The end of this peninsula, Mull of Kintyre, from which Ireland can be seen, is within easy reach by car.

Machrihanish beach, located on the westerly side, is a popular choice for wind surfers, and the adjacent golf course attracts professional players from all over the world because of its challenging elements and beautiful scenery.

Perhaps you've experienced some of it - a walk along Westport beach as the Atlantic surf crashes onto the shore; scallops, maybe, eaten at the water's edge; the sun setting over Jura; otter spotting; a blustery picnic at the ruined thirteenth-century chapel that marks the arrival point of St Columba prior to his trip to Iona. Kirkland House was a fantastic venue for our family new year holiday. The house was comfortable and warm, and spacious enough for 14 people to feel they had their own space. We were particularly impressed with how the dining room had been designed to allow such a large number of people to eat together. The kitchen was really well equipped with 2 ovens, 2 dishwashers, 2 fridges and 2 freezers which made catering for large numbers much easier than it has been in some other houses we have rented. In fact, we enjoyed our stay so much we've booked again for next year!

Kirkland House was first class accommodation, well furnished and very well equipped. Our welcome and introduction by Zoe the housekeeper and the local food pack were a good start ... as was the flexibility to check in early and leave late as no one was booked in immediately before or after us. We’d certainly use Kirkland again. The LHH website / booking process etc was fine, no problems at all, and we’d certainly use LHH to look at other locations in future.

A great house in a beautiful part of Scotland. The house is very comfortable and extremely well equipped - the kitchen had every appliance you could possibly need. Beds lovely and comfy and plenty space for our group of 12. Would thoroughly recommend.
  • Sandy Fitzpatrick
A place I recommend, would have all for myself and really do relax when in residence. A lovely spot to get away from it all. The Mull of Kintyre is a great place to explore, Skipness for lunch and walks, Ghigha for good beaches, cycling and good food too. The house is lovely; bags of space for families of all ages. Safe play areas and plenty to do without even jumping in the car! A must for big parties to have fun.

Stayed here in October 2013 with family and friends. What a lovely house! As well as being excellently furnished and equipped to a very high standard (great kitchen), even though storms lashed outside the house was never less than warm throughout. This is contrast to some large houses where owners seem to expect guests to be away all day and set the heating accordingly. The village of Clachan is pretty much out of the way and very quiet, but good walking can be had from the house, either along the shoreline or "inland" to forest and moorland walking including sections on the Kintyre Way. Although there are no shops in the village, the filling station has a well-stocked shop and even a post office. Campbeltown is around 40 mins away; the Springbank Distillery Tour is a must. As well at the basic £6 tour (incl. dram plus a miniature), for an extra £15 I and a couple of mates had what was billed as a further six tastings but actually tuned into nine. We were very content as we were driven back! Tarbet is around half as far away and is a picturesque gem, ideal as there are good shops as well as a hidden-away fishmonger who is well-worth the sleuthing it takes to find him. Kirkland House is well-worth the journey; our party couldn't recommend it more highly.

We realised after we'd left that we forgot to complete the Visitors book, but we had all had a fantastic week thank-you very much. The weather definitely helped as we had four days on the beach. We all also agreed that it was one of the best holiday houses we had stayed in. The house itself is a lovely place, the proportions of the rooms are great and it is in a lovely setting and furnished to a very high standard. The kitchen was very well equipped and as many of the previous guests have commented, the beds were exceptionally comfortable! The children loved the garden and were out there every hour they could be. We would love to return one day and will definitely recommend it to any large parties we know looking for a lovely place to stay.
  • Audrey Blincow
My extended family recently returned from a week in Kirkland house, and we all agreed what a wonderful place to enjoy quality time together. The beds were superbly comfortable and the very well equipped kitchen made our lives so much easier with 2 dishwashers and 2 cookers along with plenty of crockery, pots pans, cutlery etc. The surrounding area has plenty to offer and although the weather for the first part of the week was not that great it did not prevent us enjoying our stay. Our trip to Gigha was memorable and such a worthwhile day with us all glowing on our return. We would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to spend some comfortable time with family and friends who like a really good place.
  • Sarah and Sandy Fitzpatrick
Stayed in lots of rented houses and this is by far the best. A fabulous well equipped house, deluxe bedrooms with amazingly comfy beds, lots of space inside and out and a wonderful garden with lots for the children to do. What more could we ask for!? A perfect base to explore the stunning surrounding area. We had a fantastic time at Kirkland House and didn't want to leave! Would really recommend this gorgeous holiday house to anyone. Hope to return!

Another fantastic stay at Kirkland. Enough room for adults and children to all do their own thing, great garden too, incredibly comfortable beds, endless hot water, and lots to do locally. Fresh fish and lobsters available to buy from the fishermen by the Gigha ferry. Fantastic - thank you!
  • Fergus and Katrina Macpherson
Well done the owners! We had a tremendous week at Kirkland House. The place is imaculate, clearly having been renovated very recently. A good lawn at the front on which my boys played football, and which was perfect for evening barbeques. The burn at the end of the garden has a gentle flow, and a path follows it to the sea, an easy 15 minute walk away. We were blessed with fine weather, which I know makes a huge difference. But I would most definitely stay there again. Thanks very much. Fergus and Katrina Macpherson

Just to say that we had a fantastic time at Kirkland house this last week. Everything we could have wanted was there and we made use of every minute, whether it be a 10 mile hike in the snow on the Kintyre Way or endless games of table tennis and Boggle! The house is enormously comfortable and all three families are keen to return! We had some glorious times on the beach playing cricket and football. Thank you very much, plus warm thanks to Zoe the housekeeper who looked after us extremely well.
  • Jane Castle
We have stayed at Kirkland House two summers running. The whole family love it there - it is a gem of a house in a stunning part of the country. Kirkland is seriously comfortable and welcoming, especially the beds. The kitchen is well equipped and appears to lack nothing and we loved slouching in the sitting rooms, playing games and watching videos with the children after a hard day on the beach. The local area is beautiful. We loved exploring the coast and taking the ferry to nearby Gigha for a beach bbq - often seeing few other people. The sea might be refreshing but it is absolutely clear and the beaches are fabulously clean and white.
  • Seonaid Bradford
What a perfect "get away from it all" house. Fantastic location for exploring Argyllshire and the West coast. A well equipped and comfortable house with a great layout which copes well with a group of friends or extended family. Perfect for wandering down to the beach for lazy family days. Oh and the beds are amazingly comfy, a different league to most rental properties. Would highly recommend.
  • Harry Taylor
I have rented many houses for holiday lets, and yours was easily the best equipped and most comfortable that I have stayed in. My weekend's shooting with friends was fantastic, with amazing scenery - I will be back! P.s refreshing to be in a house with effective heating and 2 dishwashers!!
  • clive pitt
We rented your house in Clachan last week and had a fantastic time. The house was extremely comfortable and enabled us to have a very relaxing and sociable familly gathering. Having rented many houses over the years this has to be one of the most comfortable and best equiped we have come across. You should be proud of what you have created and we will certainly recommed it to friends. Although Kintyre is a remote place there was plenty to do and we particularly enjoyed the following: Inverary Jail Tour Westport Beach The Springbank Distillery tour - great value with no charge for the children, a free taste and a miniature per person! Very friendly and informed staff. The Seafood Cabin and the coast walks Machrihanish Wildlife observatory -
