More information about Point Clair House

Property information

Point Clair House occupies one of the finest and most sought-after locations in the Highlands of Scotland on the banks of Loch Ness. Sitting, as it does, in a private, elevated, position the uninterrupted views from the property are breathtaking, both south down the loch to Fort Augustus and north up the loch to Drumnadrochit. Built in the 1930's by a ship's captain, the nautical influence is evident in the design of the house where the bow ended front of the property resembles the bridge of a ship. The windows of the sitting room and master bedroom have been designed to take maximum advantage of the views. This area encompasses the sitting room on the ground floor and the master bedroom above - both rooms commanding the stunning views of Loch Ness.

Surrounding the house are three and a half acres of mixed woodland and lawns from where paths lead down to the natural harbour and beaches on the loch side. Here is a sheltered mooring, the perfect launch point for kayaks and dinghies.

The location of the house is 3 miles north of Fort Augustus, which is an historic village nestled in the stunning scenery of The Great Glen which stretches from the East to the West coasts of Scotland. The village stands on the Caledonian Canal, a magnificent relic of 19th century engineering, built to link the North and Irish Seas. Fort Augustus offers a range of shops including grocery and gift shops plus restaurants and cafes. Both fishing and boating can be arranged from here.

The area offers both easy and challenging walking in a wild, unspoiled landscape of wooded glens and soaring mountains, rich in wildlife. The house is 35 miles from Fort William and 60 miles from Aviemore ski centres. Horse riding and pony trekking from Drumnadrochit can be arranged including riding for the disabled.

A few miles north is the famous Urquhart Castle visitor centre managed by Historic Scotland and open to the public year round. This medieval castle is rich in Scottish history, all beautifully portrayed by the audio visual displays and films in the Visitor Centre. The restaurant is a pleasant place for 'lunch with a view'! It is also a superb place to hire for a wedding.

Inverness airport is less than an hours drive being just 37 miles and there is public transport between Fort William and Inverness City Centre. There are link buses to the airport.

The house has been beautifully refurbished in 2013 and is equipped with the large family in mind to offer a really superb, easy to manage, relaxing and welcoming holiday home in the Highlands but for those with a love of the outdoors, the hills and the water, there can be no better place. Swimming in the loch (for the hardy!) is safe - Nessie is reputed to be friendly!

We stayed at Point Clair from 27th June until 4th July 2015 with family and friends. The house is simply spectacular! The master bedroom and the main lounge command a view up Loch Ness that has to be seen to be believed... Our whole party thoroughly enjoyed the views! The standard of furnishings throughout the house is exceptional, and there is everything you could possibly need to accommodate a large family gathering. Dining in the beautifully crafted dining room is quite an experience. We loved exploring the private beach areas, and were able to take our canoe out onto Loch Ness directly from the safe and private beach area. What a treat to see the area from this lovely stretch of water! This is a stunningly beautiful house and location. If you do wish to use it as a base to explore other parts of Scotland, you also have scenic Fort Augustus on your doorstep with its wonderful series of boat locks, and both Inverness and Fort William are a short drive away. We will certainly be looking forward to our next visit!

The house is awesome and it was lovely to come back to every day. The website was accurate with the description of the best location on the Loch. We had great fun everyday playing on the private beach. Our dog thoroughly enjoyed running around in the secure garden and paddling in the Loch. The view from the master suite bathroom is probably one of the best bathroom views in the world. The Scottish whisky, marmalade and shortbread were a lovely welcome on our arrival as was the tea, coffee and milk. The owner, Catherine, was very helpful and friendly and provided us with all the information we needed to ensure we had a relaxing and stress free week. Point Clair is the perfect place to recharge your batteries. We are already planning our next trip to Scotland.

We have just returned after the most relaxing weeks holiday ever, the House and Location were amazing, we did venture out, but could not wait to get back, to just soak up the aura of the place...suited all our families needs, excellent facilities and the private beach area, icing on the cake Both the Owner & LHH were more than brilliant at helping us with this last minute booking, so would definitely recommend, the House and Company.

The house was amazing and very well set up for a large party to stay. All rooms were exceptionally furnished. and both owner and housekeeper were very quick to respond to any queries. Loch Ness was spectacular. Highly recommended property and location.

