More information about Shore House

Property information

Shore House is one on its own – in more ways than one! This is a beach house with access from the car park by a path and steps, where it nestles under the cliff. The front garden rapidly becomes the sea! However, for those with the dream of living by the sea, enjoying the most amazing night skies and watching for the seals, otters, dolphins and whales which travel through the seas in this area then this is the spot. Shore House offers the opportunity to live that dream. Come with a sense of adventure.

The house is reputed to have, once upon a time, been a shop for the islanders across on the now uninhabited Isle of Longa. Perhaps deliveries were made by boat and home shopping may not be such a new invention after all!

The cottage is, as you would imagine, quaint, quirky and cosy with a wood-burning stove and 2 bedrooms accessed by narrow tread stairs. Lying in bed listening to either the roar of the rolling waves or the gentle lapping (depending on the sea's mood), with a sky full of stars overhead, will create memories for ever and no doubt bring you back time and again.

Big Sand beach, with its backdrop of mountains, is just a stroll along the shore. From here you can launch a kayak or, if brave enough, enjoy a swim. There are several other beaches in the area including Red Point, Gairloch, Mellon Udrigle, Gruinard and Firemore.

Mountains to climb are just too numerous to name and for those enjoying lower level walking there are tracks and trails criss-crossing the land.

What a week and what an amazing find this house is. Saw the famous otter but also seals and loads of different birds on the beach. Loved our days at the house, building sandcastles and lighting fires on the beach. We will be back next year.
  • Alison and Mark
Lovely week of sunshine. We stayed out most nights until sunset. Enjoyed being on the shore and watching birds (no others!)

Shore House is truly one of the most extraordinary places I've ever stayed. From the moment myself and my girlfriend arrived, we were transfixed by the extraordinary setting on the beach and the view encompassing the Torridon mountains, Skye, Longha and the Outer Hebrides. As a consequence, it's the first place we've stayed where we looked forward to spending time inside and outside the house simply taking in the surroundings. Never would have thought that one could spend so much time simply watching the sea, the tide, the changing conditions and the variety of birdlife. Already planning the return visit next year...
  • Bas Haastrecht
Cosy cottage, lovely beach bench. Nice Scottish weather (all type), stunning nature.
  • Ken beaumont
Wonderful views - seals, otters, porpoise all in the water in front of the cottage. Nice walk up to the headland beyond the old salmon bothy - disturbed a White Tailed Sea Eagle, it flew off towards Longa, to be mobbed by gulls for the second time that day.
