Property information

Seahorses is spectacular! Not only does it occupy a prime location on this popular coastline but the position commands panoramic views across the sea and towards Quinag, one of the iconic Assynt mountains so beloved by hill walkers.

The original owner, who built the house himself, had to carve an access road through the hard, ancient rocks to reach this most magnificent vantage point. It would be hard to find a more impressive view.

Drumbeg is situated on a single track road which connects Lochinver to Kylesku. Following this fascinating and picturesque road takes you past sandy beaches which form a necklace along the coast and are a delight for children and adults alike. Immediately at the house there are badgers and pine martens and most visitors (recorded in the visitors book) have found that by leaving sandwiches out on the patio for the badgers they can be observed at close quarters. The pine marten is often seen on the bird feeder!

Relax in this contemporary, luxurious and recently created (Summer 2012) self-catering cottage in Sutherland on the north west coast of Scotland. With a spacious lounge, well-equipped kitchen and tastefully appointed en suite bedrooms, the house is ideal for families or for friends who want to come and make the most of the huge amount of outdoor experience activities in Scotland's premier holiday destination.

There are endless mountains to climb, rivers to fish and some exquisite golf courses to enjoy. Whatever your interest, it can be met here.

There is a warm welcome at Seahorses with many thoughtful touches included such as the basket of welcome goodies and the essentials cupboard for those items you may have forgotten.

We stayed here in May 2015, a 3 generation family of 5. I shall not add to the comments here about badgers, pine martens, birds at the bird feeder, amazing views, wonderful appointment. All are confirmed. The thrill of nightly visit from badger...on the dot at 10.17pm...was more than we expected. The house is the last word in eco-efficiency and comfort. I shall add a few comments about the owners. They pulled out all the stops to ensure that a young baby and parents were accommodated and comfortable....they cannot be thanked enough. I (grandma, the cook), was also greatly appreciative of the high quality cooking utensils. This was the same for all other aspects of the house...eg the sheets, bed covers. Everything was high quality and first class, and of a standard not normally found in rental accommodation (nor, I should say, in my own home!) Maybe small things, given the glory of the natural world outside the house...but greatly appreciated when it was raining outside...and also when it wasn't!! Thank you so much for everything.

We arrived late at night to a very warm, cosy home, and were happy to go straight to sleep in the big welcoming beds. On opening the blinds in the morning, it was like opening a Christmas present! Through each window was the most spectacularly beautiful view you could imagine...the view now in the forefront of our minds on returning to a busy life of work, kids and bustle. This cottage was simply without fault. We could not have wished or asked for anything additional as even the smallest things were already thought of. Things like a rainy day box for the kids, filled with pastry cutters and cake mixes. Every finish and detail was well thought through and beautifully presented. This felt more like a home than a holiday cottage. The kids loved the walk in shower and we've never seen them voluntarily get washed so often! The downstairs bedroom and shower room would be ideal for a disabled guest. The highlight for us though was perhaps the uninvited visitors who came each night...the badgers and the pine marten! You couldn't wish for more...each night we all lay on our tummies with the patio doors open watching and listening to the badgers munching their way through the peanut butter sandwiches we had left them. What an experience to share with your kids! Fun for free! There was plenty to do and the people we met were so friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed the views and the drives and the nature and it was honestly quite hard to leave. We would definitely like to return and would highly recommend Seahorses to anyone. The owners have shared a beautiful home with their guests and have really put some thought and effort into making this a truly memorable holiday.

This is a beautiful house in a truly spectacular location. The light changes constantly with breathtaking views out to sea. We went in July - long long days and red sunsets. Lovely beaches nearby. Great seafood and beaches very near.

Over the past five years we have stayed in countless cottages around Scotland, none of them have views as stunning as Seahorses and very few can claim to be as well appointed. The local area has lots to offer for the adventurous and indeed for those like us that use the cottage as a base to tour the area from Durness to Dornoch – views everywhere. Thanks for a great week Tim and Sandra (Sheffield)

This is a lovely house in a stunning part of the world. For anyone keen on wildlife the possibilities just from the house alone are great. We were lucky enough to be able to stay for two weeks. We saw badgers just outside the patio windows every single night. On one night we saw three at the same time. On eight other nights we saw two at the same time. We had three pine marten sightings when the badgers were not around. You may need, however, to be prepared to stay up quite late as the mammals do not always come round that early. The badgers like badger food (from bird food web sites) but also the bird peanuts, cheese, dried fruit and (good entertainment) whole eggs which they break open with their claws. The pine martens will eat the same food. There was an otter sighting on the shore just below the house on the path down to the left. The peace and quiet was fantastic and the range of birds on the feeders and on the trees was good with lovely bird song, including a very noisy cuckoo. This holiday house is highly recommended by us for a break away from hustle and bustle in very comfortable surroundings.

The house has been terrific in every way. It's rare these days to get something that is better than advertised but you've done it. Thanks. July 2013

We (three couples) stayed 22-29 June and yes the views from every room are stunning, what a location, and the quality of the cottage, its fittings and equipment are outstanding. Drumbeg has a good local store and hotel, the latter offering very good food at friendly prices. The Assynt area is special and I doubt there is a better place to stay from which to enjoy it. Many thanks Neil and Margaret for a super week.

What an amazing place – the cottage is very comfortable with great showers and the views are magnificent. You can see such a long way and the colours of the sky were fantastic. There is a local badger and pine marten as well as lots of little birds visiting the feeding station just outside the kitchen window. We found plenty of walks and sandy beaches in the area. Fantastic cottage in a brilliant area, pity we only had a week.

Just spent 3 wonderful days and nights (from 24th March) at this stunning property. The house is fantastic, so warm with underfloor heating we did not use the wood fire. Saw loads of deer, seals, sheep of course and a golden eagle near the house. Kitchen has every thing you need to cook at home. Drumbeg stores has a wonderful selection of goodies considering it is the village shop. You could actually just spend time in the house or garden looking at the stunning views with the weather changing ever minute almost. We had snow, wind , rain and sun of course!! Thanks Neil and Margaret for building such a stunning house which we will be of course visiting again. Lorraine, Robert, Bill , Betty and Luke xxx

October 27th to November 3rd 2012. We wanted to find that extra special place to mark a special birthday. We found that elusive place here and it has exceeded all our expectations. The scenery on our doorstep here in Nedd is breathtaking. The mountains have been covered and bathed in sun, snow and rain showers. The big skies have been all colours and the rainbows have been so vivid. The sun shone all day on November 1st as we made our way to Scourie beach and beyond. The following morning, the magnificent Assynt mountains were white with snow. The autumn contrasts have been truly amazing. The house is beautiful – so comfortable, warm, furnished and equipped to the highest standard and a joy to live in. We have enjoyed the peace and solitude here, seen two eagles (we think) soaring over the hills opposite and loved every minute of our week in Seahorses. Thank you for allowing us to spend seven wonderful days in your fantastic house.

I stayed at Seahorses from 12th to 16th September and can confirm that this is an excellent choice of property if you are looking for something modern on the West Coast of Scotland. First and foremost: the views and setting of the property are absolutely stunning - the house looks out over Loch Nedd and out to Eddrachillies Bay. The views from every window are spectacular. Secondly, the house has recently been built and has 'all mod-cons' including luxurious bathrooms with powerful showers, something I had not experienced on the West Coast of Scotland before! Overall, a delight to stay at Seahorses and I will certainly return there and to the Assynt area soon.