We visited Point Clair as a family of 11 at Easter. This is a fabulous house in beautiful surroundings. Private, extensive gardens with plenty for the kids to explore and lots of room for games of football and general running around. We enjoyed sitting down at the little private beach where the kids could paddle in the water and even managed to get out in our kayak. The views from the living room and front bedroom windows are gorgeous and a sight you would never tire of. Well equipped kitchen and utility room. We have stayed in many large houses in Scotland and this is a favourite.

My extended family and I stayed at Point Clair at New Year and can honestly say that, after 10-years of going to Scotland for New Year, this is the best house we have been to. The views are unforgettable and the house is so comfortable and well furnished that we wanted for nothing. Perfect for the whole family. We loved nothing more than watching the Loch with the fire roaring!! The welcome was also superb. We would definitely come back one day. Thank you for letting us stay.

I organised a family week away for my Dad's 80th birthday. I wanted to make it special and Point Claire was just the place. The house was fantastic for people to all be together (there were 9 of us) or take some timeout to read/talk/walk/watch TV/cook/sleep. Fantastically comfortable beds were a great hit with everyone and the lounge, as well as having the view that is out of this world, has really comfortable seats and a wonderful log fire that really made the room seem cosy. We found fantastic walks to take the dog on, just down the road, (forest and river walks) and mush to my surprise, even Fort Augustus held some unexpected gems, like the canal path walk, which was a real hit with all the over 75's ! I have received many phone calls from members of the party since our return thanking me again for organizing such an amazing week, but really the house (with Catherine's help!) did most of the work. This is a very special place and we all talked of trying to come back soon.

We have just come home from Point Clair House and wished we'd booked 2 weeks instead of 1. There was 10 people in our party and the house was such a good size for us. We could all sit together comfortable in the evenings and enjoy the amazing views over the Loch or gather round the dining table. All the bedrooms were a good size with comfortable beds and plenty of bathrooms. The kitchen was well equipped with some huge pans and an enormous amount of crockery, but these are the practical points. The best thing about the house is the position. From the Lounge and the Master Suite, there are the most breathtaking views over Loch Ness and the Mountains beyond. Small beaches and large enclosed gardens made this perfect for our 2 dogs. We certainly hope to return here.

Never have we stayed in a house with such incredible views - the setting is just perfect. Whatever the weather or time of day you never tire of looking at the ever changing views up and down Loch Ness. We also had the surprise of a perfect week of weather - sunshine every day! As if that wasn't enough the house itself is comfortable and spacious. The finish is high and the decorative touches make it feel like a home not a holiday let. The owner and the housekeeper made sure our holiday was perfect and were a delight to deal with. This house and its location are unique.

I booked this property to celebrate the Hogmanay week with my family and all twelve of us who stayed were astounded by the quality and comfort of Point Clair House, whilst not forgetting the breathtaking views from practically every room! The luxurious communal areas meant we could all relax and enjoy bringing in the new year in an incredible manner. The dining room in particular was a real show stopper! The grounds themselves are beautiful, even in the sometimes bleak Scottish winter, and offer a useful space to walk off an overindulgence or two as well as cut out all noise from the road. All the highlights of the region are easily accessible from this location as we took in visits to Urquhart Castle, Fort Augustus and a day on the slopes at the Nevis range. I must mention everyone who I had dealings with when arranging this magnificent stay as they could not have been more helpful or accommodating (including chopping down a tree blocking the drive after the wild winds!!). My family and I are already attempting to coordinate diaries to book this again in the near future!

It is not without problems to rent Point Clair House - but the problem is - you don't want to leave! It is a fantastic house! Pictures do not show all the glory of the property - the view of the loch day and night. The garden is an adventure by itself - when you leave the trimmed parts around the house and explore the jungle of old paths and different ways to the loch. The standard of the house is very high - almost everything is new - great furniture - wonderful beds. First time I see a big collection of global knives in a rental house!!. Nice touch you can wash a little clothing in your vacation. And very good service from LHH and the caretaker of the house. My unconditional recommendation - only disappointment was that Nessie was a little shy...
