More information about Farthingworth

Property information

Farthingworth is an old traditional croft house, which has been tastefully restored and extended, with a superb contemporary wing to take the best advantage of the immense views achieved from this vantage point. A panorama of sea, sand banks and sky contrast with the Dunrobin Castle woodlands and mountains beyond. Ever changing with time and tide, the view is mesmerising; dazzling the eye when the tide is in or catching the huge numbers of seals on the sand banks when the tide is out.

The choice of furnishings and fittings beautifully complements the environment in colour and texture, encompassing an outside/inside feel, which has created a most relaxing and tranquil atmosphere. It will be a hard place to tear yourself away from, but leave you must to sample what this popular area has to offer.

Skelbo is a peaceful little hamlet of just a few houses, on a quiet back road, 10 minutes drive from Dornoch. Walking from the house is good and opens up a long coast walk to Dornoch or the Skelbo Forest walk nearby. With such easy access to the Sutherland hills and mountains, hill walkers have a good range of levels to choose from. There is excellent bird watching down on Loch Fleet, just a pleasant stroll, where Osprey are sometimes spotted over the loch.

In addition to Royal Dornoch just down the road, there are several golf courses in the area including Tain, Golspie, Bonar Bridge and Brora.

Dornoch has a huge sandy beach, which is safe for bathing, and is an attractive County Town with cafes, gift shops, stores and restaurants. For more shopping and larger supermarkets, Tain is not far away and Tesco and Asda will deliver to the house.

Day trips to Caithness, the west coast and even Orkney are achievable from here, opening up much of the Northern Highlands for exploration.

Farthingworth oozes good taste! It's a perfect mix of old and new, stylish and contemporary, yet homely and cosy. The photos don't really prepare you for how lovely it is when you walk through the door. The owners seem to have thought of everything and we spent a fabulous week here, relaxing and taking in that amazing view.....the telescope is a perfect example of how well thought out this home is. The kitchen is superbly stocked with all the equipment you'd ever need and I actually enjoyed cooking in it which isn't often said of a holiday home! Added bonus that such a lovely property allows dogs so Baxter, our Golden retriever could enjoy it too. Highly recommend.

We enjoyed our stay at Farthingworth very much. It is a fantastic house with a wonderful view. It was our first time watching Highland Games and it was great. The dolphin trip via Nigg's ferry to Cromarty is worth to do and a lot more. We met many very friendly people especially our neighbours in Skelbo Street. We would recommend that beautiful house and would like to come back one time.
