More information about Bearnock Lodge

Property information

Awarded Visit Scotland 5 stars, this grand home dates back to 1865 and was extended in the 1900s. Bearnock Lodge retains all its original features, including oak panelling and oak flooring in the drawing room, detailed plasterwork, stripped flooring, a bay window and a period fireplace in the dining room. There are period fireplaces in most rooms and internal doors that have been painstakingly stripped and restored.

The entrance vestibule gives access to the wood-panelled drawing room with a fireplace at either end and double doors lead to a sitting room with a bay window. The formal staircase leads to a large upper hall with feature decorative arches and an abundance of natural light from skylights.

This is the perfect location for that special celebration or holiday and a cook and housekeeper can be arranged.

Bearnock Lodge sits in 4 acres of land. There are formal gardens to the south and west of the property, and there is a former lawn-tennis court. The remainder of the grounds are well stocked with a variety of native trees and there is a walled garden and waterfall.

Close by is the Glenurquhart forest and mountain bike trails. About five miles to the west is Cannich, which leads to the Glen Affric National Nature Reserve where there are lovely walks through ancient Caledonian pinewoods and across open moorland, providing the opportunity to enjoy all sorts of wildlife and unspoilt splendour. Also close by at Corrimony are chambered cairns and an RSPB bird reserve.

Glen Urquhart itself stretches from the banks of Loch Ness westward towards the mountains of Glen Affric - a beautiful wooded glen with lochs and river that greatly rewards exploration on foot, cycle or horseback.

For those needing further accommodation, the Waterfall Apartment can be hired in addition.

We've just come back from a week at Bearnock Lodge, July 2017! It's an amazing house, refurbished to a very high standard, well-equipped and maintained. The housekeeper has been incredibly helpful, a real mine of local information. We've rented several large houses and this one scores very highly indeed. The location is amazing, so close to Glen Affric, but away from the busy Loch Ness areas.

I stayed here at weekend - 29th August - 1st September 2015 for my Sister's hen party with 15 other ladies and we could not have been happier, it certainly has the WOW factor, is beautifully decorated in keeping with the house and feels very warm and welcoming, with beautiful views out of the windows, we loved it and didn't want to leave. It is a superb place to stay for families/friends celebrations or just to relax, and enjoy, we absolutely loved it.

Just returned after a long weekend - how disappointed we were to leave!!!! It is AMAZING. Décor, location, surroundings are all stunning. 8 adults 4 kids did not see kids there had their own space as did the adults. Gathering together in the evening lighting the fire was the highlight of the day! It took a few days to remember where everything was and what was behind each door. Definitely worth a visit. Plenty of information also on tourist attractions. Drive to Inverness was stunning fantastic view of many Lochs, Glencoe, Fort William, then of course Loch Ness. Definitely will return one day.

After a very long overnight drive, we arrrived in Inverness, had breakfast but we were all exhausted. We headed to the lodge and although desperate to have a sleep the views were just too good to miss. As soon as we arrived at the lodge there was a lot of 'wow wow's' going on!! It was certainly a very beautiful house that catered very well for all of us. The children enjoyed themselves more than you can you imagine, we barely saw them they were just too busy enojoying the garden and the tennis table! Fantastic drawing room with a roaring fire place and enough room for everyone to sit with plenty to do. Lovely bedrooms, bathrooms and a fabulous kitchen. Thank you for a great stay.

We drove from West Sussex to Bearnock Lodge over-night stopping in Inverness for breakfast at around 07.30, the journey then to the Lodge was around 40 mins of jaw dropping picturesque views of the Loch through frosted white trees under blue skies. We then arrived at the Lodge!! What a place! My 8 year old God-son and Daughter disappeared for the rest of the day playing in the garden, the woods behind the house, playing table tennis in the garage and in the house - They loved it :) We were taking in the house and it's features, everything about it was grand, the dining room sat 20ish of us comfortably, the kitchen was well equipped for us all to sit, stand or perch. The sitting room was warm and cosy with a fire at each end and a Bar-billiards room off it with a bar to create a little hub of activity. Bedrooms are bedrooms and mine was lovely with an en-suite shower. The owners have done a great job with no expense spared and I would love to go back one day.

    WOW WOW WOW. Highly recommended.

