More information about Carsaig House

Property information

Carsaig House occupies a most magical and dramatic position on the southern coast of the Isle of Mull, and enjoys far-reaching views over the sea towards the islands of Colonsay, Jura and Islay. Built in 1850 in the Georgian style, the house is complemented by a most attractive castellated walled garden to the rear. To the front the land falls away down a sloping field to the beach below, an easy walk.

It is hard to overstate the quality and charm of the interior design of this luxurious house. No expense has been spared on the refurbishment of each room in its own individual way, and the ambience is one of a relaxing and peaceful but warm and welcoming family home. From the moment you step over the threshold you are immediately aware that you have entered a very special place. Over your holiday, Carsaig will work its magic and bid you farewell rested, relaxed and wondering how quickly you can return!

All bedrooms, from the main master bedroom to the smaller top floor bedrooms, are high quality, appealing in their own way, and all enjoy either sea or garden views - some have both! The 'sunken' bedroom is particularly atmospheric with its two low windows and sea views. Even the two attic bedrooms are well appointed, light and comfortable and benefit from views of the sea and the walled garden.

Carsaig House has been the location for films including "I Know Where I'm Going", and the famous red telephone box used by Catherine Zeta Jones in 'Entrapment', with a dramatic waterfall by its side, is a short drive from the house.

The house is ideally located for visiting the sacred Isle of Iona and the Ross of Mull, with its red granite hills and fascinating coastline. Just north of the house the road takes a dramatic route over the hills to where the sea eagles live. There is a bird hide dedicated to watching for these magnificent and rare birds of prey.

This perfect house is a dream of a holiday home destined to become a favourite with our regular Large Holiday House customers and new ones alike.

We recommend shopping in Oban before arrival as the shops in Tobermory and Salen are some distance from the house.

Stayed here in May, with three generations, to celebrate my 60th birthday. The accommodation was wonderful, masses of space, comfortable rooms, hot water endless. Blown away by the garden, the views and location ...but not physically by the weather, which was actually perfect for the week. Do bring your midge spray though, and remember to close the windows if the lights are on! James and Sandra helped with every little enquiry ...thanks ...and I would recommend picking some dishes up from the Lochbuie Larder, although the huge, well-equipped kitchen in the house makes cooking a pleasure. Thanks - a very special trip.

Carsaig House was wonderful and we had good weather the whole week. We (parents) were here with three teenage children and 4 seniors (grand-parents and great-aunt and great uncle). The location is simply breath-taking. The kitchen is outstanding which is excellent given the extent to which we are all 'foodies'. Either the owner or previous tenants had left plenty of provisions (like flour, sugar, spices, herbs and baking soda), which was very much appreciated. There was an intermittent mobile signal from the house (20% of the time), so I was glad to have a land-line which worked. We would definitely recommend Carsaig House as a fabulous family retreat and you can depend on the house feeling very much like a 'home'.
