 2015, what a truly delightful cottage this is. It is luxuriously furnished and very cosy and comfortable. This is definitely one of the best holiday cottages we have stayed in, and we have stayed in many over the years. It was very clean and our every need was provided for. The level of bedding, furniture, and appliances was truly exceptional. We had a great welcome from the owners Kirsty and John, who provided us with a basket of goodies. Westerlea is in an idyllic location and we cannot wait to return.
