More information about Raineachan

Property information

Raineachan is a pretty cottage which has all the charm of a 200 year old fishermans cottage normally found in this area but, surprisingly, it was only built in 2007. The cottage benefits from all the advantages of a new build in terms of warmth and home comforts with insulation and double glazing to a remarkable specification. Raineachan was designed by artists who have created a beautifully tranquil atmosphere inside ensuring that, whatever the weather, your holiday will be a pleasurable break away from everyday life. Stepping through the front door you will be surprised by the lofty lightness of the main room with its cathedral ceiling, feature fireplace with wood-burning stove and slate floors. This room serves as kitchen sitting room and dining room - ensuring that no one is shut away in a kitchen whilst others relax! The choice of colour and fabrics enhances the tranquility of the interior and complements the location with its relaxing views of the loch.

High quality furnishings and facilities guarantee a comfortable stay and, with two bathrooms, sharing is easy. The main bedroom has an en suite shower room and the twin bedroom has an adjacent bathroom.

The house sits at the end of a very quiet, no through way lane with no passing traffic. To the west of the house is a stream which makes its way down to Loch Fyne and borders the garden. There is parking for 2 cars immediately outside the cottage.

The cottage has lovely views westwards over Strachur Bay and Loch Fyne. Strachur is a small village on the southern shore of Loch Fyne, a loch famous for it's kippers and oysters! The well known Creggans Inn with bar and restaurant is nearby (possible to walk) and offers an excellent menu or there is the village tea room just 5 minutes stroll.

Argyll, with its long coastline and mountain ranges, provides the outdoor enthusiast with many activities including sailing, hill walking, deer stalking and salmon and sea fishing. Dunoon, 21 miles distant, offers extensive shopping. Glencoe and its famous mountain range can be reached in an hour and a half drive. Closer to the cottage is Inveraray with its award winning Jail Museum, Castle and numerous tourists attractions and shops.

Please note that the bottom row of pictures are local area views and are taken from close to the property but not actually from the property.

We spent a lovely week at Raineachan at the beginning of June. The cottage is surprisingly large and very well situated by Loch Fyne. It was comfortably furnished, generously supplied and attractively designed: a very lovely place to stay. Joe sent plenty of information to arrange our holiday, and was responsive with additional ideas. The location is exquisite, and being so close to the Inver Restaurant is a real boon. We couldn't have had a happier holiday.

Spent a lovely week at Raineachan in March. Beautiful cottage which was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. Great location in the pretty village on Strachur. Joe gave us lots of really useful information before we arrived on the local area and things to do. Thoroughly looking forward to booking another week in the summer when we can make the most of the amazing views from the garden

A lovely location, for walks and tours as you desire, or to end a day in relaxing by the log fire. The cottage was spotlessly clean and much attention to detail in in its layout, a tranquil place to be - recommended 5Star.
  • S.S.
We had a great stay, and once again, a really nice, well equipped property.

This is a comfortable, stylish, cozy and well-equipped cottage which is in immaculate condition and deceptively-spacious. It is well-situated for access to the many attractions in the area as well as touring further afield. The village itself has excellent amenities including a filling station/shop, a good restaurant, a friendly pub and an excellent cafe at The Bay which doubles as a surprisingly well-equipped shop/PO. The Smiddy Museum is small but worth a visit as is the Church of Scotland. The Inver Cottage Restaurant lives up to its reputation but a real "find" is The Barn Cafe at Milltown near Tighnabruaich! We certainly hope to be back.

Spent a lovely week at this delightful property. House was excellent and the area is amazing. Lots of walking and would recommend Pucks Glen as a beautiful walk. George hotel in Inveraray was great and the local cafe in Strachur was also a great find for breakfast and lunch. Would definitely recommend this property. L

Raineachan - Strachur We rented properties in Scotland on 4 occasions in 2013 and Raineachan was outstanding and certainly our favourite. It was simply a mix of all the things we were looking for in a holiday cottage. It is in a convenient location to travel to with stunning views and a good base for days out site seeing. It’s very well equipped and spacious, yet it has a cosy feel to it when the log burner is lit. The local Creggans Inn was excellent too with a bistro and a restaurant, local ales and friendly staff. I am sure we will return!

We had a lovely week at Raineachan (12-19th October), the cottage is in a great spot, set back from the road looking out over Loch Fyne. The cottage is very well equipped and has all the home comforts that you would want. Great walks in the local area - Benmore Botanical Gardens are great - and the drive to Oban is spectacular. We would highly recommend Raineachan to anyone wishing to explore Argyll. Thanks Joe for making it available as a holiday cottage - if it were mine, I would be a little selfish and want to keep it all to myself.

We had a wonderful week in Raineachan during September 2013. The place is so warm, comfortable and quiet as well as ideally placed for visiting the quite spectacular Argyll and Bute. Everything we needed was provided and with some very special eating places nearby (see our entries in the visitors' book in the cottage) a good week was guaranteed. Highly recommended!

We have just spent a week at Raineachan 15th-22nd June and had a brilliant time. The cottage is excellent and has all the facilities you would want from a holiday cottage. It is tastefully presented and has a very homely feel. The location is also excellent being very private and quiet with great views across Loch Fyne.We had some great weather and it was relaxing to sit outside on an evening and watch the great sun sets. Raineachan is also well located for exploring the local area such as Loch Lomond, Isle of Bute and Seil, Oban, Inveraray and many more. The local restaurants are also very good,The Creggans is a 15mins walk away and only a 20 minute drive away is Loch Fyne oyster bar which is a must visit if you want to sample the local salmon. I would definightly recommend Raineachan as the perfect place to spend a week which gives you a cottage full of local charm and a perfect location for visiting the surrounding area.Mike Oram.

Just returned from our second visit to this lovely cottage. It was just as good as the first visit. Beautiful quiet surroundings, just what you need to relax. We had great weather and did plenty of walking. couldnt ask for more.Dean & Steven Raftry-Rowe.

This is a beautiful little cottage in a wonderfull setting. It has all the mod cons you require with oldie world charm. It is also well situated for trips out and good for walking. I would recommend you take a torch if you go in autumn through winter, as it is black as pitch at night you cannot see a thing. i will be recommending this place to my friends and will hopefully be back again. Dean & Steven Raftry-Rowe.

Raineachan had everything we could have asked for in a holiday cottage; a property with character , warm and comfortable with wonderful views across Loch Fyne. Added to this are great walks nearby, lots of places to visit and some excellent local seafood in pubs and restaurants a short drive away. We loved Raineachan and can't wait to come back. The Armstrong Family.