A group of 20 of us have recently returned from spending a week at Bearnock Lodge for my husbands 50th birthday. What a fantastic place to stay! The house has been beautifully restored with all the mod cons but keeping the original features. There is plenty of space so you don't feel like you are on top of each other and all the bedrooms are excellent with extremely comfortable beds! The area is simply beautiful - especially in the autumn with all the trees changing colour. There was plenty to do for both adults and children - a fast boat rib ride on Loch Ness is a must! We ate out in some fabulous pubs and restaurants as well. All in all - a fabulous place and I can't recommend it enough!

We returned yesterday after spending a week at the lodge to celebrate belatedly our 25th wedding anniversary. We had family and friends with us and had the most wonderful time, the lodge looked lovely in the pictures on-line but have to say it was even better in the flesh. The layout is first class for entertaining larger groups of people and I just adored the space and as for the master bedroom and ensuite it was so lovely and we felt very special for the week, it was very hard to leave. The house is very well equipped and from a cook's point of view has everything that you need when entertaining. There are plenty spaces that different groups can use so that everyone can do their own thing and then come together for meals etc. I especially loved the evenings when the fires were on and the house just came alive when there were people in it. Bearnock Lodge is quite simply a little piece of heaven on earth and we will most certainly be back. I would have no hesitating in highly recommending this as a holiday destination for all age groups.

I spent my honeymoon in the Bearnock Lodge in 1995 - it was the most beautiful house I had ever seen in my life. When I heard that it was sold I had been very afraid, that something bad would happen to the house. When I saw, just a few moments ago, what has been done to the Lodge, I had tears of joy in my eyes. Who ever did this, did a wonderful job and kept the spirit of this wonderful house. Thank you so much for that. And I wish everyone who visits this house a time as wonderful as mine has been. I will never forget it and hope, that I can return one day.

We have just returned from a fabulous week in a beautiful house in lovely surroundings. A group of family and friends filled the house and the Waterfall Apartment, ranging in age from 2 to 82 years. There was plenty of space for everyone to enjoy and great to come together for an evening meal and catch up with the various activities enjoyed throughout the day. For some of our party this was an introduction to the Highlands. Comment at end of week - 'When are we coming back ?' Surely there can be no higher praise than that ! We are very happy to recommend this superb home to others.
  • Yvonne Gerrard
What a brilliant house. As a group of about 20 we have been meeting up in Scotland at Easter for the last 28 years and can honest say this was an exceptional house. It has recently been renovated and the standard of the renovation has been sympatric to the house while the fixtures and fittings installed have been of an extremely high standard. The house has a real wow factor especially the bathrooms “sheer luxury” as they say. On a more practical note the heating system was very efficient which meant the house was lovely and warm there was lashings of hot water. The layout of the house allowed us to easily socialise as a large group or hide away as the fancy took us. Plenty of washing and drying facilities for the days when you get back wet & mucky. The house is in a lovely setting with lots to do in the area. This meant there were lots for the entire group to do not just the serious walkers. The kids loved the Wi Fi connection (so did some of the adults). We had a wonderful stay in a lovely house and one we would certainly come back too.

We have just returned from the most wonderful few days in this amazing house and I cannot praise the place highly enough!!! The house, gardens and views are beautiful beyond words, I still can’t get over the fact that there’s a waterfall in the garden! The house itself has been lovingly and elegantly restored. It’s very high spec and has all the necessary mod cons yet still retains its traditional Scottish charm and stunning original features. Although it is a very grand house it still feels really cosy and homely, especially when sitting in front of one of the gorgeous open fires with a nice glass of wine and a good book! It’s very close to Loch Ness (highly recommend the boat trip), shops, lovely restaurants and the very friendly (albeit quirky) local pub!:-) We cannot express what an amazingly special place this is and we shall most definitely be booking a return trip next year!
  • Laura Upson
Everybody should spend a week in a luxurious house like this at least once in their lives! It was everything we had hoped for and more. The views of the mountains and forests were almost as stunning as the interior of this splendid house. Despite having easy access to Loch Ness, a Tesco extra and even an airport, it felt as if we had retreated from the rat race and gone back in time. The only sounds were the waterfall and an occasional cow mooing! Thank you for a very special week where ALL the family were together under one roof feeling as if we'd won the lottery!
